Sox in hunt for Nomar?

Winning Ugly

The achilles is what the Sox need to be careful about. If I recall, I remember reading that they thought it would take an offseason and he would heal. It was pretty much a fluke injury and things were taken care of but it wasn't able to heal fully during the season.

He should be 100% at the start of the year which will be great. A healthy Nomar is an All Star, a different maker, and a draw. SIGN HIM.

I agree, Nomar could be signed to a decent 1 yr deal, as he needs to show he's worth more than Renteria and Cabrera [which he definitely is when healthy] His wrist injury occured in 2001. He played 150 games in 2002 and 2003 with over a 300 avg with solid OBP and SLg numbers. If his achilles and groin injuries are healed, he's worth $8, 9 mill for a yr.

If signed, he'd make Lee tradeable. As he's a #3 hitter, Frank would hit 4. Lee has more trade value, and could help fill a few spots w/ young, exciting talent [or get an all star type player] I've said all along that Pk and Garland by themselves as trade bait won't turn the sox into playoff / world series contenders. But Lee could bring about the young talent the sox need to compete with the Twins and Cle in the next few years

Because you know Rentaria and Cabrera will play almost every day and give you gold glove defense and good hitting.  With the exception of the hitting, you can't say the same about Nomar for the rest.

With that being said, if the price is right, I'd take a chance on Nomar for a year.  Unfortunately, he'll be asking for much more than he's worth, and in the words of Happy Gilmore, "the price is wrong b****."  ;)

Hate to be technical, but it was Bob Barker,Mr. "The Price Is Right"

himself, who told Happy that "the price is wrong,b****". :D :D

My favorite line in the movie!!

I would rather have Renteria or Cabrera than NO-MORE, I believe he is a cancer in the clubhouse, and we need people that are team players not for themselves. Manny Ramirez recently came to the place that I work, and a friend of mine spoke with him, and he made the comment, whoever has Nomar on their team will never win anything.

Your right, the Red Sox finally won the WS once Nomar left

I don't see how Nomar is a cancer. Where has this ever been reported in a newspaper? You heard rumblings from the Boston brass AFTER they traded him, but nothing before that. Usually clubhouse cancers are not very fan-friendly, and it appears that Nomar was a fan favorite. He is better than Jose and it appears that he would take a one year deal. As for the injury thing, anyone can get hurt, as we saw with Mags, so worrying about the possibility of it happening is a moot point. Besides, what exactally IS a clubhouse cancer? What does Nomar do that is sooo bad? I really want to know.

Guys we have enough money to get a bullpen help and starter. I gurantee were not even looking at nomar

And I can guarantee you're wrong.

I have no doubt the Sox are looking at Nomar. Take into account that they are also looking at Pavano and Renteria too, and were looking at Kendall.

Looking does not even mean they are going to pursue the guy.

Gammons note on Nomar

Those who want to put Nomar Garciaparra in a time capsule should note that in the last two seasons -- yes, including 2004 -- he is first among shortstops in OPS and slugging and second in homers, batting average and total bases. If Seattle or Anaheim doesn't swoop in, it's a matter of how much he gets from the Cubs on a one-year, make-good contract.

Nomar was NOT fan freindly, as he hated making public relation appearances. However he was a Boston favorite. Of that, there is no doubt. I don't see anything wrong with a guy that wants to stay focused on baseball without all the other BS.

And there was comment made earlier referring to something Manny Ramirez said about Nomar. Pot, meet kettle. :headshake

I believe that before the Yankees got ARod and that Boston was in the running, why did Kevin Millar want AROD instead of NOMAR?

Who would you rather have, knowing all things - a gold-glove winning SS who hits about .310 50 140 1.000 a year, or an erratic fielding SS who hits .310 25 80 .850 a year?

I have complete confidence that KW will acquire Nomar. We frign traded Maggs for him last season until the deal bombed.

I am really interested in what Garpar would get for a 1 year deal. I mean, i could see anywhere from 6-10 million.

Noone has metioned exactally what Nomar supposedly does that makes him a cancer in the clubhouse.  What does a player do that is sooooo bad?  We all know what Sam-me did in his, but what does Nomar do?

I'd love to hear that answer as well. All I've ever heard is the guy just comes to the park and wants to do his job. Not the most outspokenly friendly guy with the media.. but we're used to that with Frank.

You won't hear it either. It is another Red Sox hatchet job, just like they did to Everett.
