Steff
Ohh well... You knew they had to find the most Vanilla, least offensive guy they could possibly find... You should be banned for this racist s***. You are easily the most ignorant and classless person I have ever seen post on a message board. FlaSoxxJim
I truly doubt the decision was racially motivated (if that was what the capital V in "Vanilla" implied). But aside from that, I think Jeckle's post is a pretty fair assessment - Mac is not going to offend anybody and should put on a decent show. This halftime show is going to be so scrutinized by a fine-happy FCC, I think the decision to go with a rather whitebread (no racial overtones - merely referring to the lukewarm, inoccuous pop of the aging former Beatle) headliner. To be fair to Mac, he still puts on an amazing bog-production live show. It should fit in fine for the Super Bowl.
The Critic
You should be banned for this racist s***. You are easily the most ignorant and classless person I have ever seen post on a message board. I don't see how this is racist. I take the term "vanilla" to mean bland, flavorless, inoffensive and dull. And I agree. They wanted someone they could trust to not push ANY envelope whatsoever. It was an incredible show. I saw him at the UC a few years back when he toured for his last album. It is the only big money concert I have ever seen, and I valued every penny of it. It is the only big money concert I have ever seen, and I valued every penny of it. I didn't have the scratch to see the last tour but I have not heard a single bad review from a dozen or so people who saw shows. I saw both of the big tours in the 90s, one was for Flowers in the Dirt and I think the other one was right around the time of the Anthology releases. Both shows were big-production rock shows and both were pretty amazing.
The Critic
I took it to mean "white". And ignorant. Well, they won't have Timberlake back, and he's white. They wouldn't have Eminem and he's white. They just want someone who isn't going to rattle the FCC's cage this year. I know Jeckle can say some things that push buttons, but I really don't think that was the case this time. Agree to disagree, I guess. Spiff
I've never heard the word vanilla used to mean anything racist, I'm sure jeckle meant boring. There's no mention of the word as an epithet in any dictionary I found, urban or conventional.
