AddisonStSox
This award went to the right guy. Congrats Vlad, you carried that team on your back the last couple weeks of the season!
Texsox
Damn, I thought Valentin had a chance for his "locker room presence" and "veteran attitude"
SoxAce
I called this back in Febuary. I'll pat myself on the back now.
redandwhite
If defense wasn't considered as much, which I don't think it should be, Ortiz and/or Manny were the hands down winners. Congrats Vlad. Your an excellent ballplayer, and that doesn't upset me, but what does upset me is how Sheffield finished ahead of both Manny and Ortiz. Can someone explain that? WHarris1
Why should defense not be considered? Is defense not valuable to a team? I agree about Sheff being in 2nd though.

Just for the record, I think vlad's a very overrated defender. Because of that cannon he has people think he's an outstanding defender, which he's not. I think defense should be considered thats not what I am saying, I just think it was considered to much in the AL MVP's case. I mean, its not like Manny Ramirez lost games with his defense and its not like Vladimir Guerrero won games with his. Vlad won the award on defense alone or atleast that is how ESPN and other various sports sites are portraying it and not how he had an excellent September when Glaus and Anderson were nowhere to be found and not how he had just an excellent season when all the teams in the offseason were crying bad back. Vlad deserved it, I admit.

redandwhite
1.Vlad 2.Ortiz 3.Sheff 4.Manny And Defense is a HUGE part of the game, I dont know why it shouldnt be play a big part in the voting. Vlads CANNON in RF made him valuable to the Angles....hence more consideration for the MVP........... How on earth is Sheffield ahead of Manny... Rowand44
I dont really think he is overrated. Everyone knows his back problems he has, and he hasnt been very mobile, or as mobile since. And when I think of great defensive players, Vlad doesnt really come to mind. His arm defenilty is valuable, and makes up for some of his lack of mobility in the OF. Well maybe it's just people who I talk to then tony. A ton of people I talk to all claim how great a defender vlad is, I think to these people his arm just overshadows everything else. The problem could also be the majority of the people I talk with in person are flubs fans.
redandwhite
Actaully looking at it Manny is ahead of Sheff, just flip flop the two. Ortiz IMO is still ahead of Manny, but Shef should be in 4th. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Good decision.
Chisoxfn
I'll tell you one thing. Vladdy is s*** defensively. The only thing he has is his arm and as many runs as he saves with it, he gives up by trying to show of his arm and miss the cutoff man. southsider2k5
No question, its just hard to fathom for me. Yeah, I guess I am the only one who would have voted for Ortiz. Nothing against Vlad, because he is incredible, but Ortiz was just incredible.
Spiff
Manny wins the Hank Aaron award, and the Silver Slugger, but not the MVP. Alright. I guess those two weeks put Vlad over the top but I don't know if I agree with it.

Red&White, the only reason I can think of how Sheff finished above Ortiz and Ramirez is probably because Ortiz took votes from Ramirez, and vice versa. If only one of those two is going up for MVP, IMHO, one of the two wins the MVP. But congrats to Vladdy for winning the MVP. EDIT: Stupid me, I see SS2k already said this. My bad. :banghead
Chisoxfn
Yeah, I guess I am the only one who would have voted for Ortiz. Nothing against Vlad, because he is incredible, but Ortiz was just incredible. Personally I won't vote for a DH when Vladdy single-handedly carried his team in both the first month (although he had Guillens help in April) and then the final couple weeks of the season. santo=dorf
Vlad also carried the Angels from April-June. He had to make up for the losses of Glaus, Anderson, and Tim Salmon. Konerko also got 7 points.
