santo=dorf
They better sign Clement or someone like him then or we're gonna be spinning this bad boy every 5th day all season long yet again. I think we're more likely to get more quality starts from a Johnson-Grilli combo than a Garland-Clement combo. Clement can be a headcase like Garland and he is more injury prone than Johnson. Garland and Clement would be better than RJ and Grilli... hands down
Texsox
You also have to factor in the AL vs. NL in total offense. I will not get excited about this possible trade. I just do not see Randy coming here. I believe he would rather stay put than play for a second place team. I'll bet if any of the playoff teams from last year put a decent trade together and the team asked RJ to waive his no trade, he'd jump at it. santo=dorf
No they wouldnt be as bad but I dont see RJ posting a 2 something ERA with us.. hed prolly get 15 wins... but his ERA would be high What do you mean by "high?" Above the league average, or a raw number like 5.00? Buehrle was able to post a 3.89 ERA this season, I'm sure Johnson could post an ERA pitching like that att USCF. santo=dorf
I dont agree with that at all... Garland and Clement would be better than RJ and Grilli... hands down Based on what? Johnson is twice the pitcher that Garland is, Clement's career numbers aren't that impressive for a career NL pitcher, and Grilli only made 8 starts for the Sox. If this team wants to win big, they need a dominating pitcher. A well rounded rotation didn't win the Cardinals a World Series because they were mowed down by TWO dominating pitchers. Clement had horrible run support last year, thats one of the reasons his W/L was down.. And do you honestly think were a Randy Johnson away from going to the World Series? southsider2k5
You really need to put the crack pipe down Jeckle. Randy won 16 games for a team that won less than 60 games this past year. Do you really think the 2005 Sox offense would be as bad as the 2004 Diamondbacks' offense if we lost Konerko? Let me amend that equation to minus Konerko plus Thomas... WilliamTell
I'd be all for it if Frank could still play first base. Maybe he still can, I don't know. That way we could have Frank at first and Everett at DH. I don't think it'll happen that way though. Gload will probably be at first. witesoxfan
I do not see why people are making the sticking points of this trade out to be Konerko and Garland, because they are not sticking points at all. Konerko is not nearly as important to the club as so many people here make him out to be, and Garland is very easily replaced(hell, we can sign Wilson Alvarez to a 1-year deal, and let him be a Sox oldy-timer pitching every 5th day for us...he'd probably be better then Garland, who knows...there are so many guys out there like that that it would be hard for KW and Ozzie not to replace Garland). You can also sign some low-risk, high-reward guys to try and help replace Konerko...someone like Randall Simon or David Segui...and that will help replace them too. A platoon of Gload-Simon would probably be able to get it done over a full year. The sticking point of the trade is Brian Anderson. Do you want to deal your #1 prospect AGAIN, even when you know you are very close to rebuilding? And I think getting RJ could very easily be a move that pushes us over the top, and I do believe that trading Anderson for RJ is justifiable. He is probably like the 1 player(that is available for trade, of course) who I would trade Anderson for.
