If Ozzie continues to push starters deep into games because he has no confidence in the bullpen, our staff will suffer devastating injuries. Buehrle's effecient pitch counts may allow him to endure 8 innings of work, but pushing Contreras and Garcia near 115 pitchers every start will initiate trouble. If you combine contreras and loaiza's innings pitched with the sox this year they would be 19th. Then if you combine garcia's and schoeneweis's innings pitched this year for the sox they would rank 14th. No team has more than two pitchers within the top 20 of innings pitched and we have 4. Oakland is fisrt with 1030IP, Boston is third with 1007.1IP. The 4 teams who finished with more wins from their starting staff all had better overall W/L records than the Sox and all but Oakland made the Playoffs.
