What the hell?

From today's game recap on Yahoo!

White Sox rookie left-hander Josh Stewart gave up one run, one walk and five hits over five innings to continue his impressive spring.

Stewart has tentatively been named the White Sox's fifth starter, depending on the ongoing progress of right-hander Danny Wright, who missed three weeks with an inflamed elbow.

``To the best of my understanding I'm preparing myself to pitch against the Tigers on April 6,'' Stewart said.

I thought everything was going as scheduled for Danny?

In all honesty, I don't think anyone knows until it happens. I think some in the White Sox believe its best to give Wright plenty of time, meaning send him to AAA and since we will only use the 5th guy once in the first month, we could go with Stewart for a start, then use him as the long guy out of the pen or to make any other starts and then when its done, Wright comes up; Stewart gets a little seasoning and knows exactly what he has to work on in AAA, and if he pitches light out, then thats just a good problem to have.

I thought I knew what I wanted the Sox to do, but now I'm not certain.

Stewart is pitching VERY well right now, and Danny is not ready. He might be throwing well for 2 innings, but there's a HUGE difference between throwing 2 innings and 30 pitches and throwing 5 innings and 75 pitches.

I've changed my mind -- I want the Sox to go with Stewart to open the season, and let Danny work for 3 or 4 starts in AAA so he can stretch himself out and be CERTAIN that his elbow is ready for major league hitting.

But, we'll see what happens.

That sounds like the best plan to me.

And then, what some may not realize, is that we then have a 3rd lefty out of the pen for most of the month.

I think keeping Stewart is a combination of rewarding him for performing and being cautious with Danny.
