qwerty
We have a chance to be ahead of the twins at the start of the year. Brad Radke, not Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana, will be the Twins' Opening Day starter, manager Ron Gardenhire announced. Santana took the news in stride, but this is just another case of the Twins holding him back. In 2002, he wasn't even given a chance to win a bullpen spot out of spring training. In 2003, the team wouldn't let him compete for a place in the rotation. When he's been allowed to take the mound, he's been significantly more effective than Radke three years running. Although there's been talk of a three-year deal, we're guessing Santana is going to bolt at the first opportunity. He'll be eligible for free agency after 2006. DBAHO
Man how awesome would it be to sign Santana from the Twinkies. Never going to happen though. Doesn't he have a brother Ervin who pitches in the minors for the Angels, or aren't they related?
JUGGERNAUT
Fan backlash has killed the original 10 player LA deal for RJ & any Mets for Sosa deal. I'm sure it will kill this as well. I do not rule out Santana playing for the Sox. Though it's likely he will be a NYY the Sox are capable of bidding for his services. A LH Cy Young winner is worth the inflated $. JUGGERNAUT
Trade bumps: Katz & the O's have yet to agree upon an '06 salary. Sosa is guaranteed 21.5M w the 4.5M buyout for '06. As fas as the MLBPA is concerned as long as Sosa's net salary is higher than 21.5M over the 2 yrs Sosa is free to negotitate & restructure a new contract. Settling for 10M in '06 would fit that. The O's likewise have expressed a desire to have Farns in the trade. The Tigs & BorASS are clsoe on $. Somewhere betw 11-13M/yr. But far apart on years. The Tigs have offered 5yrs & he wants 7. Unbelievable. All for a guy who has not picked up a bat in 8 months.

Alot of them are two year deals, and assuming Mark Mulder's option for 2006 is picked up, he'll be a free agent too. Frank Dye Hermanson Contreras Garland Hernandez Pierzynski will all be free agents for 2007 (assuming their options don't get picked up.) Probably because the Tiggies haven't offered Maggs a 7 year deal, which is what Bora$$ wants.
qwerty
Johan Santana said the Twins' three-year, $19.5 million contract proposal isn't going to get a deal done. Asked if $25 million over three years would interest him, Santana replied, ''That you would have to think about.'' The two sides may focus on a one-year deal for now and worry about a multiyear pact later. Jan. 30 - 3:21 pm et

qwerty
Ya, sox definitely not signing him. Johan Santana turned down a three-year, $25 million contract offer from the Twins, the Star Tribune reports. A $25 million offer wasn't bad considering that Santana is only due about $6 million in his second year of arbitration. Still, he isn't eager to give up a year of free agency. If he can stay healthy the next two years, he'll probably make at least $15 million-$16 million per season as a free agent. DBAHO
Even if the Twinkies lose Santana, they had a real good draft last season picking up some arms like Glen Perkins who could be ready by the time Santana leaves for the Yankees, Angels, Red Sox etc. Not saying they'll put up Johan like numbers, but they've got some quality young arms in their system. DBAHO
Thank you Captain Obvious, Ken Rosenthal. Not really a rumor, but hey its news; The Brewers' trade for LF Carlos Lee looks like a winner for the club, even if it cost them a valued reliever, RHP Luis Vizcaino. Lee, 28, is three months younger than OF Scott Podsednik, the other player who went to the White Sox. Brady Clark, the Brewers' new center fielder, ranked 13th in the National League with a .415 on-base percentage after the All-Star break. His .385 OBP for the season was 72 points higher than Podsednik's, though he had nearly 300 fewer plate appearances. . . .
