The Beast
Nomar Garciaparra - SS - CHC The Cubs are leaning toward offering arbitration to Matt Clement but not to Nomar Garciaparra. Cubs GM Jim Hendry wants to have a good idea whether Nomar will return before the conclusion of the winter meetings. A one- or a two-year deal is a possibility. Nov. 21 - 2:01 pm et I'd like a two year deal with him. Bring him in instead of Walker or Renteria, if we can get the money. Felix Diaz worked two scoreless innings yesterday in relief of John Patterson for Licey of the Dominican Winter League. Diaz has pitched three scoreless innings since joining the Tigers. It looks like the White Sox plan to have him compete for a bullpen spot in the spring. Nov. 21 - 2:50 pm et Good news...i guess, I don't really like this guy... Thoughts? And how can you judge them in Arizona, you might as well hold spring training in Chicago and let them freeze to death,
Gene Honda Civic
I have confidence in both... They are both good young pitchers... Munoz will be around for a long time in the MLB, filling that last roster spot as a loogy.
AddisonStSox
My thoughts... Given time Munoz will be everything as advertised. As for Diaz, I think he can develop into a major leauge talent...time will tell on that one. I'm pro-Nomar in 2005.
chisox05
Glad to hear both doing well. I have way more confidence in Diaz I think Munoz is and will be a dominant setup man this season and for many years to come. I will keep this link so that in October I could show you that I am not retarted.

Also, can you spell ''retarted'' right because you sound retarded.

He will be a lefty specialist put in in games where it is pretty much over to start the season, but in a couple weeks to a month, he will setup. southsider2k5
Munoz and Diaz both showed flashes of being servicable ML pitchers. It wouldn't surprise me at all if both ended up on the Sox roster to start 2005. The Sox did a very good job with managing the development of Adkins and Cotts in 2004 by working them is very fixed situations, and I could see them doing the same in 05 with Munoz and Diaz. However, I liked Diaz over Munoz. It seems every minor league pitcher we have used just tosses the ball over the middle of the plate or walks everyone. Hopefully at least one of them matures as a big league pitcher soon.

IMO, Adkins and Cotts numbers do not reflect the season they had. I believe that Cotts ERA was high because of that 1 start and Adkins ERA blew up toward the end because he assumed Politt'e role and wasn't ready. I believe they both will be good and eventually starting.
EvilJester99
Also Cotts got screwed over how many times because he would leave the game and have "Thriller" come in right behind him and let runs score?? I think "Thriller" hurt Cotts more than Cotts did.IMO

Chisoxfn
I guess I'm not the only person that doesn't like Adkins then. For whatever reason he just doesn't look all that good when out their. He was good during the first half (statistically) but he really went south during the 2nd half.
chisox05
i like cotts but there is something about adkins that i dont like with... i rather have both munoz and diaz over adkins I don't like adkins-whenever he is put into a IMPORTANT situation he fails. When he was producing quality(great) #'s, he was coming in in the 5th or 6th inning or hed come in w/ a big lead or losing by a lot. His #'s faded when ozzie put him into the setup role because of his good stats(this happened at different pts throughout the season). Cotts however I like. Did you guys think that maybe, since this was his first full season in the show, that possibly he had a tired arm towards the end of the year. Remember, Rookies in every sport need time to adjust to the schedule as well as the toll that the games takes on them. When the younger guys' stamina is built up, they will finish strong. I would agree with that theory if Adkins underwent a heavy workload this season and didn't have plenty of minor league experience in terms of innings under his belt. Had he pitched a vast amount more innings then any previous season or anything along those lines I'd agree with that. I do hope he turns out to be a good reliever, I just have my doubts. But I do think he could be a solid mop up guy.

It appeared to me that he got worse when Politte went down and his workload went up. With that being said, I'm high on Adkins but not sold on Politte. Can anyone offer any info on Cliff? YASNY
When evaluating Adkins and Cotts, you have to take into consideration the 5th starter fiasco that's now two years old. They had to eat a lot of innings that they normally wouldn't have had too. And that includes innings where they didn't have it that day, but had to stay in and pitch.
