Chisoxfn
Actually, he's getting paid decent money so the Sox must like something in him. 100,000 guaranteed and he would make a little over 500K if he made the roster. Thats more then Munoz/Diaz/Baj would be making if they made the roster. Has solid career numbers. I remember the Pads liked him a few years back (if memory serves me right) but I don't remember what or how this guy threw.

I remember the Pads liked him a few years back (if memory serves me right) but I don't remember what or how this guy threw. This is what rotoworld said about him. White Sox signed LHP Kevin Walker, who had been with the Giants, to a one-year, $525,000 contract. We certainly didn't see Walker getting a major league deal. He had a 4.26 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP in 69 2/3 IP for Triple-A Fresno last season. The 28-year-old former Padre once looked like one of the game's top young lefty relievers, but he has struggled to regain his old form since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2001. It's not very likely that he'll help the White Sox as a lefty specialist. Nov. 24 - 1:44 pm et
elrockinMT
This is obviously just a AAA move. KW does quite abit of this type of FA stuff. Signs a lot of lower level people to fill AAA roster spots, but at the same time hopes that there might be a gem out there too.

hammerhead johnson
every offseason when the Sox make a move like this, as do most teams, it's treated by a few idiots as the one and only move they will make and a bad at one at that. some of you guys act like the Sox signed Walker and held a press conference and everything deaming it the best signing they've had and the only one they will do... unf***ing real. some of you need to use common sense. Naah, nobody said anything to suggest that it was the one and only move that they'll make.

DBAHO
Southtown article on the Walker signing; After having free-agent shortstop Omar Vizquel snatched from his grasp by San Francisco earlier this month, White Sox general manager Ken Williams vowed to go about business in "stealth" mode the rest of the offseason. Mission accomplished thus far. Williams added bullpen help Wednesday, signing journeyman left-handed reliever Kevin Walker. While it wasn't the big-name pitcher Williams hoped to add to his staff, it does give the GM a veteran southpaw who expects to get a good look in spring training. The Sox have two left-handed relievers — Neal Cotts and Damaso Marte — penciled in already. They also have youngster Arnie Munoz waiting in the wings. The 28-year-old Walker will add depth, serving as an insurance policy should Cotts or Marte stumble. Walker spent the majority of the 2004 season at Triple-A Fresno in the Giants organization, going 1-3 with a 4.26 ERA. He pitched 69 2/3 innings, with one save in 48 appearances (one start). The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder, who was claimed by San Francisco off waivers from San Diego on March 31, was 0-0 with a 16.20 ERA in five relief appearances for the Giants. In five major league seasons, Walker is 7-2 with a 4.45 ERA in 113 games. Williams is still shopping for another starting pitcher and perhaps an experienced closer, but he doesn't think those additions will come until during or after the winter meetings. With the addition of Walker the Sox's 40-man roster is at 39.
WHarris1
My trust in KW fades with each new day. I've been getting fed up with KW but this signing doesn't make me anymore angry. This isn't meant to be our 5th starter. RELAX PEOPLE!

Yes but what I'm saying is that this guy obviously didn't deserve a major league contract just by looking at his stats for the last few seasons. We've got Cotts, Marte and Munoz are the lefties we can look at for the bullpen, Walker will probably be filling Kelly Wunsch's spot in the bullpen down in Charlotte for 2005. NUKE_CLEVELAND
He was 7-1 in 2000! :rolly He'll fit right in then. The last time this team was any good was 2000.

CubKilla
while you make a good point about having a sense of humor ... I do need one sometimes when I'm on these boards, the whole, sarcastic "WOW, WORLD SERIES HERE WE COME" jokes are overdone and rather old. the Sox signed a minor-league left-handed pitcher ... nothing worth getting excited, upset, or sarcastic about. This team is so pathetic that the, "Wow! WS..... here we come!", jokes never lose their luster when discussing the pro and cons of a 28 y/o MLB wanna-be. God knows, now that I think of it, he probably can be on a team that has, for 2 seasons now, failed to address the 5th starter role seriously. But God forbid paying Sox fans that bleed and die everything black and silver make jokes about a nothing acquisition :rolly .

Just a hunch -- but you were probably saying the same thing when the Sox picked up Damaso Marte... And most likely, you were probably saying (when the Sox picked up 'Flash' Gordon), "Why the hell are we going after this washed up bum?". And, yet again, when the Sox signed Shingo Takatsu, I'm just guessing that your thoughts were along the lines of, "Wow, the Sox are so cheap, they have to go to Japanese pitchers to get who they want." Holy s***, people, the guy will be making 100,000 if he sucks. If he's any good, he gets half a million. b**** b**** b**** b**** b****... Geez... I'd have to reach into the archives. If I remember correctly, didn't care too much one way or the other about Marte/Guerrier and was content with the signing of Gordon. Didn't know enough about Takatsu to say much but I was hoping he'd bump Botch out of the closer's role. Tough break for me there.

CWSGuy406
and where have those moves gotten us? They haven't gotten us to the playoffs. But have those moves specifically (Marte, Shingo, Gordon) prevented us from going to the playoffs? No, in fact, they've made us a better team... I don't know why you ask that question, one move 'alone' will really never get you to the playoffs, because in baseball, one player doesn't make a team...
