Randy Johnson and Jon Lieber

DBAHO

The source is garbage , but still worth talking about, even though Lieber doesn't particulary concern us, he could be an option.

Like how about Randy Johnson with the White Sox? The Yanks want him, but they might only be able to land him in a three-way trade. The Cardinals are the new darlings in the field. But the White Sox, with a package built around Carlos Lee and Jon Garland, could be most attractive.

Like how about Jon Lieber in Cleveland, Texas or Toronto? The Yanks foolishly might not pick up Lieber's option, feeling $8 million is too expensive. But Lieber has value, even as trade bait. Could this be a sign — as some outside executives are whispering — that Steinbrenner's reaction to losing to Boston is to slash, not expand, payroll?

Does anyone else think that Carlos and Garland for Randy is not a good move by us?

::raises hand in agreement::

I think it's the fact that its Lee and not PK. I feel we can live without, but Carlos isn't really as expendable to this lineup. I know PK just had that monster year, but I can stomach him and JG going over JG and Caballo.

I dont like either of those trades I think were giving up to much for a 41 y/o rent-a-player imo. Another thing I dont understand is why is everyone so willing to trade PK over C-Lee if I were the GM considering the fact I have two highly touted minor league OF'ers maybe a year away I would be more inclined to move lee then I would Pk. I like Paulie he is the heart of this team one of the very few leaders we really have I think trading him Hurts us more then moving anyone else on the team.

Check out Paulie's home/road splits. He's more expendable than Lee in my opinion.

I agree. I would much rather move Konerko than Lee. Lee is more athletic and a better hitter. Plus I think 1B can be filled easier than an OF spot. It may sound crazy, but Gload has shown some ability to hit major league pitching. None of the current OF candidates (Borchard, Escobar, and (ahem) Perez) have done that.

I can understand people who think the risk would be worth it, because Johnson was outstanding last year. But it's a pretty big gamble that his knee and 40 year old body will hold up (I know...Clemens and Maddux are old too, but as far as I know they don't have their knee shot up before each start). And it's a one year thing where the Sox again get an older player for younger ones. It may be irrational, but I hate to see the Sox make moves that remind me of the late 90s Baltimore Orioles.

Most importantly, I don't think that trade alone (or with the signing of Vizquel) even makes the Sox a better team than the Twins. The lineup will look lousy (Ordonez and Lee gone and Thomas not sure to be healhty). And there's still no 5th starter and the bullpen is shaky. I think they could improve the team just as much by simply signing a decent starting pitcher and reliever and keeping Lee.

All this talk about CLee getting moved is depressing. He has been our most consitent Sox year-in and year-out. I thinking moving him is a big mistake, but I'm starting to get the feeling that CLee will be moved instead of PK.

CLee and Garland is too much for Johnson. I'd trade Garland for a bag of baseballs...but moving CLee for a rent-a-player is a bad decision. Would this trade have been too much 4 year ago? No.

If Caballo is traded, could that mean that K-Dub has another trade in the offing for an OF? Maybe a Danny Bautista would be included in a trade with 'Zona? Or perhaps a three-way trade with someone? I do have faith in K-Dub that he has a plan to replace CLee if traded. Thoughts?

See if it is Konerko and Garland for Randy Johnson I make this deal. I fully believe in Ross Gload and think he's more then capable.

However, I am still hoping somehow KW checks out this board, calls the Angels up and the Guillen/Erstad for Konerko deal goes down. That deal still leaves the Sox open to deal Lee in a package for the Unit, while still keeping some caliber bats.

Their are so many ways the Sox can go this off-season, all end up with a similar result, the question is which pieces are going to be here. We'll find out soon enough.

Torn on Carlos, but see ya later Garland.

But ya gotta give to get. I think Konerko would be easier to replace than Lee, but I'm not the GM.

Sweeney or Anderson era could be ready to begin soon.

Lee and Garland are way to much talent to give away for a pitcher nearing the end of his career. It weakens us overall. Randy is a very good if not great picther, but he doesn't have that much time left and he was injured last year.

I don't understand it, if we're willing to give up a Lee/Konerko, and Garland for a domiant pitcher, why would we do it for a 40 yr. old. I'm sure teams would be willing to give up pitching for guys like Garland and Lee.

How about this: Lee, Garland- Hudson

How about this: Lee, Garland- Pineiro, Jacobson

There are other possibilities other than RJ

Well we play 81 games here at home but thats not my point here. Konerko is the leader of this team without doubt trading your only real leader is not a good statement to make regardless of what you get in return. Would I like to have Randy sure who wouldnt but for the price no thanks. Also its alot easier to replace a 290 hitting 30 homer OF'er then a 40 Homer 100 RBI first basemen. I know alot of you seem to be real high on Gload and all but there is no way I replace PK with him you wanna talk about a major drop off look at that for a second and think about it. Maggs is gone, Thomas who the hell knows what to expect from him, carlos lee will do his norm but the rest of the lineup is suspect you cant afford to trade PK and play Gload in his place. Lee on the other hand has a better trade market then PK and he is easily replaced rather by Carl or another FA OF'er the production lee puts up really isnt that hard to find. OF'er are a dime a dozen. We can replace Lee production with no problem but can we replace PK leadership as easy???

I don't want to see Lee in any trade for Johnson. Johnson is 41 and I know he's a great pitcher, but I think in order to win a World Series, we gotta have great pitching and hitting. The only reason why I could see Lee getting traded is because Mr. Everett is coming back. I for sure don't want to see Rowand, Borchard, and Everett roaming the grass. Rowand I'm fine with but not the others.

Why in the hell would we trade Garland!

Garland will get 12 wins at least next year and we could sign a cheaper pitcher to replace the 15 wins Johnson would get us.

If we do this deal however we end up with a 15 game winner in Johnson and a 2-5 game winner in Jason Grilli.

No deal. I'd rather have Lowe or anyone else.

No on Johnson.

I have a feeling Everett Is going to have a HUGE year for us watch ... 280 avg 33+ hr's 100+rbi's He is going to have the kinda of year he had with Boston his first year there Watch even better I bet. Joe I dont want to see at all he sucks I would rather if lee was gone we took a chance on guys like Dye, Or Juan Gone cause they will be cheap and if their healthy would put up huge numbers here at the cell. Then we could worry about our real needs which are Pitching both starting and bullpen and a dam LEADOFF HITTER that is our biggest need right there we need a table setter.

I agree 100% If Garland is in this trade it makes no sense cause were right back where we started without a proven #5 guy
