chisox05
Pierre has no power and either does castillio and they both play them shallow as hell, does not seem to be hurting them any. I dislike willie as much as anyone but give him one more year until you write him off. Theres a difference, Pierre hits to all parts of the field, has GREAT bat control, can bunt. Castillo just has GREAT bat control. Willie doesnt, in fact he has poor bat control, and a player cant afford to have that if they arent a power hitter. I have seen willie slap the ball to the left side of the field numerous times this past year. Willie was treated like s*** throughout the entire year by ozzie. He would have a couple nice game and bench him for no apparent reason and thats just not right. If we have a number nine hitter that has a .343 obp we will easily have one of the top offenses in the league.

Willie was batting like .320 then all of the sudden he waqs benched... who knows how he would have finished if they let him play... Thats one thing that I never understood.. He was hitting so well and then I never saw him again

At this current stage of his career, Willie probably isn't ready and suited to be a leadoff man in the majors. But he's good enough to be a hitter down at the #9 spot. Whether that will be with this team, I just don't know. FWIW here's the OBP's of 2nd baseman in our division from this season. Willie Harris - .262 average, .343 OBP ($318,500) Ron Belliard - .282 average, .348 OBP ($1,100,000) Omar Infante - .264 average, .317 OBP ($305,000) Desi Relaford - .221 average, .296 OBP ($900,000) Luis Rivas - .256 average, .283 OBP ($1,500,000)

He was hitting so well and then I never saw him again I think you can blame arow for that one. It seemed like willie was going to start playing centerfield with jose at short and juan at 2nd but then arow got hot and willie lost his starting role. Rowand44
Here's a completely random thought on willie. Does anyone know if willie drew a lot of walks down at the minor league level, for some reason I didn't think he did. Anyways could it be possible that people in the organization have tried to get willie to become more patient so he could become a leadoff hitter and this has maybe taken away some of his aggressiveness?? Anyways, if willie did actually draw a decent amount of walks in the minors I guess my theory goes out the window.

It seemed like willie was going to start playing centerfield with jose at short and juan at 2nd but then arow got hot and willie lost his starting role. When he started losing time he was playing second daily and that is when uribe was extremely cold. But ozzie opted to start uribe over him anyway. DBAHO
Exactly, we don't really have much to complain about. Compared to someone like Rivas, you'd think we should be glad we have Harris. Willie gets into grooves for about 3 to 4 games, goes on a hot streak and then goes cold. To become a better hitter, he's got to be more consistent on a regular basis, and not into a cold streak for long periods of time.

In 454 games in his minor league career, Harris has drawn 209 walks and struck out 284 times. Most walks he had in a season was 89 in single A ball in 133 games in 2000 when he was with the O's organisation.
Gene Honda Civic
OK, I think we've all had our fun now... It's getting late, and I don't feel like babysitting this thread. Redandwhite you need to get over your infatuation with Qwerty. Chisox05 needs to think before he types, but I'm sure he'll learn that in the future. This thread has lacked any real conversation since about page 3. And none of it was about the GM meetings. I'm closing it. If you feel there was actually a conversation worth having, start a new thread in the appropriate forum.
southsider2k5
Thanks for closing this when you did Cheat. I went ahead and split out all of the arguement posts, and moved them elsewhere. If I missed any, PM me and let me know, and I will move them out as well. I am going to reopen this thread with this fair warning, I don't want to see anymore residual stuff from the early arguements. Just let it go, and go back to posting normally. Thanks guys
CWSGuy406
My apologies for any problems I caused, Cheat and SS2k. I was a bit riled up last night, should have just let it be. Go Sox!
