elrockinMT
McCarver questioned LaRussa tonight for walking the number 8 hitter, runners on 1st and 3rd and 2 outs. Of course, Lima struck out meekly. To me, LaRussa chose the best option and I disagreed with McCarver at the time. Seemed like a no brainer to me. Of course, McCarver said "If Lima gets a hit here, the game is out of reach" ... or something to that effect. However if Brent Mayne has jerked on out, of bounced one off the fence, then it would have been the same thing. I'll talk my chances with Lima every time in that situation. I forgot that one YASNY. I was thinking the same thing when McCarver was jacking his jaws about the move. My thoughts were that Laruusa was making the smart move by pitching to Lima, the pitcher who had something like 9 hits in 62 AB's with 2 RBI's for the season. It was a prudent baseball move. But, Tim M shows again why he isn't a manager or coach. I forgot also about the annoying banter from those characters on ESPN BBTN. Reynolds and Dibble get me going with their stuff. SoIL
McCarver - Talks down to the audience and always tries to prove he's so much smarter than you. Berman - Pompous, obnoxious, concieted, loud mouth. Chimp - Way to much yelling. Most "Sports Center" anchors - Too much attitude, not enough reporting. Al Habrowski (sp) - Mini Berman. Old Socks
You guys can say what you want (negatively) about Tim McCarver, but I will always remember him and admire him for the way he stood up to Dion Sanders on National TV (live) and challenged him lto fight right then and there, and Neon Dion slinked away. redandwhite
Tim McCarver is a terrible announcer, and he definitly gets my vote, but his sidekick Joe Buck isn't much better considering his Yankee bias is enough to put anybody on suicide watch. f*** You Tim McCarver, f*** You Joe Buck. Lefty Of Love
Hi everyone Been watching this message board, thought I would jump in. On the other end of the spectrum of your discussion on sports announers, I suggest that the guy that does Blackhawks games - Pat Foley - is exceptional. I am dissapointed in the lockout in the NHL this season more because I am going to miss Pat Foley rather than the atrocious Blackhawks. I completely agree with you about Pat - he is excellent, even when given the unenviable job of making a 7-1 blowout interesting for the listener. I wonder what his situation is with this lockout - is he getting paid? If not, how would he make extra money this winter? There aren't exactly any other leagues he could broadcast for. I'm sure he's not starving, but I'd think that an extended lockout would hurt guys like him, who don't really crossover to do other sports. Lefty Of Love
Not this year anyway....I'm not sure even Major League Baseball is as dumb as the NHL and its players. They're taking an already unpopular sport and telling the few remaining fans f*** you. The Blackhawks blew, but Pat Foley is the best in the biz. KevHead0881
I actually like Joe Buck, but what do I know? The worst announcer in my book (at least for baseball) is that dude who calls the Seattle Mariner games. He is friggin abnoxious and he apparently doesn't think people can hear him during the broadcasts. I heard a broadcast of his on the Season Ticket plan, and I felt like I was being yelled at for 9 innings. And while I don't think he's the worst, DJ is pretty bad, with his constant reminders. Blah! Tim McCarver is pretty crappy as well. It seems like he just tries to be the center of the action. Even yesterday, he was ragging on Tommy Lasorda for getting in Milton Bradley's face in the dougout before the game. Just call the friggin game for christ sake. CubKilla
McCarver is garbage but he did have the best baseball quote of the year in regards to ShamME. After ShamME K'd 4 times in a game against the Mets down-the-stretch, he meekly grounded into an inning-ending 6-4-3 DP. McCarver joked afterwards, "Where's the strike out when you need it?" Joe Morgan is the worst though. He was really sucking up to Sosa earlier in the season during and ESPN Sunday Night game against St. Louis. Talked about Sosa's defense as "another facet of Sammy's game that people pay little or no attention too." Called Sammy one of the, "..... classiest players in the game" during this years HR Derby and said Sammy doesn't have to participate in the HR Derby but that he does it, "..... for the fans. Sammy's..... all about the fans." Made me wanna :puke
yankthis
I don't find any particular announcer annoying but one thing that does annoy me is when they use phrases that pander to the illiterate. "Walk-off home run" instead of "Game-winning home run". Reminds me of those song titles back in the 80's with titles like "I Would Die 4 U" and such. Sure most sports fans aren't exactly rocket scientists, but most of us have made it past the third grade at least.
CanOfCorn
The TV guys for the Astros aren't bad, but they are a big time snooze. Although radio for the Astros, Milo Hamilton and Alan Ashby...excellent. I love Milo from my childhood days of him doing Bulls games, and yes, I admit it, him with Vince Lloyd and Joe Boudreau doing Cubs games...my dad is a baseball fan, not really for any one team. Rowand44
To me the most annoying announcer is Walton, however I hate Brantley and Berman more then any other announcers, they just piss me off more then annoy me.

If you take two players of similar talents, one white and the other black, Morgan will express a preference for the black player every time. There is one announcer I hate that is considered a legend. That would be Vin Scully. That guy bores me to tears.
DBAHO
Bill Walton would be up there for mine, and the Seattle Mariners guy, and the Los Angeles broadcaster, I just can't stand 1 guy commentating by himself at a baseball game. I don't mind Joe Buck, but I prefer him commentating football games rather than baseball games. Can't stand McCarver much either, although I haven't heard too many other special comments guys for baseball games.

DBAHO
That would be the previously mentioned Vin Scully. I remember catchin only bout 2 or 3 of the Dodgers' games this season, but how boring that guy was as a commentator. He was talkin bout a 5 year girl in the crowd for about 10 minutes at one point. Rex Hudler
I could listen to Vin Scully any day. He is one of the all-time greats. It really surprises me that you don't like him Yas. He has one of the best, most soothing voices.

Wait a minute - is this supposed to be in green. It was Fisk who stood up to Deon Sanders. After Sanders popped up and just stood in the box, Fisk said run the f***ing ball out you piece of s***. You had to supply the cuss words from the quotes in the paper, but there is absolutely no doubt, it was Fisk.
