KipWellsFan
Rob Dibble just said that he thinks Contreras can and will win 20 games for the Sox. He also said he thinks all Contreras needs is a good pitching coach to help him. Take it for what its worth but it would be awesome if he does win 20!!! He certainly has the ability and the pitches to win 20.
qwerty
He certainly has the ability and the pitches to win 20. Agreed, but he would haveto be in a severe pitchers park to do so i think. He does not seem to have faith in his stuff which may be one of the reasons he is so damn inconsistent.
thomsonmi
According to rotoworld, the White Sox have designated LHP Ryan Meaux for reassignment bringing our 40 man roster down to 39. Could a move be pending? You may recall that they waived Danny Wright just prior to the trade yesterday.
upnorthsox
The Anaheim Angels agreed to a $5 million, one-year contract with right-hander Paul Byrd on Tuesday, and traded pitcher Ramon Ortiz to the Cincinnati Reds for a minor league pitcher. Byrd, 34, was a 8-7 with a 3.94 ERA in 19 starts for the Atlanta Braves last season. He began the season on the 60-day disabled list recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery and was activated June 19. Byrd has a 60-53 big league record with a 4.33 ERA in 215 games, including 127 starts. He has also pitched for the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals. He gets $500,000 signing bonus and a $4.5 million salary, Ortiz, a 31-year-old right-hander, figures to be a member of the Reds' starting rotation. He was 5-7 with a 4.43 ERA in 34 games -- 14 of them starts -- for the Angels last season.

Chisoxfn
For a one year deal it didn't seem to bad. You pay a little more not to go long term and Byrd is a quality pitcher. He pitched well last season and his numbers should stay in that area, maybe go to 4.00 at the highest if healthy. He's already shown he can pitch in the AL. Chisoxfn
I saw this on an Angels board: Amazega could be a solid pickup, because he can play both positions but he's never done much offensively at the major league leve. I've always liked him, especially defensively. Could be a good depth pickup.

Ya, Cora is a better player then Alfredo. Alfredo is a pretty slick fielding infielder though.

He's 34, and he's been as injury-riddled as they come. Only twice has he sniffed 200 innings. I don't think he should get that much, but then, I've said that about most every starter signed this offseason. None of this bodes well for the Sox getting Clement or Perez. qwerty
The Mariners are believed to be talking to free agents Odalis Perez and Kevin Millwood. Seattle remains likely to add a starter and trade either Ryan Franklin or Gil Meche. Perez has also been contacted by the Red Sox and Marlins among others and has been offered a contract by the Nationals and probably the Dodgers. Dec. 15 - 3:54 am et The Mariners could announce the Richie Sexson contract today if he passes the physical he took on Monday. It's believed there were some concerns about the physical and he'll be asked to take some additional tests. "It's not done yet," one source close to the Mariners told the Post-Intelligencer. DBAHO
Meche is an interesting guy to consider. He was really overworked in 2003, and it showed last season, but he has a really fantastic knuckle curve, and should be a guy to consider possibly if we miss out on Clement or Perez. DBAHO
The latest rumors from ProSportsDaily; Derek Lowe and his demand$; "A free agent, Lowe initially sought a four-year deal worth more than $40 million, but he seems more likely to land a three-year contract valued at closer to $24 million from one of several teams that have expressed interest, including the Tigers and Orioles." Mark Redman could be had in a trade; "The Kendall trade might go down as one of Littlefield's best, although there's still work to be done with it. For example, yes, Littlefield might trade Lawton -- or, more likely Redman -- before August, and that will mean more return from the original Kendall trade." Anaheim to meet with Clement's agent today; (GM Bill Stoneman) is expected to meet today with Barry Axelrod, the agent for free-agent right-hander Matt Clement." If the Angels don't land Clement, it's possible they would re-enter the bidding for Diamondback ace Randy Johnson, offering a package led by Washburn and perhaps first-base prospect Casey Kotchman for the 6-foot-10 left-hander." YASNY
There was a time when the Diamondbacks would have greatly benefited from the Mets getting Pedro Martinez. A day when George Steinbrenner would have ordered his people to surrender the farm in order to top the Mets by trading for Randy Johnson. However, The Boss hardly reacted to Martinez' joining the Mets, a move baseball executives believe Steinbrenner had a hand in. I wonder if Steinbrenner's hand happened to be holding a fistful of cash.

Chisoxfn
Sosa would put up great numbers in Baltimore, but thats not a good deal payroll wise. The Cubs must be picking up a hell of a lot of Sosa's contract if that were to happen. Be an amazing deal for the Cubs.
