JD Drew

I was touching on this in a different thread and thought that it would be a good topic to post..

The Braves did not offer Arbitration to JD Drew, because Boras is looking for a 5 yr 50 Million deal for him.. Well I am thinking that this might be perfect for us.. Drew is everything that this team needs..

Left Handed, Hits for Avg (.305), hits for power (31 HR's 98 RBI's .569 Slugging 28 Doubles 8 Triples), he gets on base (.436 OBP), he walks a lot, he plays good defense, and he can even steal a few bases..

His numbers would increase playing at the cell and he may even put up better numbers than Maggs, and 10 million per year is a lot less than what Maggs was wanting..

If we are going to make a big signing I think this is what we should do.. Drew IMO is the FA out there right now that would benefit our team the most.. We would finally get a real good LH bat to put in the middle of our order, and he would replace Maggs at a cheaper price..

And I know a lot of people are gonna say "Injury Prone" and what not, but he was healthy all year last year, and even before he still had played over 100 games the past 6 years..

I think he is finally fully healthy and for 10 Million a year at the production that he does, I think that would be a very quality signing for this team.. Especially with Atlanta not offering arbitration.. Wouldnt cost us anything..

1. SS Uribe

2. CF Rowand

3. RF Drew

4. DH Thomas

5. LF Lee

6. 1B Konerko

7. 3B Crede

8. C Davis

9. 2B Harris

Looks pretty solid to me

I would like JD Drew as long as he can stay healthy that is. Only problem is his damn agent Borass!!

Yeah but the thing is I dont think what Boras is asking for would be a problem.. I dont see why if we offered 5 yrs 50 Million like Boras is asking that there would be any problem or anything to stop him from negotiating with us

I am sure Boras will deal with the Sox, I just don't believe the Sox want to deal with him too much... even though they do have a couple of his clients on their team IIRC. I agree though Drew would be an excellent choice compared to what else has been suggested...ie Dye, Hidalgo...even though I would take a chance on Hidalgo is all else fails.

Drew is a great idea MoS.  We've all thought about him.  But, I think Dye and Hidalgo are realistic options for the Sox.

Don't get your hopes up for Drew.  Just don't see it happening.  Boras=Braves

Well from what I understand the Braves dont want to sign him for that much.. I think I heard that from someone, possibly qwerty

This Boras craze needs to stop though, anytime someone mentions a player everyone says "Boras, no chance in hell"

We have the same opportunity to sign him as every other team does.. Im not trying to say were gonna sign him, but I hope that our FO heavily considers it..

I know everything we talk about and propose on here has slim chances of happening.. but im just trying to think up possible signings for us, even though theres no way to tell what KW is thinking or who they have in mind really.. All we have is specualtion and this supposid "Radar" were flyin under..

Drew would be great for us, hopefully we at least show intrest if anything.. I know they know RF is a hole, and with Drew sittin there they should at least inquire

IF healthy, JD Drew is worth every penny.

Thats the thing... whats with all the "Ifs"

He was healthy all last year, no reason to assume hes gonna be not healthy come this next season..

I agree, he is worth every penny and I really hope that the Sox at least put some consideration into lookin into Drew

And there in lies the key.  If he is healthy...  He has played 140 games exactly once in his career.

Yup but this was his first year to be fully healthy.. although he has played in over 100 games the past 6 season...

145 this year, 100 season before, and 135 season before that

Hes healthy now, and weve seen a season with him at full health and he had a terrific season.. I dont see any reason why he wouldnt stay healthy..

You can't ignore the Boras factor. It's a big deal. Sorry.

I know all we have is hearsay and conjecture at this point, especially since Kenny loves flying under the radar, but I think its safe to say Kenny is out working for the Sox. Let's give him some time.

Yes, Drew would be a fantastic move.

Im not trying to just say theres no Borass problem, but some people make it seem like we have no shot at all with a Boras client when thats not true..

I know KW is out there working for us, thats why I hope they show intrest in Drew

"The offensive player may be a right fielder to replace J.D. Drew, a top free agent whose asking price (five years, $50 million or more) seems beyond what the Braves are prepared to spend."

from the atlanta journal constitution

Thanks for posting that, I knew I saw somewhere that the Braves didnt wanna spend that on him

JD Drew is not worth 5-year deal let alone $50 million, unless he can earn $10 mil a year in just 120 games or so, because that is how many games I feel he would give any team over the course of each season, outside of his final year.

I just have that feeling about him.

If they can backload the deal...they can always trade him midway through the contract. I say...if were are going the FA route for RF...go for Drew first. What the hell? I know it is, but it shouldn't be about the agent and the GM, it should be about the player and the team. Then go get a SP and RP in a trade. If possible.

Drew is a cripple. The most games he has ever played in a season was 145 and that was this year (his contract year of course). Before that he never even played over 140 games!!!! How could you even consider this piece of s***? Sure he has talent but who is going to replace his talend the other 40 games he doesn't play.

NO ON DREW!

Just remember that since Maggs and Drew are represented by Boras that it COULD be a problem to sign Drew instead. Boras always seems to take the highest offer since he has little soul, but I wouldn't be shocked if he played a little politics with Drew and future free agents like Uribe.

I like Drew a ton, but I do not feel he is worth $10 mill at all, not for 1 excellent full season.

Jose Guillen got like $3 mill per over a 2-year deal with the Angels after having an excellent year with Cincinatti and Oakland in 2003, so why should Drew get $7 mill more and 3 more years then Guillen? :huh

The most I think I would go with Drew is $8 mill...and some team, like quite possibly the Texas Rangers, will go higher then $8 mill, because Boras will get them to bite. Just the feeling I get.

As much as I like Drew, before I gave a 5 year contract I'd investigate the cheaper short term option of ........ (drumroll please) ....... Steve Finley !!!!

LOL. I know you are all shocked. But it makes a lot more sense. Two years of Finley at even $9 million per vs 5 years of Drew at the same money per. Then you've got Sweeney and Anderson ready to step into the line up. To me, acquiring Finley is a no brainer, even if you have to overpay him.
