beck72
It depends on whether the Yanks can move Brown along with Vazquez which is now unlikely for 2 reasons. The 2 teams Brown was interested in a trade too, Philly hav their rotation sewn up, and Atlanta could too if they resign Paul Byrd. Wright passed his physical so he's a Yank, and than there's Eric Milton as well. I forgot about Brown. No team will take him on [the yanks were trying to give him away], and he has a no trade clause. the Yanks may deal with us for RJ, yet it doesn't sound like they could work out a deal w/ AZ by themselves BTW--I do like the "wright failed his physical" report. sounds like the yanks wanted to void his contract, when they got Pavano. Texsox
This would be known as the miracle on 35th street! Cynic alert No use cutting anyone off until everything is finalized Remember all those championships we won with Tom Seaver? Another HoF pitcher spending his twilight years on the Sox. Atlanta is out of the Brown hunt, Schuerholz wanted no part of him. There are rumblings that he could go back to San Diego however which could make some sense, depending on how much the Yanks pay of Brown's contract. I'd be pretty happy as a Padre fan so far this off-season regardless.
beck72
I think this is more of a case to bring the Cardinals or Angels back into the picture. I think the Angels would have a good pkg to offer AZ, of young pitching and position players like Casey Kotchman. With the added payroll in Glaus, and Ortiz, they should get cheap guys who can play in 2005. Ana. has a lot of talented guys like that. Garland and Pk would help them more for 2005. But an ana. deal would help Az more for the future.

maggsmaggs
If you are the Sox you got to make this deal, having Grilli as a 5th starter with a Vasquez in the rotation is one thing, but Grilli with Johnson in the rotation is acceptable. Nah, neither one was a Chicagoan wanting to pitch back home. I'm learnin' y'all this. A Texan pitchin' for the Lone Star State is a powerful thang. The Big Unit is a stud, even at 41. I would kill to get him on this team, because he is the missing link to a WS trip IMO.

If it was simply adding him, I'm with you all the way.

I'd join you with that lung donation* But it always seems to come down to this kind of crap (purely made up) Buerhle, Konerko, and a prospect for Johnson. We can never seem to sign that over the top pick without giving up a piece that put us on the edge to begin with. I am beginning to believe we will need to really catch lightening in a bottle via our farm system. *but only to encourage and hold your hand while you were being wheeled into surgery
SoxFan562004
I think one of 3 scenarios happened 1. RJ was only going to go to the Yankees and in so many words was refusing a deal elsewhere. Now, that the Yankees balked at AZ's demands RJ still wants out of AZ and is opening his options. 2. The AZ GM really never asked RJ or his agents about trades other places and was trying to force a deal with the Yankees (Even the 3-way scenario) because NY was willing to give so much cash that AZ was basically going to only pick up very little in salary. 3. RJ still only wants to go to the Yankees and his agents are spreading rumors that he will go elsewhere to get the Yankees to give up more. It seems KW is being agressive, let's see if he can get something done

AngelasDaddy0427
Honestly I only want RJ is JR is willing to open up the payroll and pay for a consistant offense as well. I don't care who it is. I don't want Jason Grilli anywhere near this team. ...and god forbid RJ got hurt, then our rotation becomes: Buherle Garcia Contreas Diaz Grilli/Some other minor league after Grilli goes 0-10 to start the year... :puke RJ IS TOO BIG OF A DAMN GAMBLE WITH OUR PAYROLL. JR WILL NOT OPEN UP THE PAYROLL!
Soxfest
RJ will never pitch here, only pass through on a 3 way with evil empire.

AngelasDaddy0427
It's the same thing as...what if we keep Garland and he gets hurt? Yet who is more likely to get hurt... The 41 year old who had some knee problems just a few years ago... or the 24 year old who hasn't been injuried and has pitched close to 200 IP in the last 3 years... I don't know about starts... but if you look at IP over the last 3 years Johnson comes out ahead. RJ=619 2/3 IP JG=601 1/3 IP

RJ=619 2/3 IP JG=601 1/3 IP Alright, that works too. Last year RJ had mores starts than Garland as well. The RJ injury card is played far too often. He was the best pitcher in the NL last year, we haven't won a WS in god knows how long, you gotta take chances like this.

Really looking back through his career he has been under 200 IP twice in the last 15 years. 2003 when he was hurt, and 1994 when he still pitched 172 innings, which is enough to qualify for the ERA crown. Johnson has had one injury, in one year. That's it. Everything else is just speculation.
3E8
The Diamondbacks conducted a late Saturday night meeting with Randy Johnson's agents. Arizona seems to be focusing on keeping Johnson at the moment, but so far at least, its additions haven't swayed him. It's believed that the White Sox are making another run at the left-hander, perhaps using Carlos Lee instead of Paul Konerko. Although everyone assumes it's the case, Johnson has yet to come out and say he wouldn't accept a trade to Chicago. Dec. 12 - 5:06 am et I think the Diamondbacks are realizing that our package was clearly the best.
