Guzman Signs with Washington

Hell, getting just Polanco would be fine with me.

Get me one -- just one consistant hitter at the top of the lineup, because we know we have a pretty solid player in Rowand who'd probably be able to fill in the two spot.

Then, just load up on the bullpen and rotation.

Ideally, I'd do something along the lines of...

Trading Konerko to a team (haven't quite thought this out yet... ) for a solid reliever, one solid position player, and a prospect (get the best deal that you possibly can for PK). Sign Dye to play RF.

Then, you have:

-Polanco

-Rowand

-Thomas

-Lee

-Dye

-Gload

-Uribe

-Harris/Crede (Depending on the hot bat, lefty righty matchup -- Polanco plays the opposite position, then.)

-Davis/Burke

Bench of Everett, Valdez, Perez, and whoever isn't playing in the platoon's above.

With a rotation of Buehrle, Garcia, (Player traded for/signed), Contreras, Garland. In the bullpen, you have Cotts, Adkins, and Diaz/Baj doing the long relief/mopup stuff (Cotts should have a more important role this year, though), Politte/Marte/Reliever traded for doing the sixth/seventh/eighth, to Shingo.

The team still lacks the one 'dominant' starter, but it's still solid. You have an improved bullpen, an improved, bit more consistent (IMHO) lineup, and still a pretty solid rotation.

Sorry, I wanted to make one of my 'dream' lineup posts in one of these threads, but I apologize about the length.

Ugh.. too right-handed and where's Everett? I highly doubt we'll have all that money riding the bench if thats what your implying. Remember, we don't know if Frank is going to be 100% come the start of the season. I would like to see us get another lefty bat to balence out the line-up.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I know what you're saying.

Me putting Dye in there is probably a dream. Realistically, I think we see an '05 outfield of Lee-Rowand-Everett - I'd like to see Dye here, I think he'd do some major damage here at the Cell, especially if we could get him at under five million...

If Everett's comittment/offseason work ethic is good enough where we don't need to get a replacement, then I'll be totally OK with him in RF -- pretty good power, draws walks, solid player.

Just wondering though, SoxAce. Say there was a scenario in which we got both Polanco and Kendall. We'd put those two at the top of the order -- so we'd still have the first five hitters being right handed (Kendall-Polanco-Thomas-Lee-Rowand) -- would you be OK with that?

I know i would, any time you can have five guys who can give you obp's over .350 and two of the five will be very close to .400 if not over, you have one of the best offenses in the game.

Oh yea, even though I doubt Rowand would be in the 5 hole. I wouldn't mind that line-up but I still would like to see a lefty in between El Caballo and Crash for a right-handed pitcher or even a southpaw. But no those guys I don't mind at all.

Take that back qwerty   :crying .  I agree with you, if the sox were to get Jason and polanco, there wouldn't be enough money to aquire either of those pitchers.

how is that? Polanco should cost the same or less than Valentin last year. Konerko would go to Pitt in the trade for Kendall and we still have Magg's salary to play with. In my estimation we are still 10 mill ahead of the game and that is without uping last years payroll. I am sure we would be able to get either RJ or Pavano.

Neither want to come here. That is a good reason for believing that neither will come here. How do we have ten million to play with? Contreras and garcia take up ordonez's salary.

Are you sure Polanco is an everyday player?

What about that Trib writer that said "settle for Polanco."

I'm not trying to be a dick about this.

I'm just wondering if he's good enough.

We go from a ss with 30 plus homers to Polanco.

What in his stats make you all love Polanco.

Why do baseball people not gush about him as you all

are doing?

Just asking. Not flaming.

Maybe I like Guzman cause he's part of that winning

team. We need some winners.

He has had over 500 at-bats 3 times in his career and another year with 492. He can very easily start no reason to believe otherwise. Secondly tribune writers don't know what the f*** they are talking about. Also i could care less if he hit 1 homerun as long as he helps us win. More than likely he will hit 15-20 here and may even surprise us with around 25. Seems like with age he is developing more power and our park will help him even more. Nothing about his stats jump out at you but they are solid all across the board.

We may as well just accept Jurassic in RF. Stop and think if you ran the team (I know we wouldn;t have traded back for him-but i digress) you know that you'd have to play him. He makes $4 mil and he was a pretty good offensive player just one year ago. I think he can get back to an acceptable level.

There's no single thing that Polanco does spectacularly. His defense is probably his best single asset, but gold gloves tend to be awarded for offensive prowess more often than not... How else do you explain Derek Jeter and Jeff Kent winning...

Polanco is, by all accounts, a great teammate who can play 1 position at GG level(2B), a second above average(3B), and a third adequately(probably still better than Guzman, SS).

He has never NOT hit, although he does tend to be a slow starter. He brings a skill set that includes being a good bunter, and ideal #2 hitter, yet he's willing to lead off if that's what's asked of him. He has come into his own offensively upon arriving in philly in the Rolen trade.

Looking at the park Factors for Citizens Bank, I would expect him to hit touch about 20 HR's in the Cell, and increase his doubles slightly, as CB is a terrible doubles park.

He's not a super star, by any means, but he's exactly the type of player who KW and Ozzie should be looking at.

Well I believe he was born in Paducah, KY which is nearly Illinois and he played four years in Illinois, but its semantics we're arguing really. He is reportedly willing to play in Philly this season so I don;t know if its just the West coast thing as it was in July. He sold his AZ home so I think he'd be willing to play elsewhere as long as we're a contender. Were we to trade for the Unit, we'd be in a great position to nab Finley.

I KNOW for a fact that Finley played his high school ball in Paducah. 365 miles due south of USCF.

If the Cubs signed Polanco, the Trib would talking about a WS appearance because of it. Disregard anything that rag says about the Sox, when it comes to opinions.

Polanco is exactly the type of ballplayer this team needs and would be a perfect fit. He's a smart, quality all-around good ballplayer. Not great, but very very solid in all aspects of the game that you'd expect out of a 2B. Not sure about his abilities at short, probably lacking there or he wouldn't have gone the whole season not playing there. That's the only area that concerns me with Polanco. If Uribe gets hurt, who plays SS?

At the moment it would be Wilson Valdez. It'll be interesting to see if he's back in Charlotte when the 2005 season starts, a big spring training could help his chances of getting on the bench.

In his career he has maede 8 errors at short in 776 innings. I am afraid is we do not sign a short stop or polanco valdez would be the back-up. :headshake

Our organization continues to be a joke.

If we were the other team for Guzman and couldn't beat

out Washington, what a joke.

I hope you folks are right about Polanco.

How could you not want Guzman over Polanco??

The question isn't if we could have bid more than Washington, the question is why would you want to
