AnthraxFan93
Because I understand one thing. Its entertainment. I have expectations in my family, at my workplace, at my home, etc. I don't have expectations of entertainment, other than to be entertained. Why would I want to do something in my freetime that pisses me off? It doesn't make any sense to me. :fthecubs Why do I want to waste my money on a overrated product, if I wanted that I would have been a Cub fan.. SuperSteve
Same old rant, different day... I'll never understand the expectations that some people have of the Sox. I don't get it. I could be happier with more guys added. But, I am excited with the team we have been putting together.

Hatchetman
And that's what I mean. Why so irrational when it comes to the Sox? For God's sake its not like the Sox have a $30 million payroll like Devil Rays. Its not like the Sox traded a World Series team like the Marlins. Its not like the Sox never resign anyone like the Pirates. Its not like the Sox are pocketing revenue sharing money like the Brewers. Its not like the Sox lost 120 games like the Tigers two years ago. Its not like the Sox are the Expos who have traded away some of the best players of our generation. Its not like the Sox are $300 million in debt like the Diamondbacks I could keep going, but you get the point. Yes the Sox aren't the Yankees. They don't have a metro area of 15 million people to draw fan to. They are the 2nd team in a two team town. The Sox do have middle of the road payroll and a middle of the road attendance. They aren't some joke, just because they didn't go out and spend a stupid amount of money on a pitcher who has been healthy for one year in the last 5. They also aren't the Angels who have a rich owner who is willing to lose $20-30 million a year. Eventually the Angels will end up in the same situation as the DBacks did. Its not like you walk into McDonalds and expect a gormet meal, why do you look at the Sox and get angry that they don't spend outside of their means? wait, in that post you compared us to the teams that have won 4 of the last 8 championships. we haven't won a playoff series in 85 years. I wouldn't care if we finished in last place for 25 years if it meant a championship. the brewers and expos will be under new ownership shortly and will certainly be better run. detroit has moved into our "league" of competitiveness. we're better than the D-Rays and Pirates, I'll give you that. royals too. i don't want to argue with you b/c we're both stuck in our views, but i can't let impressionable youths see your post and not hear the other side. EvilJester99
The amazing thing about some of these people is the Sox could get Randy Johnson and Carlos Beltran and they would still find something to b**** about.....

That's cool. I just am sick of people ripping on the Sox without having any sense of what is going on around them. There are much better organizations in baseball, but there are also much worse, which makes it hard for me to call the Sox a joke. You want the punchline to a real joke? Pittsburgh Pirates. See what I mean? A $70 million payroll is not a joke. Mark B, Freddy Garcia, Frank Thomas, etc are not jokes. Anyone who signed Todd Ritchie AFTER the Sox screwed up is a joke. Having to explain a $30 million payroll to your fans is a joke. Not finishing above .500 for 10 years is a joke. Anyways, you get the point. Al Lopez Ghost (old)
A $70 million payroll is not a joke. It's not a joke, but it's not enough to get you where you want to go. If God drops everything it might - MIGHT - get you a division. But it's not a coincidence that it takes 90 million to 120 million to make you a realistic playoff team, a team that could win a League or World Championship. This is our problem as Sox fans. We live and die and hope for our guys, but the money thing is that 90 million pound elephant in the corner, and it never goes away.

That's a load of crap Southsider, I know you love this team and wan't to see them win as much as anyone else on this board, so for you to play this "entertainment card is pretty much bologna. You didn't answer my question, why shouldn't we have big expectations for our team once in awhile, we didn't have them last season, we have more payroll flexibility this season, and the market is better this season, so why shouldn't we have big expectations. I'm not asking them to spend 100 million, but signing Dustin Hermanson? C'mon. Thats not the move we had anticipated, and to overpay for him makes it even worse. Note that, as a reliever, Hermanson was able to put up solid numbers. And, so what if this move wasn't 'expected'. Who gives a damn... AddisonStSox
The best thing about this thread has to be the fact that two minutes after it was posted Kenny just finished a first-class signing in the pen. Wait a minute...so, people get signed around December 8th? I could have swore we should have made at least 9 moves by now. Shove it.

AnthraxFan93
A $70 million payroll is not a joke. Your right, if you have players from your minor leagues helping the team out WE don't time to pay the piper, we need another 20-25 mil to be a world class ballclub. When 65mil can't get you a div title...something is wrong. cough cough Kenny Williams cough cough

CSF
This offseason is a failure unless Beltran, Pavano, Pedro, Renteria, & Randy are all in the fold. What are you waiting for Kenny! :fyou These threads become annoying after awhile. It's the 2nd day when any real deals have gone down. Some of you are acting like the damn cupboard is empty. :headshake
