Chisoxfn
Maybe. But I think it will cost us Brian Anderson, too. I think the deal could be done without Anderson, just Garland/Konerko, however in the end I expect the Dbacks to ask for Anderson and since Kenny wants RJ so bad he's going to give him in. But comparing all the other offers, no one else even comes close to what the Sox have offered. I expect RJ to finish his career on the SouthSide. He's gonna probably resign on a year to year basis (although he'll likely extend one year with whoever accepts him immediately). JR and RJ will get along since RJ is more then happy to accept some deferred money. I'm hoping Kenny can counter and give them Diaz or someone along those lines (NOT BMAC, he's untouchable). I'd like to think Sweeney/Anderson/Bmac don't get dealt in the deal. I bet the Dbacks would accept Tracey although I think he's got a shot to catapult himself into the top 50 (in all of baseball) by the end of this next season. T R U
I don't want him either. It would be like me going out and buying a 52 inch plasma TV. Yeah it would be cool to have but it would look pretty stupid in my small apartment. thats a terrible analogy... I dont care if i lived in a one room apartment, that 52 Inch Plasma TV would own.. I could imagine playing video games on it now
southsider2k5
I dont mind trading Konerko, infact im in favor of it, but to try and rationalize it becuase we have Ross Gload waiting in the wings is kinda silly. Paul is a All-Star caliber player, you cant refute that Gload is career minor-leaguer up until this point, and while his glove at first isn't bad... it's closer to equal to paulie's glove rather than better. Garland is a continual dissapointment... he's my favorite sox but still sometimes you gotta call a turd a turd. IF you can get Randy Johnson... you get Randy Johnson. Note to Murcie. Post more often. Stop and ask yourselves, do you want to win now or not? We have a chance to pick up one of the best big game pitures in the game today, why wouldn't you do it? Even if this deal blows up in the Sox faces, you have got to try it. To not do this would be like Schueler passing up Roger Clemens because he was "washed up". southsideirish
If the offer is just Garland and Konerko for Johnson, I don't know how anyone can balk at that offer. This is Randy Johnson folks. Don't tell me, "Oh, he's 41 years old, blah blah blah.". So what? Like someone said on this board earlier, plenty of guys have shown that they're able to play and play at a high level into their forties (Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, and though not yet 40, but still up there in age, Maddux and Schilling). Johnson is definitely one of them. Konerko was pretty bad on the road this year, and as much help as he provided playing at the Cell, we have a guy who has hit everywhere he's ever played in Ross Gload. Not to mention Gload is an upgrade defensively at first, too.. And, some of you need to get over Garland. While I'm one of Garland's bigger backers, IMHO, the best Jon will ever be is a solid number three. Not saying that is a bad thing, but I don't see Garland pitching a sub-4.25 ERA next season. I also believe (hold in the laughs) that Diaz has earned his shot at being our fifth starter, as he has dominated AAA, and should be given a fair shot -- not pitching on three or ten days rest, given more than one start -- at the fifth starters role. That, or sign a veteran to take the role... This is the Big Unit. If the deal is Konerko and Garland for Johnson, where the hell do I sign? From what I read at a couple different places it is Jon Garland, Paul Konerko, and Brian Anderson. Do you still do it?
southsideirish
You guys are nuts, he's gonna be a White Sox. I think he will too. KW always goes out and gets that one big acquisition in the offseason. I think this is it.
EvilJester99
I still don't get how anyone would not want RJ to anchor this staff. He is above and beyond better than any of the current pitchers the Sox currently have. Yes Randy is 41 but he is still a damn good pitcher and would be a rock for this staff and not to mention he could maybe teach these other guys a thing or 2. NUKE_CLEVELAND
Here's an update. Randy Johnson is NOT coming here. KW will lowball an offer on the trade and someone else will get him. This is straight out of the Bill Wirtz/Bob Pulford playbook, make a lowball offer for someone huge and then whine to the press about "making an effort" and "doing our best". YASNY
I think Johnson will end up in NY, but we'll be part of the deal. We'll probably get Vazquez.

NUKE_CLEVELAND
Maybe... get a job.. ? I have a job but 3-4 grand for a TV would put a dent in anyones finances. KevHead0881
From Barry Rozner of the Herald this morning... World serious Don't believe for a second that the White Sox are only flirting with Arizona, because they're dead serious about chasing Randy Johnson. Sox GM Kenny Williams has been counted out of these races before and wound up winning in the end, so don't sell short his creativity and aggressiveness when it comes to landing the big fish - or in this case, the Big Unit. But what is the Sox' backup plan if they lose out, as they did on Omar Vizquel?

Molto
the only way the Sox don't become the favorite to get Johnson is if he says he doesn't want to come here. If Johnson includes the White Sox on the list of teams he would waive his no trade clause for, the White Sox are the favorites to land him in my mind. striker
Ben Maller seems to think RJ is coming to the Sox http://www.benmaller.com/archives/2004/november/19.html I think giving up Kornerko/Garland and a prospect is worth it. RJ is money. His presence alone will help the rest of the pitching staff. Just remember when you talk about how bad it is to trade prospects how many over hyped prospects there have been. Van Poppel Brien Taylor (yankees) Kornerko (who is just now coming around) Cliff Floyd (decent but not hasn't lived up to his hype when he was a prospect) Win and win now. Molto
I have no problem trading prospects, but I think you should always make sure you have some in the minors for future trades or for your own use. With Borchard on the brink of extinction and Reed being dealt last season, I'd prefer, like Jason said, for them to keep Anderson and deal someone like Diaz. However, I'd still like the Diamondbacks to add another player in the deal, even if it's a mid-level prospect or bench player.
KevHead0881
When it comes to prospects, it depends. Outfielders come and go, and unless you have that special can't miss superstar sitting in your lap, I have no problem trading them for immediate help. Pitching prospects are a whole different thing. And if you look at KW's history, he hasn't traded a whole lot of big time pitching talent from our system. Then again, our pitching prospects haven't amounted to a whole lot all together in recent years.
AnthraxFan93
I think Johnson will end up in NY, but we'll be part of the deal. We'll probably get Vazquez. And there is nothing wrong with that.. Vazquez is signed the next 3 years..for pennies at that. And talk about a Great # 2 in your 3 hole.. in the words the best men on the planet BRILLANT.. We Get Vazquez Rotation Gracia marky Vazquez Contreas Garland When your number 5 guy can get you 12 wins.. whats not to like? But personally I want Diaz as the #5 what dos he have left to prove in Triple-A?
