DBAHO
I would take Johnson, but not give up too much for him. Maybe we could make it a larger deal and maybe grab one of their young pitchers (perferably Zach Day) and possibly Schnieder. The Red Sox, seeking a possible alternative to free-agent C Jason Varitek, inquired about Washington C Brian Schneider at the general managers' meetings, only to be told by interim Washington G.M. Jim Bowden that Schneider was untouchable. Schneider, who turns 28 on November 26, led the majors by throwing out 47.8 percent of attempted basestealers in 2004. He also hit a career-high 12 homers in 436 at-bats, though his on-base percentage was only .325. . . . I've long been a fan of acquiring Zach Day though. He's a young groundball pitcher who would be an ideal #3 or #4 starter for us. Washington could have some interest in Garland and some prospects. Gene Honda Civic
Johnson would be a great fit.... And with one pornstache leaving(JosE6), we'd need another to fill in... sseriosuly, though, if konekro is shipped out, Johnson would be a perfect fit at 1B... LHB, good OBP. And singe apparently mang't doesn't have confidence in Gload as an everyday 1B, he's perfect. do you think Washinton would accept a trade Anthrax for johnson, straight up? Sorry ican't spell, i'm a little bity drunk. Go HAWKETES

DBAHO
What about Travis Lee as a 1B option? Lee was discussed too last off-season I think. Some team will pick him up, probably not us, with Konerko, Glaod and Thomas still all around at the moment.
SouthSide2004
AnthraxFan, you need watch a couple of baseball games before you start making all these outlandish comments. Throughout this entire thread, I have not witnessed one intelligent comment from you. And I still can't believe you think the Sox have anywhere near 40 million dollars to spend. Try using addition in the future before making such a stupid statement.

The Critic
Has anyone actually considered the fact Ross Gload could be able to play RF IF we need him to. A platoon of Everett and Gload in RF, wouldn't be the worst scenario to consider, IF the Sox plan on giving Gload enough reps in spring training at RF. Unless Jurassic comes into camp in MUCH better shape than last year, a Carl/Gload platoon scares the hell out of me in RF. Gload MIGHT grow into a half-way decent outfielder in time, but I don't want him learning the job at the ML level.

That's why signing a speedy outfield guy like Dave Roberts would be some perfect insurance as a 4th outfielder, because the likes of Timo Perez and Joe Borchard hardly inspire me in that regard. And Everett will most likely be DH'ing for the 1st month anyways.

AngelasDaddy0427
I can't read the entire thread so I'll just ask it here: How is his baserunning speed... Is he faster then Paulie... I mean if we are going to get another 1B I don't want another guy that we have to pinch run for in the late innings.

elrockinMT
Rumors are the Expos/Nationals/Senators want Wilkerson to play 1st so that they can free up room in the outfield. His value is extremely low right now, and he's another of those low risk/high reward guys KW likes so much. If we pull off a deal trading PK, and then maybe throw Munoz and a couple mid prospects at them to get N. Johnson, well first we'd be acquiring two Johnsons then we'd have a powerful left handed stick who'd probably thrive off of Coors East. Nick Johnson of reserve player fame? Nick Johnson who was injured for much of the season? Puhh-lleeaassee!
Wise Master Buehrle
Nick Johnson of reserve player fame? Nick Johnson who was injured for much of the season? Puhh-lleeaassee! Why not? He's not making 8 mil. Makes much less. Had a great season OBP wise for the Yanks. Only 26. Why not? This is a guy I could see KW realistically going after, low risk, high reward. southsider2k5
Johnson strikes me as one of those JD Drew types. If he ever figures out a way to stay healthy, he is going to be dangerous.

Johnson is a strong lefty bat with potential there's no doubt, but he is oft injured. Konerko is not that much older than Nick J. and he's much more a threat with the bat and is established as an all-star caliber player. Plus I doubt that he will really get thrown out at 1B on a hard hit ball to RF as was stated in another post.

I wouldnt compare him close to Drew because he doesn't have the power of drew. Although, at Johnson's peak I think he'd get a 380-400 obp, 290-300 avg, 15-25 hr. Very solid #'s. I would be happy w/ Johnson as a replacement for konerko if he is traded.
