CWSOX45
According to this article from the Daily Southtown, the White Sox are looking to acquire Randy Johnson AGAIN. It's a pretty good read, I guess that RJ actually said he wouldn't mind coming to Chicago to play for the Sox. The article also says that Kenny will pursue another #1 if he can't get Johnson. http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/241sd7.htm CWSOX45
The Beast
But the Sox won't be alone in pursuing Johnson. The New York Yankees also plan to try to get the veteran southpaw, after failing to do so in July. This is key, the New York Yankees are after him. Although if we could unload Contreras in the deal, that'd be sweet for salary movement. Rotation could be like: Garcia, Johnson, Buehrle, Contreras, Garland
Hatchetman
"I think we need to get another guy or someone has to grow into that set-up role that occasionally closes, for us to be good down there," Williams said. In other words, the Sox want a Tom Gordon-type who can set up and close.
CWSOX45
If we can get Johnson, another solid arm for the pen, and Omar Vizquel, I'd say that's a pretty damn good off-season right there. It's nice to know that Kenny has a plan, hopefully he can carry it out. CWSOX45
Texsox
With the exception of John Rocker, every player says nice things about any city that will have him. When the ink dries, be confident.

He is old and is a big waste of money, I would rather spend it on some younger guys and other position players than waste money on this guy... After watching Adkins and Cotts for a season, I think both of those guys are more than capable of stepping up into those spots. They both had quality seasons. Both obviously went through dead arms in Sept, but if we don't end up signing more pen arms, it wouldn't upset me nearly as much as other positions. southsider2k5
:puke :puke :puke :puke Im sure that will make Butter happy, but if are big move this season is getting Eric Milton, im going to be one pist off dude. Eric Milton= James Baldwin... Plenty of moxie, plenty of luck, plenty of pay, not much in the way of results.

Rotation could be like: Garcia, Johnson, Buehrle, Contreras, Garland Hey Ross, if they were dealing Contreras, you mentioned he'd be a good salary dump, then he wouldn't be part of the rotation. They'd probably opt to go with a youngster or wait on the market and find a cheap 5th. However, I think any deal with the Dbacks involving the unit involves Carlos Lee and at least one of the Sox top prospects, plus a good prospect. I don't want to give up Brandon McCarthy, but you can bet thats who the Dbacks would want. I'd think they would want him over Sweeney/Anderson but thats just me. If its Lee, one of Diaz and all them, then I could see the deal making sense. Or of course if they were willing to accept Lee, Contreras, and a prospect, but I don't see that happening. A package of Garland and Lee could be something the Dbacks would look at heavily.
Punch and Judy Garland
Landing Johnson would be very exciting. Plus, he's only got one year elft so we would have payroll felxibility after 05 to pursue a tim Hudson or Roy oswalt

CubKilla
Randy Johnson..... Carl Pavano..... or any other top tier SP will not be a member of the 2005 White Sox campaign. A Russ Ortiz or Eric Milton is more realistic..... especially Ortiz..... who KW has had his eye on for sometime now.
EvilJester99
What exactly are the Yankess going to give up to get him? They didnt have enough at the deadline, and I dont think they have enough now. There was a piece of ProSportsDaily.com saying the Yanks are possibly going to deal Vazquez, their top catching prospect Navarro and a pick for Randy Johnson. FWIW. http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/32411.htm

chisox05
I wouldnt think we would have to give up that much for johnson considering his hefty 16 million contract. Maybe just trading garland and borchard- something like that.

Better not to get our hopes up too high because with the big ticket stars it'll be more of the same old song. "We tried but the price was too high" A freekin candy bar is too expensive for that cheapskate.

It really makes a site look quite amatuerish to make a basic mistake like that.

I know that we can beat the Yankees for Randy Johnson, the question is how much will we have to give up? CWSOX45 I assume that depends on how much of the contract we're willing to eat. If JR was willing to eat all of the contract -- while sending them one of our bigger contracts in Konerko or Lee -- then I'd think that we'd only have to give up one of our bigger prospects... BTW, Beastly, if we got Johnson - he'd be our ace, not Garcia. Not saying Garcia is bad, but Johnson is one of the best pitchers in baseball. Damn, that'd be nice though. Buehrle as our number three? s***, s***, s***!

SoxAce
I know that we can beat the Yankees for Randy Johnson We beat them out by getting Garcia. I have no doubt in my mind we can do the same for Randy even though I'm really sure we'll trade more than we have to.
