Guest JimH
Maybe it was just the games I watched Yeah, right. Let's not let the overall facts get in the way of our daily dose of negativity.
Southside hitmen
Kenny Williams mentions in the chicago sports.com that Dustin will be the setup guy to shingo.. I love this move
AddisonStSox
Tell me he's a bullpen arm Kenny. Please tell me he's just a bullpen arm. Don't even think about a starting role. Not for a second...don't even think about thinking it.
GoodAsGould
wow 2 awesome setup guys and les hope a great closer in shingo... although i think he is the real deal.. good job KW
santo=dorf
Since Hermanson became a reliever: 27 IP, 22 H, 11 BB. 28K's, 4.33 ERA (if you don't count that meltdown on the last day of the season it would've been around 3.00,) a WHIP of 1.22. I only see 4 bad outings from him, but they were Koch-like bad. Stats
CaliSoxFan
I like this move. Watching Giants games this year, I thought he did decent in his relief appearances. He seems to have some issues when guys get on, but for the most part this is a good signing. If I am not mistaken he has a decent fastball, which would complement Shingo pretty well,if the report is true that he would be a setup man. Hell, if the sox go one winning steaks he can be used as a closer.
Chisoxfn
f***ing fantastic. This guy has a shot to close as well. Saved like 19 straight with the Giants after moving to the pen. and I'm pinning the thread.

GoodAsGould
yeah he gave up 4 runs twice and it looks like 2 runs twice since he was made a reliever but for the most part he looked solid and also it was his first time as a closer in a race for the playoffs so that might of put extra pressure on him too
KevHead0881
Do we get his sideburns too?
greasywheels121
Not too bad. Our bullpen was kind of brutal at times last year. It'll be good to have a couple solid arms in there.

Chisoxfn
God, I know many aren't going to get overly excited by this move. But this really fills an area of weakness giving the Sox a legit RH and LH setup man and moves Politte into a mid-relief role. Now I'm hoping Scho can come back as a reliever and I'll really start LOVING this bullpen. It would of been turned from a weakness into a strength. CSF
He's not coming in as the closer. He'll be more of a setup guy and is insurance for the closer's role in case Shingo falters.
SuperSteve
I am quite happy by this move.
Butter Parque
Terrible move!!! Dustin Hermanson? How in the hell is this guy gonna get paid over 2 million dollars a year. Maybe as a long reliever or sport starter, but nothing else, and that title isn't worth over 2 million a year, especially when your name is Dustin Hermanson. I swear if he's the closer over Shingo or someone else, KW can go f**k off.

Chisoxfn
Also want to note that Hermanson was not offered arbitration by the Giants. So their will be no compensation owed.
southsider2k5
Also want to note that Hermanson was not offered arbitration by the Giants. So their will be no compensation owed. Bonus. That means we aren't sacrificing any picks for him either, and we can continue to rebuild the system.
SuperSteve
Per Rotoworld: White Sox signed RHP Dustin Hermanson, who had been with the Giants, to a two-year contract. Hermanson was pretty clear that he didn't want to sign with a team unless he was guaranteed to be used as a closer or a starter. We wonder if that means he was promised Shingo Takatsu's job. We'll find out shortly enough. Hermanson had a 4.53 ERA in 2004 and that was considered one of his good years. He's not someone who should have gotten a multiyear deal. Hatchetman
on the radio KW said he'd be a setup man and close some games. he's not considering him as a starter but said that could change during the year should they need another starter. seems like a lot of dough (relatively) compared to the contract that Politte got last year. we need all the relievers we can get so i hope he isn't the only acquisition.
