Good Job KW

Just because Pods hit 240 last year doesn't mean that's going to repeat itself.  Konerko hit under 240 in 2003, and look what he did last year.  And what if Hermanson gets hurt, or someone else in the bullpen and we have to put Adkins in a more substantial role than he can handle?  You can never have enough bullpen arms or enough legitimate basestealers.  KW will go out and get another starter, he didn't free up six million just to sit back and do nothing with it.  Get your panties out of a twist and lighten up.

and what if Pods gets hurt?..........just kidding. ;)

AMEN!  Though I may retract my amen if we don't sign a quality starting pitcher.

I know I'm in the minority here but I've been thrilled with KW's work as a GM over the last three years.  That doesn't mean that I think he's been perfect but it does mean I've generally liked all of his moves during that time period.

Before all you KW haters unleash your wave of attacks, the Ritchie deal was awful and those who know me, know that I was highly critical of that trade the day it was made.  He made an obviously rookie mistake in dealing with the Dodgers and aquiring the wrong guy.

But, in the last three years I've liked...

the Colon acquisition

the first Everett and Alomar deals (though they didn't work out, it didn't cost us much)

the Damaso Marte acquisition

the Freddy Garcia acquisition

the Contreras acquisition

not giving Maggs the farm last year in negotiations

and his last two amatuer drafts

We haven't won anything during this time but I think during this time you can't blame what he's done.  KW works under a management induced salary cap.  I think Jerry mistakenly forces a small market budget on this team but I don't know how that can be blamed on KW.

I agree with all your assessments except the Contreras trade. I'm afraid that he won't pan out to be worth 6 million a year to us. At the same time, with cost of free agent pitchers this off season he may turn out to be a bargain.

Killa...I totally agree

I'm not always mr. positive myself, but I love the fact that KW kept his word and changed the team. I've been begging for this change for a while and I truly believe KW is still gonna pick up a quality starter and a middle infielder (I would love Cora) or a Pierzinski type catcher...

We have to face the facts we are a middle market ballclub...we cant use the addition by addition policy the yankees and red sox use to improve their teams. This move gives us more than what we had previously...Financial leverage.

Fill the last few holes and then for the first time in a while we have a team that can hit, pitch, run, play defense and maybe even WIN!?!? Yea its a revolutionary thought but hopefully we made a step in the right direction

Not only does acquiring Podsednik free up about $7 million dollars, strengthen the defense up the middle and in the OF as a whole, and give the White Sox a legit lead-off hitter (for "Ozzieball") after not having one for years, but this deal will move Willie Harris to his rightful spot in the batting order..... as an 8 or 9 place hitter.

It is now imperative for KW to go out and get a quality starting pitcher with the money saved by trading C Lee away.

While I haven't been a fan of KW and some..... if not most..... of KW's deals, I cannot fault him ever for being a man of his word. He said going into the offseason that he was going to assemble a team more in line with Ozzie's hit-and-run philosophy. So far in the '04-'05 offseason, he's doing it.

Good job KW.

And let's not forget that Vizcaino strengthens the BP big-time over what we had going into '04.

Agreed 100% Now go get Clement.

We've had our runs in b/c you know I'm one of the bigger optimists around, but that's great to see you truly are a fan of this club. It's hard to see that somtimes...Good post. I'm confident that we'll get a quality SP soon.
