Punch and Judy Garland
Well given his $2 million dollar buyout, the Yankees cannot offer him more than $6 unless they go multi-year. Of course they could offer more than $6 but it would be idiotic to pay over $8 in the end. If I'm Lieber I btter get 3 or more years from somebody. New York, which owes Lieber a $250,000 buyout, has said it wants to re-sign the 33-year-old right-hander. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?i...TC-DT9705204233

YASNY
Lieber's a better pitcher than what he was this year. This year was his year to regain his form and rebuild his strength after the surgery. Next year he will just as effective as he was for the Cubs in '02.
The Critic
I agree with YASNY. To win 14 games in his "recovery year" was impressive. Plus, Lieber's a solid professional who doesn't make excuses or throw teammates under the bus when he has a bad outing or some bad luck. He's a solid pitcher and a stand-up guy, and I wish the Sox had him. I think he'll have some loyalty to the Yankees since they were the only ones to sign him when they knew he'd miss at least a year. I'd be surprised if they didn't have the framework of a deal already in place. The Yanks have to clear up some Beltran Money somehow, right? YASNY
No ex-Scrubs, please. If he can pitch, I don't care who he used to play for.
witesoxfan
No ex-Scrubs, please. By that logic, you wouldn't want Mark Prior at the front of your rotation, or Flash Gordon as a setup guy in your pen. Don't be a homer. If the guy can play, he could have played in the California Pino league for all I care.

Do you mean "California Penal", as in Major League? Rick Vaughn? Just wondering, cuz that's what it sounds like you're going for...and if so, a FINE choice of movie references! and I don't know about you, but I'd take Aramis Ramirez to play 3B for the Sox despite the goofy outift he's been forced to wear the past year-and-a-half....
