He looked good all pre-season and may even be a potential building piece in LA. It wasn't that long ago when Mihm was one of the more highly touted center prospects in college (back when he was at Texas). Still its just one game, but he should be able to learn some nuances from Vlade once he gets healthy. The other guy on the Lakers I'd like to see more of is Brian Cook. He was hurt most of last year but he was a machine in Illinois. He's a good athlete and should help ther low post position. The big question for the Lakers is who is going to get boards. They want to run and play agressive, but to succeed at that they are going to have to excel on the boards and get quick outlet passes. Utah looking fantastic tonight. I'm with you guys, Sloan is one of the best, if not the best in the league right now.

Other than that, what do you do with a 6-9 tweener with a solid baseline jumper who's afraid of contact? He's not the rebounding answer by any stretch. For rebounding you gotta look at Mihm, Grant (who's hurt now apparently), and Odom. Beyond that, I'm with you, they are thin.
Palehosefan
If Cook develops a 3 pointer he could be the next Sam Perkins. Sam had over 15,000 career NBA points and almost 7500 career rebounds with over 2200 3 pointers. If Brian develops into that, LA will have a serious weapon, but Brian doesn't have the 3 point touch or the 2,000 foot wingspan Sam had. Don't hold your breath. My point wasn't that he will, or even that he could, be the next Big Smooth. My point was, for the tendencies he's exhibited in the past few years it would seem that his only option is to try and make a living 22 feet from the basket. He's obviously not in any hurry to develop many post moves.
Spiff
Kobe just went nutty on AK-47. I don't wanna break out the J-Word but that reminded me of a certain guy who used to play for the Bulls. Oh and there goes Mihm picking up his fourth halfway through the third quarter. I knew he'd show up sooner or later.
qwerty
Same old, same old for mihm. 4 fouls with 7 minutes left in the 3rd. Kirilenko is basically beating the lakers by himself, 6 blocks thus far. He is an absolute monster.

Chisoxfn
Boozer is playing good too. No doubt that Kobe is good, but I also believe he's an ass. One nice thing is that he has amazing work ethic.

Boozer is 8-10 with 8 rebounds and 2 assists 20 points. Not a bad first game on your new team.
Spiff
I keep on wondering, is anyone else really tired of this T-Mac commercial?
Chisoxfn
If Houston keeps losing I think we'll start to see less Tmac commercials.
witesoxfan
I keep on wondering, is anyone else really tired of this T-Mac commercial? I haven't seen it enough to be tired of it. I think it's pretty cool the first couple times you see it, but I'm sure it may get annoying after a while. Most commercials do
Chisoxfn
The only commercial that just doesn't seem to get tiring to me is that Mike Vick experience commercial. Man thats just a cool commercial. That and that old beer commercial with the two girls fighting
Spiff
Quite an ass-whooping the Jazz put on the Lake-show. I can't imagine that Utah on the second night of a back-to-back with San Antonio on the horizon Friday night is easy to deal with, but that was a weak display. Utah just took them apart all over the court, and L.A. couldn't keep up at all. They were two steps behind. To quote Bill Simmons, when did the Lakers become the Clippers? Palehosefan
We will finally get to see if Kobe is indeed on Michael's level. Can Kobe lead the Lakers without a dominant big man to a chamionship? I'm not holding my breath. I hope no one else is either. You know Lamar, Caron, and even Brian Grant are going to get frustrated running up and down the floor playing defense and seeing Kobe jack up shot after shot after shot. They are used to having Dwyane Wade look for them first. Kobe has to first make his team better, then worry about scoring 30+ a game like Michael did. I don't see the first part happening, even with 7 assists in the first game. Kobe is always going to get a high number of assists because he's a pretty good passer and the ball is ALWAYS in his hands everytime down the floor. I know for sure a duo of Kobe and Lamar in the open floor could wreak havoc, Rudy should run-n-gun with Kobe at the 2G, Caron at the SF, and Lamar at the PF position with Mihm holding down the C position. Kobe is a very good defender as everyone knows, but Caron is also a very good defender which will lead to fast breaks and Lamar is pretty much a PG in the open floor. Don't people realize that Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman were two of the greatest defensive players ever? Both are in the Top 50 greatest players ever, period? Why would Kobe win anything unless he had some all-time greats to play with? I'm confused by the masses, as always.
Jordan4life_2007
The Lakers aren't going anywhere without a legitimate post presence. Chris Mihm? Brian Grant? An old decrepid Vlade Divac? It's not happenin. They also have serious issues at pg. Chucky Atkins would be a nice backup, but he's not starter material. Their back ups are Sasha Vujacic and Tierre "I spent last season in the nbdl" Brown. I also question how well Kobe and Odom can coexist. They both need the ball in their hands a lot to be effective. Odom Shot 34% in the preseason and hasn't shot the ball well at all the first two games.

He just has to prove he can lead a a team ala Jordan as the focal point. Scottie, Rodman, Horace, Kerr, ect, all played their roles and were big reasons for the championships. But we know who was the MAIN reason.
Palehosefan
Michael proved he could win without a great center, and without Dennis Rodman, he was just icing on the cake. Caron Butler is very good defensively, Lamar Odom is a heck of a player also. Chris Mihm as dumb as he is, is atleast as good as any center MJ ever had. Sure MJ had Scottie by his side the whole time, and Rodman and Kukoc for a few years, but he also had guys like Paxton, Kerr, Wennington, Scott Williams, Cartwright, Longley, Harper, and taught them how to win. We will see if Kobe can do the same, I'm not expecting a championship from him, just that they play at a higher level than anyone expected. Just read JD4Life's post and thats exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Again, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman are NBA legends. Combine them with Jordan, and you have three of the five All-NBA Defensive Team starters in the nineties...the all-decade team. ALL-NBA DEFENSE Sure MJ had Scottie by his side the whole time, and Rodman and Kukoc for a few years, but he also had guys like Paxton, Kerr, Wennington, Scott Williams, Cartwright, Longley, Harper, and taught them how to win. We will see if Kobe can do the same, I'm not expecting a championship from him, just that they play at a higher level than anyone expected. I can't say that I agree with any of this. The Bulls won in spite of guys like Wennington, Williams, Longley, etc. Jordan taught these guys how to win? Since when is Jordan of the teaching mold? He'll school you in practice and talk s*** afterwards. He has straight up demoralized young players in the past. If anything, his competitive fire rubbed off on other veterans, but you make it sound like he was responsible for minimizing their mistakes. That's comedy. Just read JD4Life's post and thats exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks. He said that Kobe has to prove that he can be the focal point of a championship team with a bunch of role players. If some of those role players are NBA legends (Rodman, Pippen), then yeah, I agree. But in my world, Kobe has to prove that he can even lead a team out of the first round with this supporting cast. f*** around and get manhandled by the Utah Jazz.
