He_Gawn
Well, those refs really really sucked ass in that game. The jipped the ILL just like they do when the Hoosiers come to town. OH well, great win. IU is up by 15 right now againts Wisconsin.
3E8
QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) This is assuming youre going off of todays game. (If not I'm sorry for false accusations) One game and you make predictions like that? Do the Cinci, WF, and Zags game mean nothing to you? They very well may not go undefeated or win the national championship, but to judge it off of one conference game against Purdue? Is UNC not going to win the national championship because a fluke happened and they lost to Santa Clara(i think it was them)? I'm going off of today's game as well as the other five or six I've seen them play. But today told me that they are not infallible. They'll lose on the road in the Big Ten, probably to MSU, OSU, or Iowa. As for the National Championship prediction, I just think Kansas is better. They have more depth. greasywheels121
Wow....I don't think anyone in the building thought we were going to do that. We played a great GAME. We didn't just play one good half and squeak by. Wow, that was nice & comforting. Bracey actually had a pretty good shooting game and really had a quiet 30 tonight. White played great off the ball all night. Our next game is West Lafayette on the 15th at Purdue....

farmteam
One player won't stop Simien. Unless, of course, you combine Head, Williams, and Brown into one player. It's the way the Illini play defense, kind of a swarm thing.
3E8
They might not even play each other anyway, so maybe this is a moot point.
Palehosefan
I don't think you can argue right now that Kansas has more offensive balance. Illinois has 5 players that are averaging 10 or more points a game. Kansas barely has 4 if you round up with Miles at 9.7 a game. Illinois is also beating Kansas in every offensive category from ppg, assists, FG%, FT%, and even 3 point%. Kansas is a very solid team, but until JR Giddens figures out he's much more than a jump shooter and the freshmen big men get more experience, Kansas is very vulnerable. farmteam
Oh, by the way, I'm not saying the Illini will go undefeated and/or win the National Championship. Once he gets back from his thumb injury who's to say he won't get hurt again? He seems to be one of those injury prone guys.
ZoomSlowik
Let me first say that I am an NU fan going to school at Illinois (yes, I know the Illini are going to kill us next week, BFD), and because of this I have become very sick of hearing about the Illini. After 4 years of hearing about how great they are and no one believing me when I tell them they will not make the Final Four, I tend to look on them quite cynically. However, even I can admit they finally have a team that is good enough to win something of consequence. The only teams I would feel somewhat confident saying they could beat them are UNC, Duke, and Kansas, and those last two have to get 100% healthy first (there are other teams that can beat them on a good night, but I think these teams have better chances). I'm not going to say whether or not they will win the NCAA tournament, because at this time it is pointless. We don't know if they'll get the draw of death, or if someone major will get hurt. However, I do not think that the will go undefeated (and neither will Kansas, Duke, or any of the other undefeated teams). Eventually they will run into a cold or mediocre shooting night against the wrong team and slip up. They already did it a couple of times, but not against any teams of consequence (they shot well against Gonzaga and Wake, Cinci wasn't so hot but they aren't good enough to do anything about it). I'm really looking forward to Illinois at MSU. I'm not guaranteeing that the Spartans will win, I'm just saying that it looks like a very good matchup. The Spartans have similar athleticism, a better post scorer in Davis, and in my opinion more depth than the Illini (Torbert is a monster off the bench and they play several others that eat some minutes, the U of I bench doesn't make a major impact that often and only has 3 major contributors). Obviously, Illinois' three guards are monsters though, and if Davis gets in trouble the Illini have a big advantage.
IlliniKrush
I expected nothing less in that Purdue game yesterday. I expected a battle from Keady's squad, even if they aren't that talented. We have trouble playing in that arena (any place in the big ten is tough), and Keady knows Weber and our tendencies very well. Purdue came out with a ton of fire, which was expected. The line was Illinois -15, which was way too much. No way can you expect to blow out Purdue on their home floor. It was good to get into a tough game, comeback, and get the win. This team needs to learn how to do that. As far as going undefeated...i hope we don't, to be honest. That's way too much pressure, and i want them to be able to regroup after a loss. As far as predicting they won't win the national championship...well, smart bet considering there are 63 other teams in the tournament. But regardless of that, that is not much of a prediction, and there is almost nothing you can use to support that - unless you want to base your prediction solely on a 9 pt victory on the road. Honestly, the only team i fear a bit is UNC, because they have so much talent and more offensive depth/balance. I think we are even or better than Kansas, Duke, etc, but UNC i would not want to face until the final game, and hope they get knocked out earlier. I'm not saying we wouldn't beat them (or guarantee that we'd beat everyone else), but that is the most dangerous team right now.
Brian
Salukis go to Nebraska and knock off rival Creighton 69-63. I'm liking Comcast Sports Net. The last 3 MVC games for SIU have been on there.

Niether team deserved to win that game. It wasn't even that the defense was that good, the offensive flow was horrible. Maybe things will be different when Simien is back (if he can actually stay healthy for once) but niether one of those teams looked like a title contender to me. Too many bad shots, not enough disipline, no go to scorers.

I am saying you're giving too much credit to Kansas and too little to Illinois. I totally agree with you. I don't think any team in the country is good enough to go undefeated this year, and most likely no one will finish with as few as one loss. When you play in the SEC/ACC/Big10/Big12 you just have to expect to lose a couple of games. Illinios won't be an exception to this, and neither will Kansas. Capn12
Kansas shoulda already had 1 loss...at home to the hands of my South Carolina boys...but yet we found a way to suck at shooting critical FTs, and let Kansas get their FIRST lead of the game with 5:30 left in the game....so frustrating. WilliamTell
When I was watching the Iowa/Ohio St. game last weekend, they put up the Big Ten leaders in assists. 3 of the top 4 there from Illinois. That surprised me, I know they're good and all, but that's just unheard of.
IlliniKrush
Illinois shares the basketball better than any team in the nation, which is the #1 reason they are undefeated right now. I've never seen unselfishness reach this level. It is a joy to watch.
Palehosefan
That is what makes UNC and Illinois so great. They are both great passing teams and have the athletes to finish off the assists. Both teams are averaging over 20 assists a game, UNC at 22.1 and Illinois at 20.1, that will more than get it done.
