Chisoxfn
BoSox will do everything they can to keep Varitek, but at the same time they ahve so many free agents that he could get lost in the shuffle. Don't think for a second that everything is rosey in Boston cause Epstein has two weeks where he can negotiate without other teams being invovled, so he's gonna do all he can to get his guys locked up in this next two weeks. If quite a few of them are waiting to test the waters, then Boston is gonna have to have backup plan after backup plan cause things could get interesting. In fact, I'd consider teh Sox a sleeper in the Varitek sweepstakes, soley because he fits multiple needs (left handed bat, catcher, leadership). I don't think Boston will let him go, because along with Pedro he's probably their key free agent, but its something to take note at. Also, no doubt in my mind that LA makes a prominent offer because I expect Beltre to be elsewhere.

I don't think Varitek will be signed within the next 2 weeks, simply because of the fact Boras is his agent. We all saw what happened with I-Rod last off-season, if Varitek doesn't get that type of offer straight away, we could have that type of situation possibly on our hands again. Plus the catcher's FA market is hardly stocked with talent, there's only LoDuca but he's only arbitration eligible, and the Marlins will probably lock him up to a 3 year $21 million deal. Varitek could get anywhere from $30 to $40 million from 4 to 5 years.

Plus Pudge's situation is a bit different because Javy Lopez was on the market with him and it didn't appear many teams were really looking to upgrade heavy at the catcher position. That is what the marlins highest offer for him will be i heard. Anyways i think the sox should go after mike redmond hard. I expect him to bounce back after his down year this year. Coming into this year he was nearly a .290 hitter and had an obp over .350.

Jesus, I didn't realize the Marlins would piss their money away like that. LoDuca has great heart and does some things very well, but he's no 7 mill a year catcher. There was an article in one of the Florida papers saying that if they wanted to avoid arbitration with him, that would be the likely offer that he would accept. They don't want another I-Rod situation again, so I expect them to get a deal done, especially with Stadium Talks progressing.
Gene Honda Civic
I think the Dodgers will end up with Kendall (I know he's not a FA)
DBAHO
I think the Dodgers will end up with Kendall (I know he's not a FA) Pittsburgh will probably have to pay 40 to 50% of his salary to get a deal done, but he'd be a perfect #2 hitter for them as he would for most teams. Littlefield will probably ask for one of Miller or Jackson though, dunno if DePodesta would give up either of them though.
qwerty
I think the Dodgers will end up with Kendall (I know he's not a FA) There was a rumored deal jason kendall and craig wilson for david ross and yhency brazoban. I could see something along those lines but it makes no sense that wilson would have to be in the deal.

I could see something along those lines but it makes no sense that wilson would have to be in the deal. Dave Littlefield is crazy if he does that. Ross hasn't shown he can hit in the majors, and Brazoban has only been pitching in the majors this season. If the Piraes are interested in dealing Wilson though, he's certainly a guy who could play Catcher, First Base and Right Field for us, and he usually crushes lefties. Chisoxfn
If the Pirates didn't have to pick up Kendalls contract then I'd say that deal makes some sense. However, any other way and they would be absolutely nuts to make that deal. I'm a huge backer of Brazoban. He was a steal in the Kevin Brown deal. Dan Evans ran all the way to the bank on that one (Yep, I'm actually complimenting Evans). By the way, just want to add something on David Ross....HE SUCKS ASS. That guy is awful at the plate, although he does have some power potential.
SmokeandMirrors
Nick Neugebauer is a right handed pitcher. http://milb.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnfor...r.aspx?team=K34 Edit: Crudale, Roa and Levine (though he bats left) are also righties. And yes, I do realize that I'm nitpicking.. it's a curse I'm afraid.

qwerty
Blanco's a FA? I could have sworn Minnesota picked up his option. They reported they were gonna. But he had some clause in his contract that once he had 280 at-bats he could beoome a free agent.
Gene Honda Civic
Blanco's a FA? I could have sworn Minnesota picked up his option. They did, but there was some undisclosed clause in there that allowed it to be terminated... They picked up some catcher from the Reds off of waivers last week or something. I guess he's gonna replace Blanco Henry Blanco has become a free agent after exercising a previously undisclosed clause in his contract. The Twins announced a couple of weeks ago that they were exercising Blanco's $750,000 option for 2005, but since Blanco had more than 280 plate appearances last season, he had the right to become a free agent. Blanco indicated he still would prefer to return to Minnesota. The Twins should be able to make it happen for $1 million or so. Oct. 29 - 3:41 am et Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune Edit: Corky Miller was the Catcher they picked up.
