Neagle arrested for solicitation of prostitution

By Brian D. Crecente and Hector Gutierrez, Rocky Mountain News

December 3, 2004

Oft-injured Colorado Rockies pitcher Denny Neagle was arrested early Friday after police say he paid a prostitute $40 for oral sex on Colfax Avenue.

Neagle told Lakewood police that he was "being stupid," according to a police report.

Police started following Neagle about 1:30 a.m. Friday, after spotting him speeding across West Colfax Avenue on Ames Street near the Denver city line in a white Cadilliac Escalade. An officer followed the vehicle to West 14th Avenue where the officer pulled Neagle over.

According to the report, Neagle's eyes were watery and bloodshot, and he smelled of alcohol.

When Neagle reached for his wallet, the officer noticed that Neagle's pants belt was undone.

When asked why his pants were undone, Neagle told the officer he was just getting comfortable.

But the woman who was in the car with Neagle, Jill Russell, 40, told police that she had performed oral sex on Neagle for $40.

Neagle then admitted that he was in the area looking for sex, according to the police report.

Police ticketed Neagle for solicitation of prostitution, seized his $40 as evidence and explained his upcoming court date, to which Neagle responded: "OK."

Neagle and his Chicago-based agent, Barry Meister, were unavailable for comment Friday. Rockies officials said they planned to release a statement later tonight.

This isn't Neagle's first run-in with the law. In October 2003, Neagle was cited for drunken driving after his Hummer hit another vehicle near West Alameda Avenue and South Kipling Street. He later pleaded guilty to driving while impaired.

I'm sure this will blow over that whole steroids thingy.

I don't see how someone that rich couldn't just go to a bar, buy some horny girl some drinks, and voila.

You could take a chance and spend the $40 on drinks but why take any chances that there will not be a horny chick at the bar and just put your drunk ass behind the wheel, head down to some crummy neighborhood, and spend $40 on a sure thing?

Not sure, but I know James Worth always used a service because he said he didn't have to worry about a girl pressing charges on him or worry as much about unwanted pregnancies and scams, etc.

Why would a man with as much cash as Neagle have to pay for it? There must be a gold digger or two, that would have "done the necessary" for him without the fuss of having to kerb crawl. You're a sad man Neagle.

Why would a guy with his cash have to pay for it?

Think about that for a moment. He'd pay for it one way or another. Dinner, drinks, and gifts with some broad he isn't the least bit interested in or a fast, guaranteed direct exchange of cash for services. Dinner and drinks would cost him more. Plus this way he was able to get his picture taken by the police and everyone gets to talk about him

A better question is why a guy with his cash be messing with a $40 street whore, he should have a discreet i.e. Mayflower Madam, name in his wallet for just such errr emergencies, like wanting to be "comfortable". :lolhitting

That's true to a certain extent, but there must be women out there who would do it more out of hope than expectation. The thought that they MAY end up with a multi-millionaire would be enough for some I think. As long as the millionaire in question doesn't end up pussy-whipped, he'll do OK out of it. :D

I read on SportsTerminal the Rox terminated Neagle's contract.

Rockies terminate contract of LHP Neagle

DENVER (Ticker) - Denny Neagle's indiscretion has cost him his job.

The Colorado Rockies terminated Neagle's contract Monday, just days after the 36-year-old lefthander was arrested for soliciting a prostitute.

According to multiple reports, Neagle was speeding when pulled over by an officer in Lakewood, Colorado on Friday. The officer reported that the pitcher smelled of alcohol and had his pants undone.

A woman in the car, 40-year-old Jill Russell, told police she had performed oral sex on Neagle for $40. Neagle reportedly admitted to police that he was in the area looking for sex.

Neagle was slated to make $10 million in 2005. As part of the five-year, $51 million deal he signed in December 2000, the contract contained a $12.5 million team option for 2006 with a $9.5 million buyout.

"This decision is about an organization and the fans that support it," Rockies Chairman Charles Monfort said. "Denny's pattern of behavior has not been consistent with what our organization represents.

"The Colorado Rockies have and will continue to place strong emphasis on character and accountability."

Neagle missed all of last season with an injury. In 2003, he was 2-4 with a 7.90 ERA, making just seven starts in another injury-plagued campaign.

In 14 years with Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Cincinnati, the New York Yankees and Colorado, Neagle is 124-92 with a 4.24 ERA. He is just 19-23 in four years with the Rockies.

2 thoughts:

Why get a hooker and not a woman at a bar? As Charlie Sheen so eloquently put it when his name came up during the Heidi Fleisch scandal "I don't pay to GET a woman, I pay so that she goes away afterward".

Secondly, it only cost him $40.00 for the 'favor'. I think if he throws her an extra $100.00 she woulda said she was his girlfriend. I mean they weren't caught IN the act, right.

That decision was about $19,500,000. Who do they think they are trying to kid?
