southsider2k5
I'm terrfied Lee's name will be brought up. There is no way on God's green earth you could pass of Carlos Lee as a ML RFer. He has worked hard in LF, but the fact remains he still has zero arm. The cut off man still has to get 1/3 of the way in the OF for him to make a solid throw. DBAHO
I'm terrfied Lee's name will be brought up. With Geoff Jenkins making about $8 million in 2005, I can't see the Brewers adding another big contract outfielder to their team. Now Everett who only makes $4 mill, they could have some interest in, for the right price.

Who said anything about Carlos playing RF? EDIT: Oh! I see now. I was generally referring to not wanting Lee's name brought up in the winter meetings. Not specifiaclly to the Brewers for RF. Sorry. DBAHO
Nationals still chasing Perez; The attention now has shifted to Perez, who went 7-6 with a 3.25 ERA in 31 starts last season and was offered salary arbitration this week by the Dodgers. The Nationals, though, may not be able to afford a pitcher who based on this week's other signings is likely to command at least $6 million a year. "We are pursuing Odalis Perez," Bowden said. "Whether or not we'll be able to afford him or get him to want to come to Washington, that's what we're working on."
beck72
I'm terrfied Lee's name will be brought up. I wouldn't be at all. Lee could bring an impact player [or a few good players] in return. PK probably will only bring a good player at best.
Punch and Judy Garland
Bowden is like floating above the radar like Kid Icharus on this one. I remember the good old days when someone else was like that.....

His $4 mill contract isn't that bad compared to what other guys want. Put a young arm or a prospect in a deal w/ Carl, and a lower market team has a big bat and a cheap player who can fill a spot on their 25 man roster. Steff
QUOTE CBS-4 in Boston is reporting that Pedro Martinez and the Red Sox will finalize a three-year, $40 million contract within the next 24-48 hours. It's still a rumor at this point, but ESPN's Peter Gammons is also reporting that the deal is close. Dec. 9 - 11:38 pm et Supposedly they are rumored to be offering him some sick incentives (private plane, separate road accomidations..). The Sox definitely can't come close to a deal like that.. Steff
I've heard that Pavano cancelled the meeting with the Angels. He did.
Steff
My dad mentioned to me that the Angels are sleepers in the whole thing. I guess if Pavano goes elsewhere they will quickly enter the fray. Not sure how valid it is, cause despite other reports from what I heard Pavano would love to play in Anaheim and the feelings are mutual (ie the Angels are gonna make a very lucrative offer when they meet). If anyone is the "sleeper" in the Pavano race.. it's Baltimore.
DBAHO
If anyone is the "sleeper" in the Pavano race.. it's Baltimore. That doesn't suprise me. It looks like now since they'll miss out on Hudson, who's most likely headed to the Braves, that they'll go after Pavano, since they are also not negotiating with Bora$$ clients as well I believe, which puts them out of the race for Maggs. beck72
From Ben Maller "Braves general manager John Schuerholz might need to trade centerfielder Andruw Jones, shortstop Rafael Furcal or second baseman Marcus Giles to make ends meet" [The link was from philly.com but I couldn't get it] Could ATL be a trading partner? Furcal or Marcus Giles would be nice [though don't know how much Giles will make]. They need a SP, Garland. LOL I'll take a ballpark figure anyday, thanks. Giles' contract doesn't seem like a big deal. Though the A's would love that salary. I heard about Hudson for Giles and a top ATL pitching prospect. ATL needs SP's. Maybe Garland? He sounds exactly like a Leo Mazzone special for a decent price. Giles avg and OBP for the top of the lineup would be nice
AddisonStSox
Beane wants a young starting pitcher and a two-bagger. He went on record with that. Sorry, I don't have a link. If your Beane, do you want Giles and a top-prospect from the Bravos. Or... Do you want Jon Garland and Harris/some other IF prospect. Its really going to come down to who he likes more. Contracts seem to be a wash.

SoxFan562004
the national ESPN radio update is saying Finley to Angels is all but done 2 years about 15-16m Adding to that either Stark or Gammons is saying the Yankees may go crazy to sign Beltran (maybe why the Angels shyed away) to make up for the Giambi fallout. Also said Astros will go far to resign him and the Orioles could be a quiet team. I know Stark said the Cubs can't think about Beltran unless Sammy is moved

This is not a move that excites me. 10 mill a year is too much for Finley. His average and strikeouts aren't something to brag about. As an Angel fan I think they are going the wrong direction yet again. They should be focusing on pitching and a middle infielder/Beltran.
