Chisoxfn
Alright, I've been thinking. Its no secret the Dodgers are trying to dump Shawn Green and to see they consider taking on CJ and Chacon in exchange for him, you'd have to think another team could get involved without giving up much in return. So I ask, what if the Sox offer Carl Everett and Ben Davis (he can compete for their starting job) for Shawn Green and cash. Make it work out to where the Sox pay roughly 7-8 million for Green. Green plays a good right field (although he wasn't as good as usual out their this year) and would provide a left handed bat in the middle of this lineup. The Sox still have the option of moving one of Konerko or Lee, while still having a bat and clearing a contract. I don't know if the Dodgers would do this deal, but its a hell of a lot better proposition then CJ/Chacon or Sammy Sosa and his albatross of a contract. Plus Green's numbers should drastically improve moving from Chavez Ravine to US Cell. He's also a tremendous clubhouse guy and is healthy. Plus lets remember what he last did when he had some serious protection around him in the lineup (although this year he did have Adrian Beltre). 2004: .266 AVG, 28 HR, 86 RBi, .352 OBP, .811 OPS

qwerty
He had three really good years and then the rest of his career has been medicore. Also he has never had an ops over .1000 which is not good since he was once a supposed ''superstar''.
SoxAce
Green is kind of a "eh".. to me. Nothing great about him since we don't need another low average, power guy(depending who we move) but he is a solid player. Wouldn't be my first option but wouldn't be my last eigher. Rowand44
I honestly believe Carl is going to come to camp in shape and have a huge year for us. I think he can be that power lefty bat in our lineup for this year. So I'd kind of like to see how Carl comes to camp but I still wouldn't mind shawn. The obvious plus with green over carl is the defensive abilities of the two.
Chisoxfn
Me, I've came to the foregone conclusion that I'd like to see the Sox move Everett and Contreras. I think both of their contracts suck and if the Sox could somehow get a player that maybe another team doesn't want and free up some finances possibly then it could be a wise thing to do. With the latest rumors (I know, their just rumors) it would at least appear the Sox are more likely to shop Konerko over Lee. If thats the case then it means Everett would have to play RF and as far as I'm concerned that isn't an option. I realize the Sox will need him to DH for possibly a month until Thomas comes back, but you could find a much more affordable part time DH, imo. I definitely think they're going to move Pauly before carlos. I got a question for you jas, if carl got back in shape do you think he's capable of playing right field?? I mean he was fat and slow last year, if he sheds some pounds and comes to camp in shape do you think he's capable of playing the outfield?? No, because I think in baseball you can't go on the assumption of "if" for a position as key as right field. The only reason I see right field as "key" persay is because its typically a production oriented position. Plus at Everett's age it would be too much of an assumption to assume health. The same can be said about Thomas. It isn't really the age of both, but more so their injury riddled past. Injuries add up, especially when you get up their in age (like both of them are in baseball terms) and they will only effect them more and more. If the Sox enter the start of this year with Everett projected in RF, I'm going to puke.

The Dodgers want to then move Sosa to Colorado for Charles Johnson (horrible contract, terrible player) and Shawn Chacon (bad contract, possibly a solid pitcher) so ya, I think they would. It appears they want Green's contract off their books. 16 million is a lot and the Dodgers have some key free agents. They also are trying to sign Varitek, plus their in hous eguys like Beltre and Gagne. They are also loosing Nomo and Perez plus maybe another starter so they will have some voids to fill their. The Dodgers could definately use the financial flexibility and if taking on one bad contract (everett's, just a 1 yr deal) and giving them a backup catcher as well as sending cash the Sox way would get them rid of Green, I think they'd do it. I don't know if the Sox would. Its kind of like the Cubs, they would be lucky to get much value for Sosa. Sosa's contract is absolutely awful. Its probably the worse in baseball because he isn't Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez, while having a bad contract, performs on the field and does all the little things while also being a great guy. Old Socks
Posts like these remind me how stupid General managers are. Jason, when you become a Gm, will you become so dumb?
Chisoxfn
Posts like these remind me how stupid General managers are. Jason, when you become a Gm, will you become so dumb? I'm sure I'd look really retarded on at least a few trades. But if I ever re-acquired Carl Everett in my tenure as GM, you guys should be scared, since he'd probably be in his 40's or 50's I like playing sofa gm though, its a lot easier. You don't have people screaming down your neck. I can't even imagine how hard it is to be a GM and to come up with plans, knowing that your plans really may not work out since you can't just make trade after trade rigth away, they are things that are build out of relationships and plenty of hours on the phone (Doesn't that sound like something else???). Sosa isn't a superstar anymore... Like Jason said -- a piss poor contract for a piss poor player. Bad defense, bad clubhouse presence, bad contract, worsening at the plate. Chisoxfn
I wouldn't say that...lol Its all good, unless of course you propose dealing both Konerko and Lee in the same trade
