After conferring with sophomore Brian Randle, the player's parents and his doctor, Weber said it is very doubtful the 6-foot-7-inch forward from Peoria will play this season. Randle broke his left hand Nov. 10 and returned to practice after the holidays. He has not regained his stamina or comfort level on the court.

"We don't think he'd get near 100 percent," Weber said. "I'd hate to say no totally, but I'd say it's very doubtful he'd come back."

Randle was more blunt about his prognosis.

"I'm going to redshirt," he said. He could fathom a return, but "it would take a lot of our guys getting hurt."

"I would ideally like to come back, but it's a better decision for me in the long run," Randle said

Word has it that Randle is in TERRIBLE shape, a huge reason he's not coming back.

Damn, that could, stress on the word COULD, hurt the Illini come tournament time. In a one and done situation if Illinois gets into foul trouble they don't have as deep of a bench as you would like to see. Ingram is the only guy that I believe has played solid basketball consistently off the bench. Smith is just to inconsistent and McBride doesn't have the 3-point shot that he had last year. Hopefully, he'll come back strong next year and make that extra year worthwhile.

I really hope someone is picking up the pieces of our destroyed frontline that isn't going to get us anywhere in the tournament...

Illinois' Augustine Named Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Illini's James Augustine helped Illinois extend its school-record 21-0 start last week

Jan. 31, 2005

Big Ten Player of the Week

James Augustine, Illinois

JR, F, Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central

Augustine helped Illinois extend its school-record start to 21-0, averaging 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting 83.3 percent from the field (10-of-12) last week. He posted 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds and two blocks in a 75-65 victory over Wisconsin, ending the Badgers' 38-game home winning streak. With Illinois up by just one with three minutes remaining, Augustine had back-to-back dunks to give the Illini a five-point advantage and seal the win. He followed with another strong performance, tallying 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting (.833) against Minnesota, while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds and adding a game-high three blocks. Augustine currently leads the Big Ten in field goal percentage (63.9), shooting 78-of-122 from the field this season. He claims his second career Big Ten laurel as he was also named Player of the Week on Jan. 10. Illinois has set a Big Ten record by having four different players named Player of the Week during the same season as Augustine joins teammates Dee Brown (Nov. 22), Luther Head (Jan. 17), and Roger Powell (Dec. 6).

According to a source at the ICPD, the West Des Moines PD served a search warrant at a current player's apartment regarding sexual assault--the apparent victim was from WDM.

*Player is supposedly PP.

Also, Boyd was arrested. Good stuff over in Iowa.

If there is any truth to this PP is toast. Should have been toast after the first time with what he did. Alford was a joke through that whole thing, can't wait to see what he does now.
