Chisoxmatt
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Twins signed former Tiger Eric Munson. http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3329238 They offered him a minor league contract and since he sucked last year he will probably be in AAA most of the year. qwerty
Osuna>cotts, adkins, diaz, grilli, etc. The Nationals are talking to free agent Antonio Osuna about a minor league contract. Osuna is a better pitcher than half the relievers getting major league deals, but only when he's healthy. Since he is a better bet to last 60 innings than Chad Fox or Matt Mantei, he'd be a nice signing. Jan. 17 - 3:45 am et

JUGGERNAUT
This is no longer a rumor. Soriano signed with Texas for 7.5M/1yr. They continue to work on a multi-year deal.

Plus we only have room for one or two more bullpen guys in our pen. Take a look at Adkins' numbers last year. He was fine until Ozzie started overusing him in late August and September. JUGGERNAUT
Turmoil in Twinkieland: http://www.startribune.com/stories/509/5191284.html Johan Santana, Kyle Lohse and Carlos Silva are all unsigned. The Twins will now go to arbitration with all 3 players. If all 3 should win arbitration (at least 2 should) I do not know if the Twinks can afford all of them. This may force the Twins to trade more players. For those who didn't know today is the last day a team can avoid arbitration with type B players. Those are the one's with less than 6 yrs worth of MLB ab's, starts, or appearances. Those arbitration amounts are then decided by Feb 1. santo=dorf
I think if they have to dump someone, it will probably be Jacque "strap" Jones.

He'll probably be out all season, if he was actually healthy this would have been a good pick up for the cubs but he's not, so........ Dick Allen
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) If there is no option for 2006 this is a really stupid deal. This reminds me of when Hendry gave Mike Sirotka $900,000 to make a few starts in Des Moines. Very curious move if there is no 2006 team option. qwerty
With seven other teams interested, the Nationals are now trying to sign Antonio Osuna to a guaranteed one-year contract. Osuna apparently isn't going to settle for a minor league contract. He shouldn't need to. Jan. 19 - 2:45 am et
YASNY
Hendry also took a minor gamble Tuesday on reliever Scott Williamson, signing the 28-year-old right-hander to a minor-league deal for the minimum salary of $316,000, or $500,000 if he's called up. Williamson, who came up with Cincinnati and pitched in Boston last season, underwent elbow surgery in October and isn't expected back until at least August. The Cubs also hold an option on Williamson for 2006. Not a bad signing by the Cubs. It's similar to what the Yankees ( and I wanted the Sox to do) did with Jon Leiber. JUGGERNAUT
All total the Twinkies are about 2.7M apart w Lohse, Silva, & Santana. Santana accounting for 1.8M. I think they'll just eat that cost & keep the team intact. Probably their best bargain is Silva where they are only about 600K apart. SouthPaw
Got this from the CBSSportsline.com rumor mill: Chicago Cubs Until and unless they trade Sammy Sosa, the Chicago Sun-Times says the Cubs will not get interested in Magglio Ordonez. The Cubs have not asked for Ordonez's medical records and appear to be happy with the left field combination of Todd Hollandsworth and Jason Dubois. It would be great if the sCrUBS get stuck with Sammy and miss out on Maggs....I really don't want to see Magglio in a sCrUBS uniform. Also, it says they saw his medical records and would rather have the combo of Hollandsworth and Dubois. That brings up the question....how bad is Magglio's knee? DBAHO
With the Mets looking like they'll hang onto Mike Cameron, or end up trading for Eric Byrnes, the only 3 teams I could possibly see still being interested in Maggs are the Orioles, Rangers and Tigers. I think he would have a pretty good chance to win there. I find it hard to believe they won't sign anybody. Even if they miss out on Delgado, they may still try to offload Soriano to the Astros for some good young arms, and use the money they saved on an 1 year incentive laden deal for Ordonez. Punch and Judy Garland
Look out for the marlins as a sleeper team on Maggs. If they don't end up with delgado, I could see them benching or turfing encarnacion in favor of maggs. They saw a hole in the market two years ago with Pudge, maybe they will see one now with magglio. I year 8-10 sounds about right.
