EvilJester99
I would have to bet that Houston is going to do everything they can to resign Beltran but I would bet the Yankmees will have the best chance if it comes down to strictly money alone..... Cheat brought up some good points. The Yankees might actually not have the money to sign Belt. I get the feeling the Dodgers could be a destination. Both with their lack of offense, and the Milton Bradley issues.
EvilJester99
Hell the Yanks of all teams don't seem to care how high their payroll is as long as they are winning. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out though. You can bet the teams will be lining up and I would highly doubt the Sox even have a snowballs chance in hell to sign him. greasywheels121
I'd love him, but there's no way in hell we can afford the guy after this postseason he's having. However...Beltran
WilliamTell
He is on an amazing roll right now. He knows it's a contract year so I'm sure he'll be picking up some extra cash after this postseason.
Jordan4life_2007
I'll be happy as long as the Cubs don't get him.
The Critic
Goddamnit, who cares if it's not gonna happen? What's the point of looking forward to the offseason if we can't speculate and throw out possibilities? There's nothing wrong with speculating if you want to, I personally don't want to waste my time thinking about something that has zero chance of happening. The way Beltran's playing in the postseason, on top of his overall talent and youth, guarantees that SOMEONE will outbid the Sox if they choose to make an offer at all. Not gonna rant about it, but I will state my opinion even if it's not "playing along". That's the nice thing about message boards, all opinions carry the same weight - which is to say, very little weight.
WilliamTell
Yeah aslong as the Cubs or no one in our division gets Beltran I'll be fine.
Dignan
Beltran has said that he will take less to sign w/ a contender, so I don't see the Sox having a realistic shot at him. Besides, if they're gonna trade away konerko or lee to sign him, it wouldn't improve the team by much. Instead, I would like to see them trade C. Lee for Lowell (8.5 mil), then sign Pavano (around 10mil/yr). This should fall within their budget constraints. What should they do w/ Crede? His stock has really fallen, but the Sox should still be able to get a serviceable LF'er or relief pitcher in return. Sox1422
I'm sure JR will offer Beltran a 4 year 35 million dollar contract with 30 million deffered until 2030. If he doesn't accept it, well at least they tried. :puke

Dick Allen
Beltran is a great player, he would probably be the best all around player the White Sox have had in the modern era if he signed. There has been a lot of talk that the Sox might be able to offer him a very competitve contract. If he's healthy he's a gold glove and minimum 30/30 guy. He can hit in the 2 spot. The Sox then unload CLee for pitching. You have improved your offense, you have improved your defense, although Carlos did fine in LF, he is not comparible to Beltran defensively, and you upgrade the pitching staff. As to finding room for Sweeney and Anderson. A lot of things happen down the line, dissappointing performances, injuries etc. If Rowand continues his steep rise, and Beltran plays up to his potential, maybe one of the kids moves to first, or to DH, for a while. I know its a longshot, but nobody thought the Sox would get David Wells, Albert Belle, Bartolo Colon...............................
greg775
I tip my cap to critic and aboz who realize we have zero chance of getting Beltran. He's a Yankee folks. There's no way we'll sign him. With Beltran going to the Yanks, however, that means somebody else is gonna get Maggs.

Mets because they are extremely stupid with money and the giants because they could use protection for bonds.
