Butter Parque
Well so far the Sox offseason has started slow. They tagreted Omar Vizquel heavy, but were outbid. Christian Guzman seemed like a good plan B, but chose the worst franchise in sports instead. It was rumored that the Sox were in the maret for a closer. Percival seemed likely. He chose to go to a team that finished behind us in the division. Now what? Unless the Sox are planning on spending big money this offseason (Cabrera, Beltran, Benitez, Renteria), It seems that the Sox have struck out early. Granted it's still very early in the offseason and there's plenty of time for signings and trades, but now might be the time for the Sox to get going. Optimism this offseason should still be felt, but who hears has a feeling that this whole winter could turn out to be a big bust? C'mon Kenny, get a move on it. Chisoxfn
Still plenty of options out there. I still say the Sox are holding off for RJ and I think they get him.
WHarris1
Now we sit around and do nothing. Maybe sign the occasional pitcher with an ERA over 7.

CubKilla
FWIW, Kenny said he's "comfortable" with Uribe at SS and Willie at 2nd. He's the only one. Harris blows. But I've been saying Uribe at SS and Harris at 2B for Opening Day '05 all along. So I'm not surprised.
CWSGuy406
FWIW, Kenny said he's "comfortable" with Uribe at SS and Willie at 2nd. I have to believe that Kenny has at least one FA 2B in mind. While I think that, as an emergency option, Harris would be OK (not great, either) -- I gotta believe he's keying in on one FA from one of those two positions. Hopefully, Polanco. Speaking of which, how high would you guys be willing to go with Polanco? And, what kind of contract would you rather give him, one with more years, less money, or vice versa? He's 29, right? What about three years, 14 million? Too much? Too little?
jackie hayes
The Sox haven't done anything stupid, like sign an okay shortstop for 3 yr, $15 mil, or a bad shortstop for 4 yr, $18 mil. Far from striking out, the Sox have done well by not signing bad contracts. I've been impressed that KW has been able to let go when sensible limits are crossed. The Sox should make smart moves, not just big splashy moves.

Why get into a bidding war over a 37 year old Vizquel when you have Uribe ready to take the job. KW needs to be concentrating on getting a starter in here and some bullpen help and forget about the nonsense about dealing Konerko. With Maggs gone and Thomas's health in serious doubt who's gonna put up offensive numbers for the Sox? Lee? Everett? Yeah, good luck with that. No way for a backup do you give him $15 mil. How about 2 years/$6mil. He won't take it, but if you are going to make him the back up, you can't give him $5 mil a year. Punch and Judy Garland
Sox need to make one splashy move. They can't afford to have another Soxfest like 04's and they do need to do SOMETHING to sell some tickets and create a buzz.I don't suggest doing anything stupid but they do need to try to make something happen, and I have no doubt that they will try at least. BTW, is it possible that they hesitate to gush over Uribe because he is a Boras client? Just something that came across my mind. Maybe they just don't think he'll be here very long. SnB
I agree w/ the people saying that we haven't struck out....but done well so far. All the targets we had were way overpaid in their deals.
chisox2334
Right now kenny is just calling people and being fustrated. Jerry is reason why this team wont be buying anyone. Teama like Detriot and Clevelend have money now and I gurantee we will finish second of last next yr. By the way do you think way kenny feels uribe and harris can be compared to chandler and curry. I know I shouldnt even compare this but how hell is fine when harris hasnt shown crap. Oh well with money we have which is about 25 cents I guess uncle Jerry will just raise prices on tickets

I realize last year we made no moves, but by all accounts, payroll will be up around 70-75 million, so we at least have a little change to work with. I know last year we didn't do anything, but here -- if nothing happens this offseason, rip me to shreds. Rip my head off. Have some patience. Kenny has done well so far by not overpaying for Guzman and Vizquel.
NUKE_CLEVELAND
Have some patience. Kenny has done well so far by not overpaying for Guzman and Vizquel. It blows my mind that some people are upset that we didnt get into a bidding war over a 37 year old SS when Uribe is young enough to be his son ( ok I'm exaggerating but you see my point ) and can get it done just as well. Not all splashy moves are bad, and there are some (RJ, Kendall) that would really improve the team, but I hope KW's not thinking about SoxFest when he makes decisions. Personally, I'm not concerned about how big the signing is -- say KW signed Jon Lieber or Odalis Perez and a low-salary middle infielder, and traded Konerko for a reliever and prospects. That's a pretty low-key offseason, but it addresses the main issue the Sox had this season (pitching), and we'd have a good chance at winning the division. That's what I'm really looking for from KW. (Even though my ideal offseason involves Polanco and RJ and Kendall and Mota...haven't quite figured out how to fit all those together yet, though... ) As for Uribe + Boras, maybe, but I doubt it. The Sox control his rights through 2006, I think, and I think w/ young players you get what you can and cross that bridge when you come to it. SoxAce
Agreed Keith. Usually Kenny doesn't make big splashes till about Dec./Jan. If there's nothing goin on by then, then you have a case.
chisox2334
Guys last 4 yrs he wasnt able to because of Jerry Reinsdorf. Jerry even said today people payroll last yr will be basically same as this year. Why do you think Kenny Willams wont do buisness with Boras anymore? Becaise the money kenny puts out there for big names come up way short to others and its fustrating. Kenny would love this team win and Reinsdorf gives nothing about this team. The only thing will happeend is a trade and thats only way this team does it. Quite frankily I see no team trading for Konerko, Lee, or Garland either because their going wait till next yr free agent market to go get them. Arizona has already said we want a team not rebuilding but a qualified winner for world series. Were not a world series team and probably won't till we have some other guys here. Yes pitching is great but no other offense. Let me guess Joe bochared guy cant hit crap in mexican league will drive big unit here? nope Rj will be traded to Yankees where he wants to go. I can care less about Omar signing or Guzman. I like uribe. Thing is look who he is represented by ... Boras. So good bye Uribe next yr. Good bye Joe Crede as well. So tell me in 2 yrs who will sox team look like? a bunch of minor leaguers which every other team central will dominate.
