DBAHO
For 3-4 mill a year...HECK YA. After seeing what Guzman got today, I don't think that'll be possible unfortuantely. I see him gettin $5-6 mill from some team either us or St. Louis.

Yoda
Like many, I don’t have a problem with Polanco but if we do sign him where in our lineup would he be most suitable at? He had only 7 stolen bases this past season. Only 7. Harris had 19 or something like that. Now I’m not saying Willie is better than him but will Polanco be a good #1 or #2 hitter even though he wont steal more than 20+ bags? Hatchetman
he'd be a perfect #2 behind a basestealing leadoff man...taking pitches, hitting the other way, etc. unfortunately we don't have that.
farmteam
Yeah, I think he'd be a good 'under the radar' signing...the type where it's not very hyped, but nonetheless solid signing.

Chisoxfn
I still say I have no problem with keeping this offense the same, signing a FA pitcher, maybe signing a guy like Jermaine Dye, and adding a reliever. I just don't know if the Sox can do all that without making a trade (ie moving some payroll). However, I don't think our offense or leadoff spot is as bad as Kenny thinks it is. It is far from great, but the rest of the offense can make up for it and I have belief in Harris/Uribe with one leading off and the other near the back of the order with Rowand sticking in the 2 slot. However, I would also have no problem moving Konerko and adding Kendall and Polanco to the top of the lineup. That gives the Sox a legit top of the order while losing a power bat, but you have Gload to step in. Plus the Sox have EVerett as a backup plan eventually while adding Dye or Hildalgo at an affordable deal. Once again Sox still need to find a pitcher, but even if the Sox don't add a pitcher and do that, they should have the offense to compete and 4 starters that will keep the Sox in the games. Maybe they just look to Elo as a #5 or something cheap and if the Sox are in it go agressive for RJ or whoever. All I'm saying is their are still a ton of different ways Kenny can look at things. whitesox91403
All I'm saying is their are still a ton of different ways Kenny can look at things. I agree. It's a long offseason. I don't think losing out on Vizqueal and Guzman take KW out of what he has in mind for this team. A big trade is coming and so is probably Russ Ortiz. I guess we need to be patient. After all, it wasn't until January a couple of years ago that KW made The Colon deal and signed Flash Gordon.
qwerty
However, I don't think our offense or leadoff spot is as bad as Kenny thinks it is. I do, willie and rowand are not exactly lead-offs hitters. Willie may have the potential one day but not this year. He should be batting ninth next year at the very best. Neither can bunt, although rowand is a pretty efficient base stealer.

Rowand may not be the best bunter, but you ask him to bunt next year and tell him now and he'll work his ass of and turn into a good bunter. He may not walk as mcuh as you'd like but he's improving as a contact hitter (he still strikes out a little more then you'd like as a 2 hole hitter) but he has great power for a two hole spot and is a doubles machine. Plus he's a very good baserunner and as a whole would have a high OBP/AVERAGE, run production numbers from the 2 hole. As far as Willie goes, he has a good eye, good speed and a decent swing. He just lacks confidence and agressiveness at the plate (agressiveness in meaning actually ripping the ball) and I do think he can be pretty productive. Of cousre like I've said, Kendall would look really good too.

I have said it before i think he will develope into a 3 hole hitter sooner rather than later. May not happen but i think he has the potential to. CWSGuy406
Speaking on a bit of an off note, fore a second... When I got home, and logged on to Soxtalk, and saw the thread, "Guzman Signs with Washington", I had just a thrill of excitement run up and down me. Don't ask why, I just really did not want this team giving five million to a guy who had a sub-.310 OBP last year. Now, here's to hoping Polanco is a White Sock by next week... Trust me that was the same feeling I had when I saw it scroll on ESPN News while waiting for Rob Neyer to come on. I was scared those news reports would be right (although in my mind I thought Kenny couldn't be that foolish).
Guest hawaiisoxfn
Hes better than Willie Harris. Actually, Polanco is a lot better than most middle infielders. Id be glad to have him here!

bulokis
I dont mind Polanco, hope we dont overpay for him though. Polanco seems to be the best option for us to do. But if we lose out on him Id say get Walker or Womack.
striker
I say get Polanco and try to get Vazquez or Brown and Lofton from the Yankees, then get Kendall (don't ask me how, it's not important right now). CF Lofton CA Kendall LF Lee DH Thomas 1B Gload RF Rowand 2B Polanco SS Uribe 3B Crede We wouldn't get our 200 homers again but alog of good hitters. Just 2 lefties though. SP Garcia SP Buerhle SP Vazquez SP Contreras SP Grilli
