Please stay away from him Kenny, Please!

This would be money down the drain.  Prioritize Kendall.  Fill the rotation.  Get some bullpen help.

Not signing Vizquel was a blessing in disguise, please don't blow it.

I agree! If Guzman's market totally drops I would be OK with him coming here, but wouldn't be thrilled for the 5m a year. Not signing Vizquel, at least giving him 3 years, was a blessing, let's hope KW can realize this!

The Sox do need a SS. Yet getting an OBP is their biggest need on offense. That's why getting Jason Kendall [or another top leadoff guy] is more important than filling this spot.

I have to agree, getting a # 1 hitter who can get on base is the biggest need next to a SP

guzman is a bad choice, let spend the cash and go after Renteria :lolhitting ..

Actually I think he's well worth the 5 Mil.

Solid defense and he still has potential.

Where is this potential you see?

I see a guy that has played in 840 games in his career and has 3277 career at bats. If he hasn't reached his potential by now, then he never will.

I don't care that he's young...he's a major league veteran, and he will not improve very much, if at all.

If the Sox give Guzman $5 mill a year, they are making the biggest mistake of the offseason.

Plus at least he has a reason to keep playing at a high level instead of Vizquel who would of went right back to past 3 years form of being lazy and inconsistant.

Yeah except that he doesn't have a World Series ring yet, so there goes that argument.

Vizquel lazy? I find it hilarious that you want Guzman for tha tmoney, but didn't want to pick up Vizquel at all? Sorry, but that just shows your lack of knowledge. Vizquel is anything BUT lazy.

So explain why his only good year in the last 4 was his contract year...

Actually 2002 was a pretty solid year. 2003 he was hurt and played less than half a season. 2001 was indeed a bad year.

If he was lazy and so inconsistent, why are Cleveland fans so sad to see him go?

Omar has a top notch reputation for being a hard worker, a positive influence on a club and one that will work with and help younger players. He handles the bat very well, makes contact and still plays excellent defense.

That is why the Sox wanted him and why the Giants outbid them for him. If you want to look at numbers and make judgements on a player's character, then go right ahead. But that just shows how little you know about the real world.

Whew...that was close.

I don't understand why everyone hates this guy so much. is it that he was a minny player and your jealous?

Personally, he's not my first choice to be on the Sox, but Visquel is gone. I think Guzman is best on turf, but it won't be that big of a difference. Granted his OBP is just plane terrible, but uribe's isn't anything great either. he's a nice fielder. He can steal some bases, and I just feel he could be a good player on the Southside. I wouldn't overpay for him though.

Difference between uribe and guzman is more than 3 million dollars per year. Uribe also has some nice power number. One thing he really needs to improve on is baserunning. He was terrible last year. Had to be the worst base runner on the sox last year and that is saying something.

No, it's because I have seen Guzman for quite a few years, and I want no piece of him, and, quite frankly, the numbers support my argument.

He gets lazy defensively, can't draw a walk, and he has benefitted greatly from playing on turf. You can see those in numbers too(and if you want those numbers, check out Cheat's blog...I'm too lazy to look them up)
