beck72
Solid signing. Decent closer insurance in case Shingo goes down. Versatile, can go multiple innings, can start, ala Wilson Alvarez though has a better GB/ FB ratio than Alvarez. Should be a good set up man in the 7th, 8th inning. qwerty
This fills out the bullpen and rather nicly I might add. I believe at the end of the season he was the Giants bullpen and pitched 2-3 innings every day. Can someone please post his IP for the last two weeks of the season. The Giant pen was a disaster and he was relied on solely to bail it out. For God's sake this is a minor pickup and people b**** and moan like we picked up Rob Beck. The guy has ability and that is wht we need in the pen. He has a quality arm. I think this move is better than what the division favorite Tigers spent on Percival. Also for those that like to comapre us to the cub, they were looking to bring him in. The last month he only pitched 13 innings, and over the final two months when he was soley in the pen he never pitched more than 1.2 innings per outing. quade36
Just read on another forum, he was very well liked by the San Fran fans. a gutty, respected player. I am starting to like this signing even more. Our bullpen will be very good next year.
jackie hayes
The last month he only pitched 13 innings, and over the final two months when he was soley in the pen he never pitched more than 1.2 innings per outing. Someone mentioned his BS, and I noticed that too while checking up on this. Seems like a bit of a waste unless you're pitching everyday. Hopefully he'll get a few more innings under Ozzie. (Some might hope he gets fewer, I gather...)
danman31
I think this is a good move. They were saying they wanted an end of the pen guy. Solid hopefully.
Flash Tizzle
Good. Bullpen is assembled. Williams escapes my criticism for one evening. Next on the agenda: OF, SS, SP,
Molto
solid signing. nothing great, but it ads depth to the bullpen, which I feel that while it won't be dominating, it will be deeper than most, just because of the development I see happening of Adkins and Cotts. Takatasu, Hermanson, Marte, Politte, Adkins and Cotts is solid, especially if we fill out the rotation.
soxfan420
i love this move a solid arm in the bullpen now i have faith in it with shingo, marte, hermason, pollite, cotts and hopefully felix diaz. screw jon adkins i like adkins and he pitched better than cotts last year. santo=dorf
i like adkins and he pitched better than cotts last year. I agree with you. He fell apart once Ozzie started overusing him. And why did Ozzie over use him? Because he was doing a good job.
SoxFanForever
i like adkins and he pitched better than cotts last year. Try taking a look at their stats and comparing them if you take out Cotts' start and you will see that Adkins really wasn't better. Cotts gave up less hits, had more K's, a few more innings and was victimized by Mke Jacksons uncanny ability to automatically let inherited runners score. Adkins is better suited for the mid- to late-inning relief role, so he's going to perform better than Cotts in that role. if both are handled the right way and are in set roles, they will be solid. redandwhite
All of my Red Sox counterparts will probably bash me for saying this considering how horrible he was for the Red Sox, but I like the move. The money is definitly steep, but a bullpen with a right hander and a southpaw in Hermanson and Marte is definitly something to look forward for in front of Takatsu as Jason said. I wanted a reliever to solidy the bullpen, as did many other people. I like it.

redandwhite
Thanks for adding that knuckle. Are you dissapointed because he's not a big name?? Of course. He won't be happy until the White Sox sign Pavano and Beltran, and acquire Randy Johnson via trade. :rolly
AngelasDaddy0427
Saw this on the local news. As long as he stays in the pen this is a great move.

DBAHO
I seriously thought a few weeks ago, the Sox were really going to make a run at Hermanson considering they were never really going to go after Percival or Benitez, and that they wanted a guy who could close possibly if they needed him to, Hermanson was about the only other person left on the FA market who could do that. I think I recall he could have gotten as much as $7 million over 2 years from Cleveland, so money wise the Sox have done quite well, especially considering the fact most GM's have been rubber stamping big fat contracts to guys who hardly deserve it. Hermanson's numbers may not be all the great, and most people actually think SBC Park is a pitchers' park but I think this season it had some favourable splits for hitters, I may be wrong on that though. Now if Shingo can convince Daisuke Matsuzaka to sign wih us, I'll be a very happy man, but I doubt that'll be happening anytime soon. Xero
Thanks for adding that knuckle. Are you dissapointed because he's not a big name?? I'm sorry, 6-9 and 4.53 ERA won't cut it...
WHarris1
I'm sorry, 6-9 and 4.53 ERA won't cut it... Sweet, he had a record under .500 and an era over 4.5, I guess that automatically makes him suck ass. Lets ignore the fact that he converted 85% of this saves, and can fill just about any role needed on a pitching staff. Top that off with the fact he isn't being paid that much compared to what is flying around this offseason. Oh yeah, and he pitched in a pretty good hitters park. But other than that, I agree with you.

I think it will let Ozzie shorten the leash if the starter is having an iffy day. You can go Politte, Marte, Hermanson in just about any order (play the match ups) in the 6-7-8 to get to Shingo. Just think, veteran professional pitching all day long!
Gene Honda Civic
Daisuke Matsuzaka to sign wih us, I'll be a very happy man, but I doubt that'll be happening anytime soon. You were probably on holiday, but seibu took him off the market -- just a 1-year deal though. If he's healthy, he'll be in the states next year. hi8is
knucles, you dont understand that was his record, primarily as a starter he wont start for us his numbers in the pen are, 17 out of 20 saves converted.... finished 2-5 with a 4.33 ERA and picked up 17 saves in 20 opportunities. He held opponents to a .224 average in relief. if he hadnt had 4 very bad outtings, his era would have hovered at a sub 3 level. he will be a good RH setup man for the singto, and will be along the side of LH setup in marte
