witesoxfan
I don't know how you can say that bringing in lofton was a mistake. It's not like we brought in a career .253 hitter with a career .307 obp to lead-off for us. We brought in a proven player that still had gas left in the tank. It only became a mistake when he pulled his hamstring and his bat went to hell. When he was getting on base and stealing bases in April, the Sox were one of the best teams in the league with a rotation of Buehrle-Ritchie-Garland-Wright-Rauch/Stewart/Porzio/whoever. Think it is completely coincidental that when we lost both Durham and Lofton(and for that matter, Jimenez to an extent too), the offense went to hell and became streakier then hell? Leadoff hitters play the biggest role on the team, and if they aren't getting on base consistently, they aren't doing their job and the offense won't produce enough. CWSGuy406
Evidence of our lack of difference makers: Top win shares for Sox CLee # 17 in AL. Poorme, just a small complaint - on the website that I find WinShares, I have Lee ranked 10th in the AL (tied with four others, IIRC)... Rooftop Shots
The sox need at least one "difference maker" for the top of the lineup [and a solid #2 hitter]. Yet this guy should be able to steal bases, get on base, bunt and hit for avg. I think this is their number one priority and will be addressed via trade. Sorry, can't remember where I read it, whether on another thread or in the paper, but I remember hearing that for the leadoff spot in question, and along with the ties that Ozzie has with Florida, that he has an interest in Juan Pierre. Florida supposedly has a clone of him in the minors waiting to come up. A lot of speculation .....of course, but then again....it sure is nice to at least do some hoping! Isn't that why most of the postings are up in the off season??? Just curious, does anybody know if Carl Crawford from TB is signed for next year? ( If these issues were already posted earlier, my apologies. Computer was down for 2 1/2 months. Haven't been here in a while!!!)
greg775
I thought Lofton sucked with us. I don't remember a hammy being a problem, but I do believe you cause you follow it closer than I do. Lofton I thought at the time was abysmal. GoodAsGould
a trade for pierre and then FA signings of polanco and russ ortiz is realistic i think and could push our team over the top...assuming konerko is part of the pierre deal CF Pierre 2B Polanco DH Frank Thomas LF Carlos Lee RF Aaron Rowand 1B Ross Gload 3B Joe Crede SS Juan Uribe C Davis/Burke the lineup can potentially have .300 hitters from 1-6 and if crede has truly fixed his swing and uribe's season wasnt a fluke id take that lineup anyday of the week. as for the bullpen i think it can be solid with the additions of felix diaz and or munoz/baj... especially since cotts got a decent year done the Starting rotation would be really solid in 1. Garcia 2. Buehrle 3. Russ Ortiz 4. Jose Contreras 5. Jon Garland im not advocationg signing russ ortiz im just going with likely scenerios... with pierre and polanco and ortiz being difference makers and not costing an arm and a leg. According to the marlins pierre is going no where. People have to understand he is cheap considering he is in the top three lead-off hitters in all of baseball. Also thomas is no longer a .300 hitter and i think you are forgetting about everett.

TLAK
what would you trade for pierre that would make sense to the Marlins???? And I hope the answer is not Konerko What would you think about Ryan Freel instead of Pierre. I'm not saying he is as good but he looks like he can lead off and steal bases. He plays everywhere and Cincy is so loaded with position guys coming up I don't think he's in their long term mix. I speculate you could get him for the 14th or 15th pitcher on your staff or about what they gave up for Temo. This guy can do a lot more then Temo. greg775
Good points qwerty but I look at the bottom line. 41 hrs equal second best in league. I don't care where he's whacking 'em. I want Paulie.
