A subplot of the "Barriod" scandal

Recommended Posts

Bonds said that Anderson had so little money that he “lives in his car half the time.” Asked by a juror why he didn’t buy “a mansion” for his trainer, Bonds answered: “One, I’m black, and I’m keeping my money. And there’s not too many rich black people in this world. There’s more wealthy Asian people and Caucasian and white. And I ain’t giving my money up.”

What the hell?

:fyou :fyou :fyou Barry Bonds. I hope you get banned from baseball.

What an asshole. He won't even support his trainer. f*** you, Barry. I hope you get injured big time and even get banned from baseball, and all your numbers get taken away, so all you do is sit in one of your 30 mansions listening to rap music and drinking booze because no one wants to hang out with you.

He wont support his trainer.. what's wrong with that..? Why is it his responsibility to afford his trainer a house.? I'm sure he paid the guy. What he did with his money to not be able to put a roof over his house is none of Bond's concern.

Of course.. Barry's comments following leave a lot to be desired.. but I don't think he should have bought the guy a house.

Neither do I. I posted the whole quote so it wasn't taken out of context, but the gist of what Barry said makes him a total assclown IMO.

He's a dillweed. Period.

Aren't they supposed to be friends since like 4th grade? You would think that if you had a boat load of money and one of your friends of over 25 years needed a little help you could float them a little cash. It isn't like Barry is exactly starving or anything. But then again, I guess I think a lot different than some professional athletes and actually give a s*** about my friends and people close to me.

How do you know he didn't..? Like I said.. I'm sure he paid him - if for nothing else but to keep his mouth shut.. and I'm sure it was a hefty amount. The guy is a lowlife scum. I'm sure he squandered his money. I give a s*** about my friends also.. and they benifit from me greatly. But what they do with $$ or anything else I give them after they get it is none of my business and if they choose to be careless with it.. to bad. I'm not a bank.. and I don't think anyone - regardless of their wealth - should be treated like one. Thinking that he should have bought the guy a house just cause he has more money than most doesn't fly with me.

JMO, of course.

I agree as long as he was paying him a fee, he doesn't and shouldn't have to support his trainer. However if they are "Friends" he could probably help him out if the guy is sleeping in his car as he said. To not help him because Bonds is a "Black man" and there aren't enough black men is totally ridiculous. I take it its ok for Baroid to be racist but if someone is racist to him, he b****es and cries about it.

I never suggested for him to buy a house for his friend, merely loan him some cash. From what I was reading it appeared like he didn't really want to help him at all. Then again, I don't know them personally so who knows what Barry might have done for him. I respect your opinion too. I'm not saying he should go around and give every friend of his a million and a new house just for hangin out with him. :D

At least Bonds makes no excuses. He knows he's an ass. Bonds isn't a complete fake like Sosa. Give Bonds credit there.

And that is exactly the one reason I respected Bonds (up until the roid lies). He didn't smile for the cameras and act like he cared about the fans, when in fact he didn't. You always know exactly where you stand with Barry.

I agree with you that he could have helped him out.. difference is I believe he did.

I know I've told this story before.. but quickly.. I met Barry 5 or 6 years ago - maybe 4 diffferent times during the season. Nice guy, really. This was before his father was real sick. A couple years pass and I had not seen him since. When Ray got traded I went to some games and after we all went out to dinner. In walks Barry.. he walks around saying hi to everyone.. and without missing a beat.. walks up to me.. says hello to me by name. Spends a few minutes asking me how life is, buys a few rounds of drinks, etc, etc..

Here is a guy who meets and talks to hundreds of people over the season.. and after 2 years remembers my name...? And goes out of his way to say hello..?? That, to me, is not a guy who would treat his friends.. those he sees on a regular basis (his trainer) like crap.

Clearly, because of meeting him I have a different opinion about him and I think he really would have/did do all he could for the guy.

Respect to you also, SFF. :cheers

DAMN, STEFF!

He remembered your name, 2 years later, and he DIDN'T EVEN BUY YOU A HOUSE?????

...what a jerk....

From what I heard on the radio, Barry paid Anderson in cash, so if this guy gets like $15 grand in cash from Bonds ( a number I heard mentioned, and that's a single payment not a total ) and he's still sleeping in his car, either he's blowing all his money on SOMETHING.....or he's got a very comfortable car....

Yeah, I remember hearing that story now that you said it again. I guess it is really hard to really know someone when you have never met or interacted with them. It is always so easy to judge from far away and not take the time to see the real person. I have never met him and probably never will but when you give a little bit of the human side of the guy it almost makes me think he isn't so bad and that he just has a tough shell.

Again, I may not care for the way he comes off to the public but when people like you have met him and share the stories with us it makes it easier to understand the guy and what he is actually like.

Also, I am sure you are right and his friend was trashy and whatever money he got from Barry he didn't spend it wisely. Obvious by the living in his car and such. Thanks for telling your story again. :cheers

It's so easy to think these guys are assholes when we don't know them (I include myself in there because I know - maybe 2 dozen ballplayers and more than half of them are near retirement). I've thought some are real jerks and met them and was totally shocked. Also goes the other way.. some you think are real nice are total asses. Which is why for the most part I take the things I read and hear at face value. I don't believe most of what I hear.. and only believe half of what I see. ;)

Barry had a definite brain fart on this one. I don't doubt he can be an ass... but he's not all bad. That's kinda what I wanted to get across in telling the story.

Hey, if you substitute "30 mansions" with "dorm room" and "rap music" with "semi-obscure punk/folk/prog rock", well then you've got something close to my life.

IIRC.. he also gave him $20K after the 73 HR season. That's $35K he got from Bonds. And I'm sure Shef and Giambi were paying him...

What a f***ING PRICK! :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou

Remember that s*** he said about Clemens' contract saying how he wouldn't get a clause that wouldn't require him to go on some road trips because he wasn't white?

Some people. :headshake
