The Sox are going to be a much more dynamic team, but at the same time they should have power between Crede, Uribe, Konerko, Thomas, Dye, and Rowand.

Power is still questionable with these players.

-Thomas may be unavailable for an extended period

-Crede and his uppercut swing. Unless you believe (from Walker) it's corrected.

-Will Konerko reform back to 2003's extended funk?

-Can we expect Uribe to remain consistent throughout the season?

-Has Rowand blossumed into a player capapble of hitting .280, 20HR's, 70 RBI's?

Let's just say our streak of 200 HR seasons will be in jeopardy. :D

And the two guys who were originally talked about as primary trade bait for Johnson or Vazquez are still on the team.

Konerko and Garland.

Interesting.

Hmmmm ...

Oh ... and I will not talk about which poster it was who said the Sox were interested in Scott Podsednik about two weeks ago ...

Jim, I specifically remember NOT jumping on ya

But I'm also one of the few people that thinks, certain conditions given (ie picking up Perez or a good starter and hopefully a catcher or middle infielder) that this is a good deal.

Fellas, don't be so quick in saying we have just dramaticly improved our pitching staff.

Until two hours ago you had no idea Vizcaino existed.  Be honest.

I bet a lot of people here knew about Vizcaino. Wasn't he the one that went to the Sox in the Rotoworld predictions article (Cotts-for-Vizcaino, or something like that)? Anyway, most people on this board at least noticed him then.

I'd say thats a decent shot. At the same time Paulie could still hit 40, Dye could do 30, Thomas (according to Herm is right on schedule) and could do 25-35, Arow could do more like 25, Uribe has 30 hr power.

I mean thats all a risk. I do think Crede will hit 20 if he gets the AB's. If his swing is fixed I think he hits 25-30. However his average may be horrible (if his swing isn't fixed).

Under no circumstance should KW trade Konerko now. Besides for being our most reliable offensive threat, it would be a massive public relations blow to lose Maggs, Carlos, and PK in one offseason.

Also, can we start a new thread that lists the latest Sox rumors in regards to the completion of the trade, and rumors about any new moves?

Unless they deal him with the plan to sign Delgado :D

Jason, yes, I do remember. :headbang

Also of note, as quickman and I just discussed on the phone:

The White Sox website uses the term "player to be named" vs. the official "player to be named later".

Player to be named later has a specific definition as Jason has pointed out.

Player to be named could very well be different.

We speculated it's because the Sox need to move somebody off the roster or there are procedural issues involved.

Again, wait and see is the watchword.

I watched Vizcaino pitch a ton of games against the Cubs last year. He has a solid fastball and a dynamite slider/splitter, but he struggles with leaving pitches over the plate to be hit a far way. However, he's a very solid reliever who I will be confident in when he comes in. The question I have now is why do we need Cliff P. in the pen? I hope we're not planning on Hermanson going into the starting rotation.

A) Speak for yourself, and B, even if that was the case, getting a 3.85 ERA from a pitcher who seems to be coming into his prime isnt to shabby.

Plus in between his one bad season he had a season with an ERA in the 2's.

Think of it this way.

7th/8th inning you got the option of Hermy/Marte/Vizcaino. Then you have Cotts and Politte before that and Shingo in the 9th. Thats some nice depth. Especially if Shingo pitches really well.

I was going to say... and how much have those 200 homers helped the Sox win divisions??

I'm not arguing it's importance.

Has everyone become so philosophical where "Let's just say our streak of 200 HR seasons will be in jeopardy" has some deep meaning?

I merely included the comment as an indication of our drop in power. Jokingly, at that.

I also have to think by Friday that the Sox have inked a pitcher to a deal. I don't see them waiting till the non-tender period unless Kenny has a very good idea that cuople guys he really wants are going to get non-tendered.

I'm still hoping they get Ginter cause that would give the Sox a lot of depth. If Crede struggles, bam, if Harris struggles (plus he can play vs lefties) and then you have the ability to get Pyrz and Perez.

You don't know how happy I'd be if the team got Ginter and then signed Odalis and Pyrz.

I love the trade because Podsednik should be fine in the AL and you know he's going to steal at least 40 bases. I LOVE the bullpen addtion and think it's now absolutely solid and just think, Adkins and Cotts are only going to get better and better.

I also want to know if anyone thinks KW's done dealing. I still would like them to give up Konerko and a prospect to SF for Pierzynski and Jerome Williams, then the offseason would get an A.

Imagine a team like this

Lineup: Podsednik- LF

Rowand- CF

Thomas- DH

Dye- RF

Crede- 3B

Pierzynski- C

Gload- 1B

Uribe- SS

Harris- 2B

Bench: Timo Perez

Alex Escobar

Wilson Valdez

Burke

Starting Rotation: Buehrle

Garcia

Contreras

Williams

Garland

Bullpen: Cotts

Adkins

Hermanson

Vizcaino

Politte

Marte

Takatsu

I don't know what you would do with Davis, the lineup is weak, but it's good defensively, with speed at the top and bottom of the lineup, and some good contact hitters. The rotation is solid and the best in the division and the bullpen is the strong point and should carry us to a division title.

I'll miss you Caballo, good luck in Milwaukee!!!

You scoff...

but let's see who's laughing when Dustin Hermanson is announced as the fifth starter. Then let's see who dramaticly improved our rotation.

Please, Please force me to eat some crow on this one Kenny. Patience is a virtue I suppose.

Pyrz is now more likely then ever to get non-tendered. The Giants signed Matheny to a 3 yr deal today and they didn't sign him to be the backup.

Konerko couldn't get us williams let alone pierzynski and williams. People seems to always forgot how good williams is at such a young age.
