Clement?

What about Clement if the price is right? I don;t see him signing with the cubs and well i think matt likes chicago, he wouldn't be a bad pick up if we can't land any of the big name guys such as pavano or unit (in a trade of course). I think if clement can keep his era in the low 3's like last year he might do us some good. I wouldn't mind seeing some comiskey faithful with that stupid gold tee on their chins. I see him as good #3 starter behind garcia and buerhrle.

I think it's more likely we'd get Clement instead of Lowe, espeically after Lowe's postseason. There's quite a market for him, Texas, Detroit and St. Louis are all very interested. Clement's had a histroy of arm problems though, but he's an excellent groundball pitcher which is what we need at the Cell.

I'd get him having one thing in mind...to not allow him to go 100+ pitches.

Usually, the nastier the slider bites, the nastier it is on the arm. You throw too many of those and you are going to hurt your arm pretty bad. You want him to be a stud for you all year long, you should probably try to keep him fresh.

At least if you sign a guy like Clement, and it doesn't break the bank, we do have some possible replacements in Grilli and Diaz, but we shouldn't depend on them at all to be our 5th starter. Let's not put all of our eggs into one basket. ;)

I would not want clement on our ballclub. He is WAY to inconsistant and we have enough problems with inconsitancy as it is. I also believe he would be BOMBED in the american league, i believe he has a terrible interleague era and w/l record

nah, id take lowe over him. theyre both sinkerballers, but lowe  is slightly better IMO. although, if i had the choice, i wouldnt want either!

What is with this obsession with Lowe? I am really getting sick of it. People are justifing Lowe because of his great groundball ratio, but that alone doesn't make him a good pitcher. Why is that hard to understand? Why do people ignore the fact that he had a terrible 5.42 ERA? His peripherals are down right terrible including an opp. BA of .299 and WHIP of 1.61. Not to mention that he has gotten progressively worse over the last 2 years(his 2002 season was a fluke). Yet people ignore these facts and are blinded by the fact that he is a groundball pitcher. Would Lowe be a decent option as a bottom of the rotation starter, and for the right price(under 6M)? Sure, but that isn't going to happen. Saying that Lowe is a better pitcher than Clement is just plain stupid.

Why would Clement get BOMBED in the AL? This stuff is also making me sick. Sure there is usually a slight difference between NL and AL, but to suggest that a consistant pitcher with an ERA around/below 4 is going to get BOMBED if he moved to the AL is just plain stupid and holds no water. Clement is one of the top groundball pitchers in the game, and has never given up more than 23 HR in a season, so you don't have to worry about him giving up a ton of HR's with a move to the AL/USCF. So please explain what kind of logic you used to lead you to the conclusion that Clement would get hammered in the AL?

I think Clement would be a great option if his asking price is not too high(under 8M). I realize that some people are worried about his health due to the wear and tear on his arm from that nasty slider, but he has remained relatively healthy the past 6 years(169+ IP in each season).

Is Clement healthy?  That is my question.  He fell apart in the last 6 weeks of the year, including his velocity.

That's what I'd like to know too. I'll take a healthy Clement; hell, he can be our number three, and we got a pretty damn good staff. But if he's the least bit unhealthy, I don't want to touch him at all...

Of all the guys out there Clement ranks right up there for me. He is a stud with just sick s*** to throw at hitters plus he keeps the ball in the park.RJ would be nice to have but I dont want to blow our load on one guy we have many areas of need RJ would take up way too much money. Pavano is a one year wonder imo he may be good or he can be a total bust I just rather have some other team find that one out. Pedro would be nice even though he may have lost a little something over the years the hitters in the league still fear him but I thin he may cost us to much not to mention his arm problems. Radke I wouldnt even look at he is a bumm has one good year for 3 bad years. If I had the choice it would be not in anyorder here but clement, morris, woody williams, leiter
