greasywheels121
Good deal! IU's football coach and entire staff were fired after only winning 8 games in 3 years at the helm. Maybe with our new AD, we take a look at getting a big name coach. We'll see.
aboz56
IU will never be a football school and that's sad to say. No one supports the program enough.
greasywheels121
IU will never be a football school and that's sad to say. No one supports the program enough. I don't know...we got this new AD this year, and he's a football guy. I think he saw all the options out this year and he might take a chance at signing one of these guys. I saw this tidbit in an IndyStar Q&A from Terry Hutchens from 11/24... Question: Why won't IU pony up and hire a "name" coach to turn the football program around? Until this happens, I can't see things ever improving in Bloomington. (Greg from Corrales, N.M.) Answer: What name do you have in mind? And beyond that, what name coach is going to be willing to come to Bloomington? Those are two pretty basic questions that need to be answered. I always go back to the last time IU was searching for a coach, which happened to correspond with Notre Dame looking for a football coach, too. There were 25 names on IU’s prospect list, and 30 on Notre Dame’s -- and there were no duplications. That told me all I needed to know. It’s as if the jobs were in different college divisions or something. The obvious question becomes if IU is willing to pay a coach a million dollars a year would that put the Hoosiers into the next tax bracket in terms of attracting coaches? Maybe it would. But maybe coaches are just too concerned about the difficulties of recruiting football players to Bloomington that they would still shy away from that situation. I think it’s going to take the right man in the right place at the right time. Unfortunately, I’m not sure when any of those may exist. I guess I have to stay optimistic. Rex Hudler
I'd be happy with seeing the program like it was back when Bill Mallory was having some success. Most years were 7-4 with an 8-3 and 6-5 sprinkled in on occasion. Every once in a while, they would upset a Ohio St. or Michigan and usually go to a minor-mid-level bowl. HoosierSox
There has to be another Joe Tiller or Urban Meyer type coach out that is just waiting for the opportunity to coach at a Big Ten school. Hopefully Greenspan can find a good coach in that mold.
