Pedro's asking price

I recall rotoworld saying something along the lines that it would be a smart idea for the tigers to go after him or they have alot of interest in lowe. But that is all i have ever seen.

Pretty much the Tiggies want a #1 starter, and because Lowe's a local boy, a sinkerball pitcher who would fit good at Comerica, it seems like a good fit.

They need a ground ball pitcher probally less than any team in baseball since there park is insanely big.

It SEEMS like a good fit. Ok, maybe so. That doesn't mean the Lowe has ruled out every possibility that isn't Detriot or Boston. People keep posting this kind of stuff like its gospel.

Another example ... "Pavano prefers to stay in the NL." See it all the time .... in here.

Back to the thread topic, very interesting news on Pedro.

After pitching seven shutout innings against the Cardinals in Game 3 on Tuesday, allowing just three hits, Red Sox righthander Pedro Martinez answered several questions about the possibility that it could have been his last game in a Boston uniform.

Martinez repeatedly said that his first choice would be to stay with the Red Sox. But one fascinating bit of gossip that has been circulating at the World Series envisions Martinez signing with the Giants...as the closer.

Martinez and Giants manager Felipe Alou are close. They were together in Montreal when Martinez won his first Cy Young Award in 1997.

First of all, if these playoffs have proven anything it's that the Glendon Rusches of the world don't get it done when it counts.  You need good starters, and you need lots of them.

Second of all, cap room??

Exactly. If we sign Pedro Martinez we are literally trading Pedro's stats for Jason Grilli/Felix Diaz/Danny Wright/Arnie Munoz... etal. Is it worth $13 million to the Sox to go from 3 or 4 wins and an era of 9, to 15-20 wins and a middle 3's era?

To me that is the bottom line.
