I'll love watching this situation over the summer, when no-one wants to sign Maggs because of the insane contract demands Boras will put on his head.

plus he cant walk,he has had secret surgeries, changed agents, this is alot of trouble to get him some money. Something is wrong with him, and this is his last gasp, have fun on the DL for the next 2 years, I never thought maggs would be the next griffey

His greed turned into a HUGE blessing in disguise for the Sox.  Wheter than attack his character...I'm questioning whether or not he will ever produce baseball stats like he did in the past.  I don't think he will.  Meet the new Grant Hill.

Exactly how will the Sox benefit by losing Mags? By having more money to sign Beltran? Pavano? Pedro?

Don't hold your breath.

We will get a nice draft choice for him, that will become our "next great prospect", ala Borchard.

I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong.. but I think it's better off in the sense that we didn't (or likely won't) end up paying a crazy amount of money to a player that might never be back to 100%. No one is happy about losing Maggs. Well... except you as it gives you something else to b**** about.

I swear you remind me so much of my friend Henry... :crying

With the way Maggs has acted in the last year, I am happy he will be gone. We don't need a liar and a cheat on this team. Maybe him and Sammy can team up in NY or something...

Its not quantum physics. I think even you can understand. We had money to spend...lots of it...Maggs didn't get it...NOW, that money can be spent on different players, a GOOD player, at the same talent level of Maggs, a star...or multiple players. Funny how that works huh?

You said that money could be spent on nameless players, it's already been spent.  See edit.

Would Kenny have taken on those salaries if he had intentions of re-signing Mags? Would there have been enough money to go around? Or, were those guys aquired because that cash wasn't tied up in Mags' ludicrious contract offer?

This is what I'm talking about. You made it seem like the money is still on the table and now we should decide where to spend it. I'm just saying those resources are gone if you were implying that we still have $14 mil to dish.

If Maggs hadn't gotten hurt.. the $ to re-sign him would have been there. Even still, there is an offer on the table.. and I think the Sox are crazy for it personally.

I'm guessing if the Sox made a $12 million profit to payroll in '03.. that they made at least that much in '04. There's money there.. it'll be spent.

Said he was fine, getting better, etc.. . Refused to be checked out by the Sox MD's... then went over seas to have more surgery.

Even went as far as to say that he was practicing again and was working out, when in fact he had just had surgery only days before. He said he his knee was healing just fine. He called KW a liar for saying that his knee wasn't healing.

We all know how that turned out.

Then how do you respond to Steff's claim that even if Mags was healthy we would still have money available to resign him, EVER AFTER, we aquired Jurassic, Jose, and Freddy? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

If Maggs was going to be OK Carl never would have been brought it, and that's a "rumor" I believe 1500000% in. Garcia $$ was carryover from '03. Jose was in the budget from '03 (not the carryover.. but in the plan).

And guys.. please don't argue over this crap. It's October... lot's of time.

I don't believe we would be able to sign him if he was healthy. Contreras, garcia, and everret are gonna be making 19 million or so next year, which is five million more than maggs made this year. If the sox spend 14 million this year it will shock the s*** right out of me.
