YASNY
Agree, it would be a very foolish move by kenny, and the little respect i have left for kenny would vanish. If they do this, they damn sure better make him pass a hellacious physical. Something like ... throw this ball though that wall!
DBAHO
Renteria news; According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals and Edgar Renteria are $8 million apart. The Cards are stuck at $32 million over four years. Renteria wants $40 million. If he's willing to accept a shorter deal, the Red Sox could give him the $10 million per year he desires. The Tigers and Angels also seem prepared to make him offers. If the Cardinals can't re-sign Renteria -- and GM Walt Jocketty is starting to run out of patience -- it's likely they'll make a run at Orlando Cabrera. santo=dorf
Get in the game Kenny and JR! This one's (Renteria) worth paying for! Boston is willing to go as high as 4 years $40 million, and you want the Sox to get involved? We don't have that much more money to spend. DBAHO
Another Japanese Player on the radar; Both the Dodgers and the Mariners will have scouts watching third baseman Norihiro Nakamura's workout in Anaheim today. The Indians also sent a representative. Nakamura, a seven-time All-Star in Japan, is being posted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes. Dec. 11 - 3:52 am et He's 31 years old and can field at first, third and short. He hit 39 HR's in 2000, 46 HR's in 2001 and 42 HR's in 2002. DBAHO
And some Dave Roberts news; The Giants and Red Sox have had conversations about Dave Roberts, who could take over San Francisco's primary center fielder. He's hardly a "Moneyball" player, but Marquis Grissom would make sense for Boston as a right fielder against left-handers and a backup for Johnny Damon. The problem is that he's more expensive than Roberts and not really any better of a player. The Giants may not be interested in giving him up anyway, since they'd like to use him in right field if they can acquire a center fielder. DBAHO
Where did you hear that? They only want a stop gate from everything i have heard. Yeah no way will the Red Sox offer him a 4 year deal with Hanley Ramirez scheduled to be the major league SS in 2006. I think the Angels will jump in for him now possibly, since they still have money to spend.
DBAHO
What he do the last two year then? 23 HR's in 2003 from 117 games and 19 HR's in 2004 from only 105 games. His OBP and SLG have dropped off significantly in the past few seasons. He's the not the Japanes guy I want, (Daisuke Matsuzaka) but unfortunately I'm going to have to wait another year for that scenario.

santo=dorf
The Pirates and Indians are close to finalizing a Matt Lawton-for-Arthur Rhodes trade, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Indians GM Mark Shapiro must have been bluffing. The trade would make a lot of sense if the Indians are truly interested in keeping Ronnie Belliard. Moving Lawton would open up left field for Casey Blake Good riddance. I'm looking forward to potentially facing Arthur "Rocky" Rhodes 19 times next year. Eight at the very most, the ten he wants is pretty damn steep in my opinion.
DBAHO
Another Pavano rumor; An official close to the talks told the Newark Star-Ledger that the Yankees and Carl Pavano were near an agreement on a four-year, $42 million contract. We'll see. It wouldn't be surprising if this ends up at five years before all is said and done. The Tigers are already there. santo=dorf
Another Pavano rumor; Detroit is so desperate to sign a free agent. I wished Juan Gonzalez would've accepted their 7 year $140 million deal back in 2000, then they would've really been f***ed. I see that they also declined Matt Anderson's $6.25 Million option. DBAHO
Welcome Home Billy, Welcome Home. :rolly The Blue Jays are close to bringing free agent Billy Koch back to Toronto. qwerty
According to the New York Daily News, the A's were turned down by the Phillies on an offer of Tim Hudson for Chase Utley and Ryan Madson. It might have been a good deal for 2005, but the Phillies will control both Utley and Madson for five more years. It's not hard to see why they didn't want to do it. DBAHO
Willie Harris and a stud pitching prospect like B-Mac perhaps could do the trick? It's hard not to see Beane being interested in Lee though, maybe Byrnes could be included as well. But damn Philly would hav had a great rotation if they did that deal. YASNY
The Phillies just got burned by the Millwood deal, and that only cost them one stud prospect. They have to be gun shy after that.
YASNY
The Red Sox last night also were talking about a deal with the Padres in which they would send outfielder Dave Roberts to San Diego for shortstop Ramon Vazquez and outfielder Jay Payton. The Sox also were making a run at free agent shortstop Edgar Renteria, who earlier this week was offered salary arbitration by the St. Louis Cardinals." It appears the Yankees have bested the Red Sox in the first offseason fight. According to multiple sources, Carl Pavano and the Yankees are drawing very close to getting a four-year deal worth about $42 million done. White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams covets Yankees starter Javier Vazquez, and the White Sox could send the slugging outfielder Carlos Lee to Arizona in a three-way trade that would send Johnson to New York
Xero
Dave Roberts for Ramon Vasquez and Jay Payton? I thouth Payton hit like .280 this year? Edited December 11, 2004 by KnuckleSox1
DBAHO
Dave Roberts for Ramon Vasquez and Jay Payton? I thouth Payton hit like .280 this year? I guess the Padres want a leadoff hitter real bad, since they don't want Sean Burroughs to do the job again. And they'd save a little salary on the deal too I presume. YASNY
The Washington Nationals made what interim general manager Jim Bowden described as a last-ditch effort to sign free agent left-hander Odalis Perez late Friday night... A trade for Colorado's Shawn Chacon remains a possibility, and a baseball source said the Nationals were moving in on righty Esteban Loaiza, whose 21-win season in 2003 with the Chicago White Sox seems eons ago." The Tigers now appear interested in signing Corey Koskie, who has played third base for the Twins for the past five seasons... Rumbles circulated at the meetings that the Tigers had increased their offer to Pavano from four to five years."
DBAHO
Nationals not confident on Perez now; "We'll meet one more time, but I'm not optimistic," interim general manager Jim Bowden said earlier as the baseball winter meetings officially began. The Nationals thought they had a chance to land Perez, who went 7-6 with a 3.25 ERA in 31 starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. The current inflated state of the pitching market, though, likely has pushed the left-hander out of their price range. Perez made $5 million last year and figures to command a new deal just shy of those already signed by other top free-agent pitchers. The Mets gave Kris Benson a three-year, $22.5 million contract, Jaret Wright (Yankees) and Jon Lieber (Phillies) each got three years and $21 million and the Diamondbacks yesterday signed Russ Ortiz to a four-year deal worth about $33 million. beck72
Willie Harris and a stud pitching prospect like B-Mac perhaps could do the trick? I kind of agree. Edwin Jackson had a horrible yr in AAA. A 5.86 ERA, in 90 2/3 IP, 55 BB's and 70 K's. BMac had a combined era of 3.00, in 180 IP, 202 k's, 30 BB's. Both are only 21. Though Cora is better than Harris, the sox with a Bmac/ Harris deal isn't bad
