Dam evil thats a lot of 600 series...what's your average?  I always shoot for a 600, but rarely get it...I'm too inconsistent.  I shot a 625 last week though.  My average has stayed right around 180 all year

My best game goes like so:

8 X X X X X X X X X X 9 = 277

Here's some video clips to help some things wite was trying to explain.

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/k...kVideo.htm#Ball

On the 2 leagues I am on, my averages are 184 and 185, both up about 10 pins from last year. I started the year on a bad roll having a 165 average after the 6th week, then got up to the 180's. The last 2 months or so I have just been on a roll. Stringing the strikes together is what makes the difference. I am also inconsistant, or I would get that 300.

Need to bump.

Just thought I'd mention that I threw another 300...lol

This time it was sanctioned, so I will get a ring for it...which is pretty sweet.

EDIT:  Also, if you wanna see a (bad) pic of me...check out this site, and click on Jr. Bowler of the Week

Let me know what kind of award you get. I got my first (and only) 300 game when I was 15 but I didn't get a single thing for it. I don't think jr. bowlers are allowed to receive 300 rings because of the monetary value. At least that's what I was told. I was also told that since I rolled mine on the first day of the bowling season that I didn't have an established average and that had something to do with it.

:huh Needless to say, I couldn't carry the 232 average I ended up with.

You're next goal should be a 700 and/or 800 series. I once missed a 300 game by missing the 11th strike and then ended up with a 793 series. That really sucked...

IIRC, sanction rules changed in 1997 to allow Jr's to get rings. But it being your first game and not having an established HCP, and likely not being sanctioned (I think you have to have rolled 12 games to be sanctioned...??) that's probably why you didn't get one also.

1997? That figures...

I was told that I need an established average for whatever reason. I don't know that HCP has much to do with it. There have been a number of times where I have a 0 for HCP because my average is over 200.

I've always understood that you are sanctioned as soon as you pay your yearly dues.

My only solution is that I just have to do it again. Only probem is that I haven't bowled in about 3 years...

I think you are right.. I think I'm getting that and what qualifies a sub to bowl in a position round mixed up.

I am pretty sure I will end up getting a ring for it, but it will likely take a while.

The fact that you didn't get anything for yours would really suck...just because it is the first day of league really seems like it should mean nothing. The fact is you bowled a 300, you bowled it during a league, and you said that you had paid your yearly dues, so to me, that seems sanctioned...but I suppose with the rule change and all, that would make sense.

My next goal is most definately a 700...that is the only thing my dad still has the upper hand in. I have never gotten a 700 series, which really sucks...the closest I have gotten is about 686 or so, so I am still a few pins away even then.

And 793...I couldn't imagine that. I have a friend on my scratch team...quite possibly a top 3 junior bowler in North Dakota...who has shot like 4 or 5 299's...and after one of them, I went up to him, gave him a 5 and said good score...because it is not a good game. That is about the same way I would describe a 793...that is a good score, but is not a good series, especially since you were that close.

Just wondering, do you remember what you left on your 11th ball?

Also...I am pretty inconsistent as well...I just tend to maintain strings to start off games really well, for some reason. I have shot 2 300's, as I said, and I have also started with the first 8, 7, and 6 too. The game before my first 300 was a 146, and the game after my 2nd was a 171. And within the past month or so, during our scratch practice, I shot a 4 game series under 600...which is major ouchies. :crying

Well, I did get a little plaque from the bowling alley, a patch and my name in the paper. I was always told that as a junior bowler I couldn't receive anything of monetary value. I couldn't enter any tourneys where I could win money or even moonlight bowl. There was one time I couldn't even enter a turkey shoot.

I honestly cannot remember exactly what I left on my 11th ball. I want to say it was an 8 count but I don't remember which pins. I got a little too much hook and it just went right for the headpin. What's funny is that my wife (who was bowling with me) didnt' even realize what was happening until the 10th frame.

I seem to be the opposite as you. I'll get opens or spares for the first 3 or 4 frames, finally figure out what I'm doing wrong and then strike out. One time when I was at a practice for my high school team I got a spare in the first frame and then 11 strikes in a row. That was pretty fun. :D

How long have you been bowling BTW?

LOL, I would maybe be good enough for the PBA if I were more consistent...an 1883 for 9 is decent, but you gotta bowl around 20-40 games a week on the PBA, and you gotta be averaging around 230 to even be anywhere close.

I know a couple of guys that might be able to make it if they wanted to. Hell, if I bowled more than once a week I might even be able to raise my average up enough to make it.

I've asked a couple the of the guys I know about it and one said that it would suck the fun out it. Right now it's just something fun to do 1 or 2 nights a week. Plus, if you have a bad game or three, nobody notices (except maybe your teammates). :P

say, for instance, that the bowling ball at the exact second prior to release is a clock...if you are at 6 or 5 o'clock, you are in a good position for lots of lift and turn/hook/spin on the ball.  When you come out incorrectly, your hand would be like right in the middle of the clock, or at 3 o'clock...if you are left handed, the first times are 6 and 7, middle remains the same, and the last is 9.

I'd say that when I release, my elbow and my body are separated by 2 1/2 to 3 inches. I get terrific spin on the ball, though, but probably nowhere near as much as I could. I have games where I'll knock down at least 9 every time on the first throw, but I'll only have like 4 strikes altogether. It's very frustrating. More often than not, the #2 pin or the #8 pin is left standing.

Also, how much distance (for a righty) should there be between the release point and the gutter? When I release, I'm a good 2/3 of a foot from the gutter.

I ALMOST got your score, Witesoxfan. I got in a groove Saturday night, bowled my best game and series ever. I had a 290, 195 and 225 for a 710 series. Even though i was out of the running for a 300, I know how you felt in the 10th frame. After I got my first one in the 10th, I realized just what score I could get. Glad I was in a zone or something. I had to sub last night also, but alas, no 290 there. I did keep my 600+ series going, though with a 222, 221 and a 181. I'll get a 300 yet! Congrats again on yours. When you get the ring, put a pic of it up here.

Never saw this thread originally, but allow me to offer my congrats...... I have thrown a 300 before as well, but it took me two games to do it. ;-)

Seriously, I bowled pretty regularly many years ago and my best was 266. I averaged in the 170's and bowled pretty competitively. In college, I bowled on a club team for a year and we bowled in a conference that included IU, UI, Ball. State, Purdue, Vincennes and others. It was a lot of fun. I was only average at that level.

Once again, and once you are old enough to drink it, this Bud's for you!

:cheers

Bowled my first ever 600 series last night. 206, 194, 211. Just barely made it..

I have no idea where this surge has come from. Just 2 years ago I was a 120 bowler by accident. I'm afraid my average is going to get to high I wont be able to maintain it for the tournements.

I just seen the coolest thing at my local bowling alley. They have a league that is dedicated solely to the White Sox and they have a White Sox bowling pin for the league...it is awesome. I am trying to talk them into selling it to me but its a no go thus far... I need to find one. Funny thing is though the owner of this bowling alley is a Scrubs fan so its funny to have to see him promote the Sox hehe

I bowled in that league last year. I got the white sox pin. They have a big outing like in July I think. Bowlers from all over the state go and everyone is suppose to wear this cheesy jersey/t-shirt.

Broadview has a league like this also. We bowled in it last year and got a couple of them. I have a Sox bowling ball also.

Bahhh You're no fun  :P

LOL.. they are cool.. and the league is fun. The Sox sponsor a game twice during the league (patio party). You should try to get into one of the leagues. I know several centers participate from the amount of people that attending the outing last year. I bet the Sox have a list of them.
