EvilJester99
also didn't pierzynski say that the sox should not have had the all-star game cause of that fan attacking gamboa? IIRC I believe it was Minky that said that
EvilJester99
Well after all those responses... I would think its safe to say it was Minky!! hehe

Gene Honda Civic
BTW, isn't Davis Garcia's personal catcher? He did most of the catching of Garcia, but Burke took over as Buehrle's personal catcher. Burke has caught Garcia on a few occasions though. If piersinski is gonna sign with the Sox, it mark the disappearence of Ben Davis. This would have to happen soon, the sox would have to non-tender Davis. Burke is not going anywhere, he'll catch buehrle every fifth day, and would fill in whenever Pierz needed a breather.
Ishmookie
Jerry isn't a free agent, otherwise I like that idea. the o's could non-tender him and theyre likely to.
BobDylan
He's the guy that you HATE to play against, but if he's on your team, you LOVE him. Tell that to the Giants with a straight face. AJ is a prick, I hope he doesn't land with another team.

ISF
Burke is good at what? He's the defensive equivalent of Rafael Palmeiro. Burke is AAA fodder. Sign AJ and we have actually upgraded at C from last year. Burke...

fathom
I'm sure you know him personally. I know someone that is very, very good friends with A.J., and he tells me how A.J. isn't as much of an ass as people make him out to be, but he's not exactly the nicest guy in the world. The story I heard was that he was real nice up until he made the majors, and then he changed into another person. However, my source told me that A.J. is still a solid guy though. ISF
Will Burke hit better? I could hit better than Davis. That's why he's a backup. Offense Defense. Somebody said Burke was good at throwing people out. I'd LOVE to see that argument backed up. It was an adventure just for him to catch the ball. I don't hate Burke, he is what he is. AAA fodder. Gene Honda Civic
some numbers -- SB% -- (I'm to lazy to go back a page to quote it) Burke was the personal catcher for Buehrle, that increased his number significantly. That being said, there is nothing I saw last season from Davis that indicated that he was a good defensive catcher. His handling of Cotts in that one game where he had 4 "wild pitches" was absolutely pitiful. Burke can't hang on to a ball on a play at the plate though -- it's not like either of these guys are anywhere near good defensively. I think, if you're looking at AJ, you have to ask yourself which player is a better fit for the team. Burke - Should hit for a higher average than Davis - cheaper than davis - poor defense - MB's personal catcher Davis - Prolonged slumps - more power - more expensive - poor defense It's clear, to me anyways, that should we sign AJ, Davis should be shown the door. I agree 100%. I don't expect great things out of burke but he is a little bit better in my mind and is gonna be nearly a million cheaper. It is a no brainer in my opinion. ISF
He threw out 42% last year. Your boy davis threw out 29%. My boy Davis, prior to last year, threw out 36% in 2001, 44% in 2002, and 35% in 2003. Burke? 0% Fielding Pct: Davis is around .995 for career. Burke? .987 I can live with Burke, but it doesn't mean I want to. Pierzynski is leaps and bounds better than both, and Davis is better than Burke. 103 mph screwball
So because he got ran over keep him instead of davis Yes. It's not fair to him. It's not his fault. But the Sox need a new attitude. I'm still a little pissed about how that whole thing went down. I blame Ozzie and MJ ect. But, I'd be willing to bet some of his teammates see Burke as a symbol of a failed season. I'd rather have Davis and AJ. Maybe I'm wrong and Burke will be the rally cry. Like remember the Alamo. For a difference of nearly one million dollars, which can help alot more than some people realize, i would go with burke.

Pierzynski is leaps and bounds better than both, and Davis is better than Burke. Pierz is widely regarded as a BAD defensive catcher -- He threw out a whopping 15% last season And Davis must have friend in the official scorer's box. Seriously in that one game where Cotts was credited with 4 WP, 1 flew to the backstop, but the other 3 were PB's no doubt. Fielding percentage? SoxAce
I would prefer neither but I like Davis' bat and potential. If Pierz doesn't sign I don't think it's the end of the world. Big Ben can surprise some people. Burke is just an awesome grinder.
