Richie Sexson - 1B - Diamondbacks

Richie Sexson was offered a three-year deal by the Diamondbacks despite the team's concerns about his shoulder.

The deal may or may not contain vesting option years. "It's a significantly improved proposal, which I think Casey (Sexson's agent Casey Close) acknowledged was significantly improved, and he's going to talk to Richie I suspect in the next 24 hours and get back to us," Diamondbacks GM Joe Garagiola Jr. said. Eric Hinske - 3B - Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are trying to trade Eric Hinske to the Reds so that they can pursue Corey Koskie in free agency.

No word on what the Jays are looking to receive. The Reds aren't a great fit for Hinske. He's owed $12.95 million over the next three seasons, and top prospect Edwin Encarnacion should be ready in 2006. The Tigers or Mariners might make more sense. Oct. 27 - 12:16 pm et

Mike Lowell - 3B - Marlins

Mike Lowell seemed optimistic that he'd back with the Marlins while speaking on a radio show yesterday.

"I think we're definitely moving in the right direction," Lowell told WQAM radio's Hank Goldberg on Tuesday. "I think something is really going to get worked out. ... I think [the Marlins] believe the stadium issue is something that can be attained." Sources told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that a deal could be announced as soon as today that would keep Lowell around for at least one more year. The Marlins may attempt to guarantee the $25.5 million Lowell is supposed to earn over the final three years of the deal he can opt out of next week. Oct. 27 - 12:25 pm et

Randy Johnson - S - Diamondbacks

The Yankees may use Javier Vazquez as bait in their next attempt to acquire Randy Johnson.

The Diamondbacks might be interested if the Yankees are willing to pay a third of the $34.5 million Vazquez is owed over the next three years and take Johnson's $17 million salary for 2005. Three years of Vazquez is worth quite a bit more than one of Johnson, especially since the Diamondbacks don't figure to be very good next season no matter what they do this winter. Rafael Palmeiro - 1B - Orioles

Orioles re-signed first baseman-designated hitter Rafael Palmeiro to a one-year contract.

This is probably a bad idea, but at least he'll come cheaper than he did last year and it's not like he's blocking any great internal alternatives at first base. Still, why make the move now? What if Carlos Delgado or Richie Sexson comes cheaper than expected? What if someone with actual upside gets non-tendered? Palmeiro rebounded at the end of the year, but he wasn't an asset as a regular and he's only likely to continue to decline at his age. Oct. 27 - 5:56 pm et

Jeff Kent - 2B - Astros

Astros declined second baseman Jeff Kent's $9 million option for 2005.

Kent gets a $700,000 buyout. The Astros might talk to him about returning at a lesser price, but he's almost certainly on his way to another team. Chris Burke will take over as Houston's second baseman. Oct. 28 - 4:15 pm et

Like I said before the WS I'd love Derek Lowe. The last pitcher I really wanted was Freddy. If we could get Derek, I'd go nutes, but hsi price has to have gone up a ton

I really don't buy into the whole if you do well in the playoffs you will get a bigger contract deal. You have to do well during the season to get into the playoffs in the first place and the last two years in the regular season he has not done very good.

I tend to agree, I think by the time the two weeks is up, the momentum from your playoff performances in typically lessened, unless of course your Carlos Beltran.

I still believe Lowe gets somwhere between 5 and 7 million. The only reason I say 5 million on the low end is because the market for #2/#3 is huge this offseason and it doesn't appear that he'll be one of the first targets.

Nor will Millwood, another guy I wouldnt mind. I've long been a Lowe fan though. However, I am starting to buy into some of the arguments about not having 4 pitchers signed long term. However at the same time, I'm a firm believer that you can almost always move pitching and that you can never have too much of it.

However, if that pitching is all injured, thats another story, but if a pitcher is still relatively young, has produced in the past, and his healthy, you'll be able to trade him, even if he has a semi bad contract....imo.

I do. What is the main purpose of signing Lowe? Propel us into the playoffs and get to the WS. I mean, that is the general goal for every team. We just saw a F.A. pitcher look great in high pressure situations, against playoff teams. It totally ups the value.

Should eric milton's value go up because he has a 1 something career era in the playoffs? Even though is is not very good during the regular season.

I still think Milton may not be a bad option if he takes at least a 50% paycut.

On a sidenote, I would be so pissed if I was a fan of the Dbacks, they are going nowhere fast. And MLB should be very careful with them cause they are freaking bankrupt up the ying yang.

I think I'd like Kent.  He's a pretty damn solid player and is a winner.

My only beef with him is his lack of range at 2B.

Darn Lack of range and his Range Factor is better than the League Average

I would take Kent.

Here are Kent's stats Check out the range factor

I doubt he'll be doing that, especially after the number of wins he posted this season. I think he'll go to the Yanks, Red Sox or stay with the Phillies.

Makes no sense to me. They reportedly have interest in milton but not perez. I mean it's not close perez is clearly the better pitcher.
