Credit Where It's Due

Recommended Posts

Kudos to the Boston American League Ballclub for forcing Game 7.

Gutsy performance by Schilling - Lieber, too, for that matter, but Jon had the one bad 1/3 of an inning ( he had gotten the first 2 guys out before the 4-spot ).

While too many of their fans are insufferable martyrs, the team itself if hanging in there and playing HARD.

I did see that some Boston fan had stolen Dusty Baylor's "Why Not US?" slogan for a poster.....I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.... :D

It is nice to see the noose tightening around the Spankees' necks - we'll see if those "ghosts" that Jeter talks about will show up at Spankee Stadium tonight. If they do, maybe they can swing the bat for him - isn't he supposed to be this "big-game player"? Batting under .200 with a couple of errors in the ALCS ain't exactly CLUTCH.

I'll be out of town until Friday, but in my absence I say.... GO GO NO ONE!!!!

Two comments from last night's game:

One - Critic is right, you have to give those guys credit to even force game 6, let alone 7.

Two - I thought it was REDICULOUS that they had to have police in riot gear out on the field. Kudos for the umprire crew FOR GETTING IT RIGHT. :fyou Arod. What a dumbass. But I guess you have to try sneaky s*** like that when the wheels are falling off, eh?

I agree you have to give them credit because after falling down 3 - 0 it would have been very easy for them to roll over and die and they didn't. I commend them for that. One comment about the fans though, I didn't see any of the Yankee fans praying or crossing their fingers even as they were losing last night. I'm just saying here. Although it was total BS with them throwing s*** on the field and all that. Hell imagine how Moronotti would have if that were the Sox instead....Anyway great job by Boston.

I give all the credit in the world to Curt Schilling.  To pitch like he did for 100 pitches on a bum push off ankle is incredible.  That is just pure guts, and maybe a good pain shot ;) But definate props to Schil :notworthy

Yep, very gutsy. Especially after the comments he made about New Yorkers AND he blew game 1. He almost HAD to win last night, or go out as a big mouth clown.

And a couple more things:

1. Why the hell didn't the Spankees try bunting at all to make Schilling field the ball? He'd have to push off that ankle on the wet grass and maybe he tweaks it, and it's a whole different situation. where's that HEADY, WISE VETERAN LEADER Derek Jeter when they need him?

2. I had to turn my radio off this morning because I was afraid that if I left it on for one more minute, Mike Greenberg's jizz was gonna start oozing out of my speakers. He was talking like this game tonight is the single most important EVENT ( not just sporting event ) in the history of mankind. Damn, GET OFF IT, Greenberg! :banghead

Agree. I switched also.

Staying with the theme of the thread, this is what Tim McCarver himself kept saying.

They were calling it a good play on the part of A Rod last night because if the call goes his way, it's huge. BUT, if he doesn't interfere, sure he's an easy out but Jeter gets to second on the play.

What do you guys think?

Someone posted on the other thread an explanation. Something like once the ball is interfered with, the runner is out, and everyone else returns to where they were.

I understand the call, I'm asking if what A Rod did, which was clearly intentional, was a good idea on his part.

By they way, which thread is that?

Hell the only reason they didn't was because they called out the SWAT team.  The security was insane.

Yea...I'm not quite sure why they sent out quite THAT MANY Police officers...

But if you've been to New York in the past few years...EVERYWHERE you go is like that.

Its a different style of life living with all that security around you at all times

Its a split second decesion. I totally understand making it. Your first instinct is to avoid contact. So that option leaves almost right away (unless you are albert belle), I could see trying to smack the ball loose, especially since the rule against it is pretty obscure.

The rule is clear and if he had done a better acting job, he might have gotten away with it. He should have had his arms flailing as he reached and fell toward the bag. Then he could have said his momentum carried him into Arroyo. Instead, he took a slap at his glove, got called out and Jeter had to stay at 1st, not too smart. Oh well, like you said it's a split second decision.

I believe the umpires are due some credit as well. So often one will blow a single call in the playoffs and be forever remember for it. Rarely are umpires ever noticed when they get things right. There were two huge calls reversed last night that the umpiring crew got right and I just want to say they did a heck of a job. Also takes some balls to reverse two calls against the Yankees in the Bronx like that.

Speaking of Moranatti he was felching the Spankees really good after they went up 3-0. Itd be cool of the BoSox won the series for no other reason than just to make this jackass look stupid again.

Good point, even though the replays would have shown them to be correct, it took balls to do what they did.

There is a section on intentional interference written in the "New York Yankee Employee Handbook". Reggie Jackson got away with it back in one of the late '70's Series. So ARod did exactly what was expected of him, but King George forgot to replace napkins with Benjamins on the snack tray for the umpires locker room.
