He is going to get destroyed in the AL. His arm is crap now and his era was close to 5 in the NL. 2003 is a distant memory for this guy. If he was worth anything dont you think that someone would of picked him up for anything and given him more than a single year.

Also, Cleveland has a retty good GM and he might know something other GM's dont although it is a 1 yr deal.
Chisoxfn
Thats a lot of money for Millwood. I'd of given him that much in incentives but thats way too much guaranteed.
southsideirish71
Eric Milton received a three-year, $25.5 million contract from the Reds. $8.5 million per season for a pitcher with a career ERA of 4.76. This just might be the worst deal of the offseason, which is really saying something. Milton receives a $4 million signing bonus, $4 million in 2005, $8.5 million in 2006 and $9 million in 2007. He can opt out of the final year of the deal just in case he actually exceeds expectations. We put the chances of that happening at 1.9 percent. Dec. 27 - 3:06 pm et 8.5 million for that. El Duque what a bargain you are.
JUGGERNAUT
I just heard Odalis Perez is lobbying for the Mets to sign him so he can join Pedro. He wants a Clement like contract. Why did I ever waste one word lobbying for this guy to join the CWS? We had ZERO chance of landing him! That makes the El Duque signing look much better. southsider2k5
Are the Yankees preparing for life without Giambi? They resigned Tino Martinez to a deal http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1956045
SoxFanForever
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2004 -> 03:39 PM) Are the Yankees preparing for life without Giambi? They resigned Tino Martinez to a deal http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1956045 Either that or insurance if MLB penalizes him. Either way I am sure they are planning on Tino being the starter unless Giambi is around and can out perform Tino in ST.

southsideirish71
Odalis Perez will re-sign with the Dodgers for $24 million over three years, ESPNews reports. At one point in the offseason, it had seemed like offers for Perez may top out at about $5 million per season. This is more in line with what he deserves compared to what Russ Ortiz, Eric Milton and Kris Benson received. Staying with the Dodgers should allow him to keep posting sub-4.00 ERAs through the end of the deal. With Perez joining Jeff Weaver and Brad Penny, there are now two rotation spots open for Edwin Jackson, Kazuhisa Ishii, Elmer Dessens and Wilson Alvarez. The Dodgers still could add another pitcher to guarantee that both Dessens and Alvarez will work out of the pen initially. Jan. 4 - 6:01 pm et 8 mill per. This was the year for pitchers to get highway robbery. Thank god we traded for Freddy, imagine his contract on the open market.

JUGGERNAUT
It used to be you needed to have a era < 4.00 just to make a rotation. Now we see Garland with an era < 5.00 worth 4M as a 5th starter. If Garland is worth 4M then Perez with an era < 4.00 is worth 8M. MLB economics.

I think Garland has as much of chance to be 4.00 in the AL as Garland. I like for $4mil vs. Perez at $8mil.
JUGGERNAUT
Well now we can finally assess the RJ trade. The AZD traded RJ + 3 mlers for $19M, Vazquez, Halsley, & Green. Was it a good trade? I think it was because every player the AZD received is now locked up for a few years.
YASNY
Paul Bako signs with LA. And this note out of Houston. Only in the final hour or so before Saturday's 11 p.m. deadline did he (McLane) and Scott Boras have a serious give-and-take about Carlos Beltran. McLane now wonders if Beltran ever intended to sign with the Astros. He wonders if he was used as leverage to get Beltran a deal elsewhere. Imagine that! :rolly EDIT: This column is interesting. This sounds a lot like what we heard from the Sox after the ARod negotiations a few years ago. Knowing the Astros had their hands tied this offseason while trying to keep Beltran, and with what was happening on the Ordonez situation, KW was wise to wash his hands of Magglio (and any other Boras clients) and move on. YASNY
But the Blue Jays' signing of Schoeneweis, a left-handed pitcher, to a two-year, $5.2-million (all figures U.S.) contract following a morning physical examination will at least allow general manager J. P. Ricciardi to put another check mark on a list of modest off-season goals.
DBAHO
That's a fairly good signing for Riccardi right there. Lilly and Shoe will give them 2 good lefties in the rotation, if Shoe can stay healthy.

JUGGERNAUT
Any news on Rowand yet? Does any one know how that works? I thought with RFA's the team has the right to offer arbit or sign the player. If they offer arbit by the deadline the player has no right of refusal (< 6 yr player). If they don't offer arbit the player becomes a FA. As I understand the CWS did not offer Rowand arbit. Is there now a deadline at which he must be signed or he becomes a FA? Gene Honda Civic
Shawn Estes has supposedly signed a 1 year deal worth between 2.5 and 3M to play for the D'backs. -- What's funnier is this quote if found Sources in Washington said the new Nationals — who lost a bidding war with the Dodgers for Odalis Perez over the weekend — offered Estes a two-year deal worth about $7 million. But Estes, who lives in Paradise Valley, and his wife Heather have two young sons who are 15 months or younger, and Estes didn't want to uproot the family. Jesus H. Christmaspunchers is Bowden an idiot.
santo=dorf
Phillies signed RHP Terry Adams, who has been with the Red Sox, to a one-year, $500,000 contract. Adams spent 2002 and 2003 with the Phillies and posted a career-best 2.65 ERA in his second season. He'll work in middle relief. This should complete a Philadelphia bullpen that will also include Billy Wagner, Tim Worrell, Ryan Madson, Rheal Cormier, Amaury Telemaco and Aaron Fultz. However, GM Ed Wade can never have too many veteran relievers
