quickman
I think that's a fair assumption. My guess is the White Sox won't be able to afford him though. agreed, they will try to get him on the cheap. won't get him.
Molto
you don't offer Clement more than $7 million a year, he isn't worth it, even though he made $6 mil this past season. The reason is simple, he has yet to win more than 15 games or lose less than 10 games. I'm a fan of his and realize he didn't get much support last year, but a 9-13 record and 180 innings isn't worth $8+ million a year. it all depends how much Clement wants to stay in Chicago. If he really wants to stay, I say the Sox should offer him a four-year deal at $24 million or so.
3E8
He was speaking about how flattered he was that the White Sox had interest in him and how he would love to stay in Chicago on Comcast a few weeks back.

qwerty
Agreed Mario. I think there will be another trade and it will bring in a starting pitcher. Who else do we really have that we can trade for a starter? I think konerko has to stay now unless kw gets blown away by an offer.
Soxfest
To have KW say they may keep money saved until June/July is crazy, with current team as is he may not have a job by then. KW really knows how to fire up the masses for the worse.
Molto
yeah, that is another way of looking at it. With $7 million they could afford to take on some salary. I just hope Konerko and/or Garland aren't involved. With the loss of Lee, our rotation has to be deep and our offense has to have a player like Konerko in it. While I think this team can hold up and be competitive as is, there is no point in waiting, especially with the all questions that already exist. A starter to complete this rotation is very important.

Interesting point. Anyone is tradeable, unless a guy is hurt or is a 10/5 guy, i.e. Frank Thomas. There are still tons of scenarios out there, complicated even more by the upcoming non tender deadline. Gobs of players will be available. Yes, they'd have to bring in guys to replace them, but lots of White Sox guys have value. We don't know who's available from other teams. Konerko is more valuable to the White Sox tonite than he was this morning, for sure. But if the deal is right, anyone can be traded.

We need to keep getting faster and better. Anyword on the third guy yet?

I have a feeling you're right. Konerko could be gone as well. Gload seems to be one of the new players KW is looking for. Faster, more defense, less power. Nobody knows but KW where this team is headed.

The Beast
Williams believes media's obsession with hot stove talk has impeded his ability to search for talent. Specifically said he'd be able to "sleep easier at night" if attention wasn't so intense. This guy'll never be able to sleep at night though. He's KW. So ... exactly how much do you really know about getting a grip on yourself? Never mind, I just got the mental visual, you know what I'm sayin'. Just got back with the dog in fact, it's freezing out there. Arizona is looking better and better by the day.

You're not going to find any quality starters among the non-tenders, maybe a platoon MIFer or a certain catcher from the Giants but that's about it. AddisonStSox
I have officialy adopted the position of advocating the overpaying of Matt Clement. They need to pull out all the stops to get him. He'd thrive on the Southside and would complete the best divison in the AL Central and one of the best in the entire American League. I was referring to finding a 1B if Konerko gets traded and a 1B doesn't come back in return. A starting pitcher will have to come via trade IMO, it's sticker shock right now. The Kris Benson thing sent everything out of whack.
fathom
He was the PTBNL in the Kolb deal. And isn't very good. Very high ERA last year, and coming off of a disappointing season. I think a lot of us got our hopes up about the PTBNL, but it's becoming obvious that it's likely to be nothing special.
